The Inconvenient Archives of Mr. Matthew Dowd

 

Matthew Dowd a month and a half ago:

Matthew Dowd back when he was ABC News' chief political analyst with the largest platform and most legitimizing job title he ever had his life, while the fate of American democracy hung in the balance, strongly urging Americans to reject Both Parties and piss their vote away voting "independent" because Disruuuuption!

The reason these Tweets and many, many more scattered over many, many posts on this blog are now being (slowly) converted by me to screenshots instead of embedded Tweets is that Matthew Dowd erased his entire inconvenient archive once he decided to A) run for office as a Democrat in Texas on what amounted to Hillary Clinton's campaign platform from 2016 and B) use his Bush administration contacts to scam a job at MSNBC.  

Because having evidence out there of him stating bluntly and repeatedly and with all the authority of ABC News' chief political analyst that the entire "duopoly" is hopelessly broken -- that there wasn't a fucking dime's worth of difference between D's and R's and the only possible solution is to smash the whole thing and start over -- doesn't comport with the new, on-air persona his is trying to manufacture.  

Evidence of that other manufactured on-air persona that Matthew Dowd presented to the world just a few years ago had to be eliminated which is why those Tweets no longer exist anywhere.  For awhile they lingered as plain text relics embedded in various posts on my blog (very likely nowhere else) but now thanks to Twitter's new super-delete protocols, you can no longer see them even as that.  Now they look like this.

I have worked in both parties. There is no improving them from within. Need to disrupt from without.

Mr. Dowd has erased them from the wider world and blocks anyone who mentions their existence or his utterly noxious behavior during that time.  And this gives me a weird kind of hope.

Because fact that Mr. Dowd and all of his cronies and fellow travelers in the media will literally erase the public evidence of their perfidy whenever possible and collectively agree to refuse to ever even hint at it on the air (and block anyone who does) tells me that they are genuinely terrified of the power the past has and, by extension, of anyone (even a punk like me) mentioning it.
