We ran into an honest to god maskhole at the grocery store yesterday.
First one so far, so hurray for us. Briana engaged with him, and he scooted off on his store provided mobility scooter.
Yeah, it's been so long since we had any actual legislating happen in the US congress that we've kind of forgotten what it looks like, but being a liberal, I remember. It ain't always pretty, even when it works.
That said, I'm afraid the Rude Pundit is correct about Ms, Sinema and she's just getting off on being important and consequential for once.
Which is all kinds of fucked up because first, she's a goddamn United States Senator, and second, she has gone through actual hard times so she fucking knows better.
And it looks like this iteration of Traitor Joe is gonna keep the reconciliation bill down to about two trillion dollars over the next decade, and that kind of sucks, but I'll not only take it, I'll fucking fight for it.
See, you never know when something like an expanded government program will save your skinny, white butt: the ACA was watered down by attrition and the legislative stylings of the previous iteration of Traitor Joe, but the Medicaid expansion in California allowed me to get cataract surgery in 2015 after I went fucking blind, and the last six years (and the rest of my life, however long that ends up being) are quite a bit different with 20/40 in one eye and 20/25 in the other than they otherwise would have been.
I'm already disabled, so I have something to compare blindness to, and as things stand I can get around OK, if slowly, but without my eyesight? Assistance was required to cross the goddamn street, so no, I couldn't really get around on my own.
Boy, Gavin Reptile sure has gone on a tear since winning the recall election; he gave Bruce's Beach back to the heirs of the family it was stolen from and signed a whole stack of police reform bills, which I hope will make things better here. Especially the one that decertifies officers convicted of misconduct and thus keeps them from just moving and getting hired by a different police force where they can keep up the abusive behavior.
A long time ago, the OPD and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office busted the Oakland Housing Authority Police and disbanded them as a police force for the kind of behavior that OPD would get into trouble for a few years later in the "Riders" case, and the OHA cops just went and joined other Bay Area forces. The SF Park police hired a lot of them. So a more permanent solution needs to be enacted, and perhaps this will be a step in that direction.
Thank you again for the podcast. The bears are on the move again, and the smoke from the wildfires has a haze in the air the makes the sunlight a weird color of orange, but we seem to have made it through the hottest part of the year without burning the fuck down right here, so that's nice.
