Newly Repurposed Bush-Off Machine Is Rolled Into Service

For those of you not yet thoroughly sick of my pedantry on the subject of "Why The Fuck Are Republican Monsters Repeatedly Let Off The Hook And Allowed To Regroup And Come Back Twice As Awful The Next Time" here is a little history.

After the collapse of the Bush Administration and the election of Barack Obama, the Republican base began weaseling out of being held accountable for all the heinous shit they had just unleashed on the country by trying to pass themselves off as "independents".  That was when Republican stooges like David Brooks invented a whole, ridiculous fairy-tale genre celebrating the sudden uptick in these self-identified "independents" all of whom, for some reason, seemed really excited about the Republican agenda and really, really pissed about the Kenyan Usurper.  

In response I wrote a thing. 

It's entitled "The 'Independent' Granfalloon" and here is how it ends:

Most newly minted “independents” seem to be little more than Republicans who are fleeing the scene of their crime, but at the same time still desperately want believe in the inerrant wisdom of Rush Limbaugh. They are completely incapable of facing the horrifying reality that they have gotten every single major political opinion and decision of their adult lives completely wrong, so instead they double-down on their hatred of women and/or gays and/or brown people and/or Liberals, and blame them for the miserable fuckpit their leaders and their policies have made of their lives and futures.

Like German soldiers after the fall of Berlin, they have stopped running away from the catastrophe they created only long enough to burn their uniforms.

But they fool no one.

Except, apparently, David Fucking Brooks.

Shortly after that, these ersatz independents began quickly morphing into the Fake Tea Party: same assholes, different costumes.   

In response, I wrote dozens and dozens of posts under the general heading of "There. Is. No. Tea. Party."  You can Google them if you'd like.  The most widely-circulated among them was written almost exactly a decade ago, in September of 2010.

It's entitled "Now, The Bush-Belly Sneetches".  It featured the Fabulous, Tea-Baggulous Bush-Off Machine, and here is how it ends:

They marched and they cheered and sang lots of brave tunes,

About how great Beck was, and how Lefties were Loons.

For one thing, of course, had remained just the same

The Left and their schemes were always to blame.

Because there is no need to be careful or watch what you say

When your past is as squashy as modeling clay.

But it turned out that didn't matter in the slightest how much we alarmist crackpot Liberals warned and waved and shouted, because the Powers That Be decided that none of the monsters who visited the Bush Administration Clusterfuck on this nation should have to pay any price whatsoever for what they had done.  

Instead, the architects of eight years of catastrophe all kept their jobs.  Some were even promoted.  And their enablers in the media all kept their jobs too, and many of them got promotions as well.  And marching under the banner of Birtherism and Death Panels and Obama the Tyrant, the clearly dangerous and unhinged Republican party was left free to regroup and come roaring back, even more nakedly racist and deranged than before, to inflict another eight years of Republican rage and paranoia and madness on this country by obstructing and sabotaging everything that Democrats were trying to do to dig us out from under the previous eight years of Republican failure and disaster.

And then they nominated and elected the King of the Birthers, which pretty much bring you up to date.

So as the wheels begin to come off the second, consecutive manifestly awful Republican administration --  an administration which was exists largely because the criminals who brought us the previous Republican fiasco were never held those responsible for their crimes -- imagine my complete lack or surprise that the "solution" our new BFFs at the Lincoln Project are offering their friends inside the Third Reich for Dummies an ouchless "exit ramp" because "How it's done won't matter after it's done." 

I expected this post-Nov 3rd but in last 24 hours hearing from some prominent R’s supporting Trump -and one top Trump staffer - asking how best to find the exit ramp. My answer is simple: never too early or too late to do the right thing. How it’s done won’t mater after it’s done
