The Wingnut With The Hungry Eyes

"There are vampires, and there are vampires." -- Fritz Leiber
In 1948, science fiction writer Fritz Leiber published a short story called "The Girl With The Hungry Eyes" about a fashion model who was also a psychic vampire.  The narrator of the story is unsure of how she came into existence, but speculates that she was conjured into being by the advertising industry harnessing the male craving for the Perfect Girl.  The narrator also believes that she is being kept alive by draining the life from individual victims, and by the constant attention she is getting from millions of people staring hungrily at her image om billboards and in magazines across the country.

Here is a read-aloud version of the story:

In the mediocre Night Gallery teleplay version, once the photographer who had spread The Girl's image everywhere burned all his negatives, The Girl herself was incinerated like a sheet of celluloid, and all over town the eyes on every billboard that featured her image burst into flames.

As you might imagine, that story came to mind when I read this:

No Half Measures

Good afternoon, Mr. Glass.

Just thinking about this story recently while doing vampire research. Thanks for the link.

Be seeing you.

A publicity hound has no other goal than publicity. Fame is an end in itself. The end in itself. However there is a great market for celebrity. Half of all people, Americans anyway, waste portions of their lives, and their spirits idolizing idols. Identifying with them and living vicariously through them.

In the "Blade" documentary.

The vampires kept humans to assist them during daylight hours. Trustees to help on the round up of the cattle.
They called them "Familiars".

I suggest, am suspicious that McConnell is a Familiar. He sees the Vampires gave Cheney the immortality bite. As Mitch nears his human expiration date.
what Quid Pro Quo he can offer to Transylvania Putin. He too can live forever without a heart..

"Trump cannot survive without media attention. He withers without it because he doesn't do any real work."

The profundity with which he declaims that is disproportionate to the truth of it. In other words, "Really, dude??! You're just noticing this NOW??!"

Mitch McConnell is, and has been, the worst human being in America for a long time now. But it was CNN and Fox who gave us McConnell's (and Putin's) ass puppet.

Thanks for checking in with us Mr. Atkins. Keep us posted for your next weighty utterance.

This cat Atkins is tromping on yr front lawn, DG. You're the one that's been taking down the Dowds, the Brooksies, the Kristols, the Morning Jo(k)es, the ugly shiny hood ornaments of the media machines; the ones who gave and give Trump a pass in the media because "the Dems, all of them, now, past, and forever do, and have done it, too." Never mind the Tuckers and the Hannitys, and the other outright slurpers. And because now thousands are dying, and the media finally decides it's got some grapes, they're just now noticing Trump throws toddler tantrums when they won't point the camera at him or his Klan rallies, or they actually question his venal argle-bargle.
Shocked, I tell you.

I dunno...I'm cranky this morning. Atkins ain't a bad guy. There's nothing wrong with his tweet, really. Just something incredibly OBVIOUS about it that pisses me off no end.
