Dear Democrats: Sometimes You Have to Clear the Corner

You just have to.

Because if you don't -- if you let some two-bit fascist con man wipe his ass with the Constitution and shame you -- you're finished as a political party.

Behold, a Tip Jar!

Not exactly on topic, but this should be encouraging in the same way as the CEO of Exxon finally admitting to global warming might be encouraging to an environmentalist.

You point is well taken of a Democratic Party being able to not just display the difference of who they are in comparing to GOP. But going Justice league and defending their position with strength with the ability to be forceful and combative when offering themselves in opposition. It is called competition. But is much more than that in serious regards to what the country is and will be.
The GOPers like (extremely are drawn to), Strong and very wrong". GW Bush, Cheney, Gingrich ET Al, ALL portrayed themselves as strong. Along with anger, resentment, hate, vile. It is a GOPer magnet.

They see Strong and feel obliged to Kneel and submit to being part of it.
All the wrong, fails and greed , Bluster, lies, unfulfilled promises do not matter. "He is strong (a tough guy) who they identify themselves (wanting ) to be.

Many of these MAGAs grew up on the John Wayne rugged individualist, The NAZI superior strength they used against the USA softy Democratic president. As if we lost the war.

It doesn't matter what you say, Lie or truth. It just needs to be loud, name calling, accusatory and repetitive with the anger tone of resentment and hate. A democratic president can take away many GOPer votes employing this.
Now, can this Dem candidate do this publicly to GOP and You know, pander to GOP while holding his real and true identity and character with Democratic voters?

I think this is a needle to be threaded. So Female candidates, "If your listening"!

I know you are much better by far than men overall, at threading needles.
Here is a needle to thread.
exiting Democratic voters and using the GoPer magnet to draw away the GOPer vote.

The first corner to be cleared was in November 2000. Alas, the Dems failed to do so and and thousands died later as a consequence (Sept 11, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, etc).

The next corner to clear was Jan 2007 when it became clear that those in charge acted criminally (torture), but "impeachment was off the table." Thus, implicit acceptance of past misbehavior was the new line in the sand.

It's hard to be surprised then when once they got a cop was on the corner, the criminals decamped across the street and continued to defy him. I see that as one of the strong legacies of our last President. A small window was opened 2009-2010 to right the past mistakes, hold accountable those deserving of punishment and re-establish the principle that laws are for all. Yet, there sat the GOP Gang, in plain view, taunting and obstructing, and our beat cop? He took it all without involving the protected citizens in fighting for their corner.

In 2016, those same citizens took a look at that cop's replacement and, in a pique that they had no better choice, took a pass and now there is no cop back on the corner. And the thugs, emboldened and assured they own the place, are well on their way to turning it into just another West Baltimore slum corner.

And the "protected" citizens? Half joined up with the criminal gang, intent on "getting theirs," and justifying their bad behavior on myths of greatness past or "that's just the way it is." The other half are locked inside their homes, angry and scared, waiting for the police to come and save them. But there is neither a good beat cop nor the Magnificent Seven coming to save them from the thugs. There is only the citizens themselves - and its very late in the game. RP

BTW - HLOTS was one of the best TV shows ever made! As true today as it was in the crazy 1990s!

we are reactive. we pay attention to the turf that is threatened, the turf that is in play...

well the turf is new-ish system of government by and for the people.

we need to stay focused, practical, angry.
