At some point after the corporate media sent journalism to the cornfield, the Nice Polite Republicans (NPR) of the Tote Bag Media figured out that the safest place for them spiritually and financially was far above in all, on a cloud of pure, transcendent Both Siderism -- floating so high above everything that it would no longer be possible to make out the basic facts of anything. They have cultivated an attitude of aloof, reflexive aversion to even the appearance of taking sides that is now so deeply rooted in the NPR culture that if you flip over any rock anywhere in that world you're like as not going to find a story that has been brutally amputated in some crucial way to fit within NPR's Procrustean "Both Sides Do It" Bed
So, for example, (h/t Alter Tweeter Irrevent Duo) today we find the NPR-distributed program, 1A, espousing what has what is indeed the Worst Take Ever On HR 1 Voting Rights (via Crooks & Liars(:
"Democrats in the House are trying to introduce HR1, which would expand and protect voting rights, however Republicans claim it would increase voter fraud, and we just saw a huge voter fraud scandal in North Carolina."
Pause.
Think happy thoughts.
Inhale.
Pause.
Exhale.
That huge voter fraud scandal in North Carolina?
It was committed by Republicans.
And yet this absolutely central fact is casually lopped off so a story about voter fraud will fit into the Both Siderist coffin which the reporter had already built.

Behold, a Tip Jar!

And, it was ELECTION fraud. Other than that "Both Sides" amirite??
Mitch McConnell would be the first one to tell you -- when people vore, Republicans lose.
Here's the deal with National PROPAGANDA Network, which used to be Nice Polite Republicans, imo:
NPR was NEVER EVER EVER EVER leftwing or liberal or whatever. It used to be somewhat more of a centrist place, where one could hear sometimes hear some reasonably in depth "reporting" about events and some of the time said "reporting" tended towards being sort of objective. And it wasn't all shouty and stuff, plus less Ads and not in your face. Those days are loooooooong gone. Buh-bye!
However, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting got more seriously involved during the Reagan years (I think) and then even more so during Bush the Dumber years, and, frankly, it's crap all the way down. Mara LIARson is from Fox, and there are other regulars who I think were trained (literally) at Fox. So that tells you pretty much all you need to know.
I stopped listening to NPR Fixed Noise Faux Nooz quite a few years ago because I was truly afraid my blood pressure would go through the roof. I avoid the Nooz like the plague. Albeit once in a while I catch snippets, and it's OFTEN some rightwing spooge bucket or another spouting off some Nazi bullshit. But presented as if this is a "reasonable" POV, plus, of course, there is NEVER EVER the other side presented. Just the rightwing side.
Some of the weekend programming is OK, but even that's gone downhill in my opinion. It's all of a piece to convince the latte liberals and Tote Bag set that they're being "informed" and getting, I dunno, some "centrist" POV. At least I've had friends spout some bullshit hype like that.
I stay as far away from any M$M as I can. Don't own a TV and mostly listen to Sirius XM radio for the music (no nooz please).
Everyone would be better served to ignore NPR as much as possible. Your health will be in less jeopardy if you do.
Fuckers.
HR1 is the groundwork for what HAS to be our first priority when we get the presidency and the senate back, and passing it now removes the necessity for crafting it and debating it when we finally have our eighteen months to clean up this mess, and hopefully get around to getting some of our policies enacted.
In other words, it is a forward-thinking piece of strategy that will go nowhere yet, but fail to burn up two months of our favorable congress, should we even get one, when its time rolls around.
As for the lies about it, and their coverage by the various supposedly fact-based news outlets, well, we have a lot more work to do when it's our turn again than just fixing what the wingnuts have broken, we also have to get to the damage done by the centrists and their enablers in the media.

One moment of epiphany occurred during a pledge week and listening to the hosts carp emphatically about how wonderful Diane Rehm was and deserved my $50/year contribution. I called in to say that I would double my donation if they stopped broadcasting her forum for representatives spanning the breadth of political perspectives from the Heritage Foundation to the AEI.
It seems that the voice of a white woman "call me Diane" who doesn't tolerate bad language is all one needs to move from volunteer secretary to national opinion moderator.
Hey, I've just learned that she now hosts a podcast, too!
I recently had a a conversation on Facebook about the election fraud here in NC. (It was a civil conversation)Someone, also from NC, referred to it as voter fraud. I corrected him, and he asked me to explain the difference, which I did. He told me he'd looked up definitions of both;what he found were definitions claiming voter fraud and election fraud are synonymous.
This is exactly what the Republicans want us to believe (which I'm sure y'all already know), and it appears to be working, even among liberals. It is monumentally dangerous.
At least the election board was steadfast in its refusal to seat Harris, and a whole bunch of people have been arrested and indicted for their part in the fraud. That right there is more than baby steps.
npr is not the enemy. the enemy is our need to validate ourselves and to fund and encourage that validation of self. top down blame is just stupid; like blaming 'el chapo' for drugs. they'll always be a supplier to service our addiction and our addiction is the myth that we are fine the way we are; left, right and center...
so yeah, both sides, like the many arms of the vedic gods...
Both Siderist shit doesn't fly here, son.
The audio on HR 1.
Is what I think Smart News, sounds like without ever listening.
At least from the advertisement...
