Shorter David Brooks

Never hold me anyone responsible.

For anything.

No, I'm not kidding.  From The New York Times:
You rigidify tribal identity every time you make a request that contains a hint of blame.
Spoken like a man who is hanging onto a job at which is objectively terrible and for which he is wildly overpaid while thousands of actual journalists are sacked all around him, who continues to actively reject taking any responsibility for any the horrid piffle he has written over the last 20 years --

-- and who is still smarting from being run through the wringer by divorce lawyers.

Behold, a Tip Jar!

I have been reading and loving your blog posts
for the last couple of weeks.
Indeed a voice crying out in the wilderness
but hopefully one that will be coming out of the cold
soon (and mixing metaphors).
Is there a way to send you a check rather than use a credit card?

In regards to DFB and club members.

What exactly is the Financial comfort level that requires to be achieved to be a Libertarian?
If born to required wealth to be Libertarian and in line for a royal sum of inheritance. What is the best private school (besides home school) that best instructs Libertarian ism.

Most importantly, name a Town, City, County, State, country, planet, solar system or galaxies where Libertarian ism has been practiced and exists?

NO, you cannot use Science Fiction books or movies or the imagination boundaries of your cranium.?

All the self-professed Libertarians I've known personally - maybe about 10 people I can think of off-hand - were basically born and raised mostly middle class; attended public school; but got into a good (but not Ivy League) university. All are white; all have "made it" financially. They HAVE worked hard to get where they are, but they have also enjoyed privileges that they don't want to admit to.

As our society has grown ever more selfish and self-absorbed, these people have followed the tribe and complain relentlessly about taxes and how awful they are for them.... while they live in million$+ homes, drive expensive new cars, go on expensive fancy vacations, send their kids to expensive private schools, belong to expensive country clubs, wear expensive clothes, etc.

You might notice a theme there. These people were raised in more humble circumstances, but in the heyday of "Greed is Good" 1980s and 1990s, they became richer and very entitled and believe that they deserve to live a very expensive life-style, and everyone who is not as wealthy are lazy, lousy, scum-sucking bottom dwellers with a hand out expecting something for nothing, who deserve their fates.

Because these people that I know live in liberalish CA, they don't want to be particularly associated with Republicans who aren't that "cool" out here. To be fair, they are socially liberal. They don't care about gay marriage and most support a woman's right to choose, and they're mostly not all that racist and sexist. They just don't want SHARE.

That's been my experience of Libertarians. In a way, sort of Republican light because of the social liberal attitude. I'm sure that they all read David Fucking Brooks and nod their heads sagely agreeing with him.
