Sully s a crabby old man who doesn't understand what is happening to this society. He is caught between the reality that he is a privileged white male but also homosexual. So he has decided to draw a fence around other gay rights (white) guys and say the war was won and everyone else stop complaining about the relentless religious intolerance on the right that has dominated US politics since well before the nation's founding (hello Puritans). Being a Scottish immigrant, he doesn't really get this, I think much less our history of racism and genocide. His essay is among a series of increasingly self-contradictory ones in which he is trying to justify his basic religious conservatism with social politics that don't line up with them.
Re: Dark Avenger. Sullivan has an Irish surname but was born, raised and educated in England and was a grandee. He has no sympathy for the Irish unless they are religious conservatives. All of my grandparents came from Irish peasant families in the early 20th century and became successful working class Democrats and nominal Catholics. There's a real difference.
I was about to say Andrew Sullivan is the stupidest smart man on the Internet. Unfortunately willfully ignorant is probably closer. I am sure that there is no shortage of other gay men that have attempted to set him "straight" (obligatory "see what I did there" citation). But anyone with an IQ above room temperature that uses the phrase "religious freedom" these days is just going "la la la, I can't hear you!".
Why are republicans so uncomfortably bias against - Native Americans use of Peyote in their religious rituals?
-Would Andrew allow for verified certified Aztecs to perform Human sacrifices?
Would he allow for sacrifices of Animals? Like in the Bible? Abraham was asked by his God to sacrifice a son? Many religions sacrifice Goats and other animals depending on the occasion?
What should be the criminal liability be for any republican to break the Reagan 11th Commandment?
Does he believe the conjuring and acceptance and obeying of Reagan's 11th Commandment is Blasphemy?
Is it a sin to worship and obey to masters as The Republican Party and several certain evangelical sects (which best fits at the moment)? \Then Obviously, Worshiping Trump's sin as to not forgive him but to hide the indulgence of their AVERICE.
Political punditry's most ubiquitous innumerate Tory clown has a serious case of amnesia regarding the recent history of civil rights. Basically he's saying "OK, LGBTQ folks, you totally won the war. Now it's time to settle down and let the world shamble along, satisfied that this issue is settled. You look like dirty hippie freaks by continuing to agitate for equality, and it makes the privileged white assholes I hang out with uncomfortable."
The right wing in this country has been telling people of color this exact same thing for decades since they supposedly "won the war" with the Civil Rights Act. Despite the continuing existence of rampant explicit racism and deeply embedded structural racism. Women, same thing. Questions of reproductive rights were supposedly settled decades ago. Now there's a political party with a frightening amount of power throughout the nation that worships at the altar of a white nationalist, racist, misogynistic piece of shit and has been busy for years trying to roll back as much of the hard-fought progress made on these fronts while asking incredulously why there are loud-mouthed activists fighting to preserve the advances made against this assault.
And Sullivan has lived through all of this, purportedly as an interested observer and even doing some activism himself with respect to gay rights. He's seen how long a slog it can be to achieve these victories, and should see how fragile the gains can be in the face of a political party, full of knuckle-dragging, reactionary, malevolent pieces of shit, trying to roll it all back. He should know, from experience, that even the victories already achieved must be zealously protected.
And yet, his contribution to the discourse is "hey, you won, now shut up and be quiet. Oh and by the way BOTH SIDES!!!!!"

Also like your new banner logo. Presumably refers to "bring on the meteor".
Andy is an Irish twit. He has too much of the bog still in him, despite his so-called “education”.

He gets it. Plenty. He just hopes the naive will buy how above it he claims to be.
Bingo! This deserves to be tweeted every time he opens his mouth.
..."indifference to religious freedom"...
WTF does that even mean? Just exactly what is he accusing us of? Or is it just another million-dollar toss-off line?
Oh, and fuck you, Andrew Sullivan. Fuck you.

Fuck that guy. What an oblivious fucking moron.
I much appreciate your words, Unknown.
