Andrew Sullivan Gets One Almost Right

Mr. Sullivan in NYMag:
We were entering, it seemed to me, the Caligula phase of the collapse of the American republic. Pretty soon Trump would be announcing that the new FBI director would be a horse.
Not the whole horse, Mr. Sullivan.
...
Combining the cartoonishly greasy fake piety of the lowest god bothering Elmer Gantry with the moral compass of a bus station pickpocket, Lieberman has become famous as the ambulatory embodiment the Beltway Both Siderist's Id,  So perhaps the wisest thing for Holy Joe to do at this point in his life would be to shut hell up and let those lobbying dollars he promised he would never take continue to pad out his very comfortable retirement (from Daily Kos in 2013):
Joe 'I'm not going to become a lobbyist' Lieberman becomes a lobbyist
But for the former leader and sole candidate of the "Connecticut for Lieberman" party, there is no sound quite so sweet as the sound of his own voice sermonizing about other people's moral failings, and so every few months he finds an excuse to open his prayer-hole and remind everyone why they hate him so very much.
 Just the ass.
GOP senators praise Lieberman for FBI director

A pair of top Republican senators on Thursday heaped praise on former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), President Trump's top choice to become FBI director.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, called Lieberman "outstanding."

"I hope he gets chosen. He has great respect and affection from both sides of the aisle,” McCain said after leaving a closed-door meeting with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

McCain also reportedly said “screw them” when discussing Democratic lawmakers who oppose or plan to oppose Lieberman.

Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), the No. 2 Senate Republican, reportedly called Lieberman "universally well-respected" and "probably the only person who can get 100 votes in the Senate."

Cornyn was on the president’s short list to replace ousted FBI Director James Comey, but took himself out of consideration earlier this week...
And it is also positively fucking adorable how the public narratives of every single fucking Very Serious Conservative who --
  • Spent their entire fucking career pimping an American Conservatism which absolutely never existed anywhere outside of their well-appointed bubble, and,

  • Spent their entire fucking career mocking and slandering the American Left as we desperately tried to warn them about what the American Right was really like out here in the Real World, and,

  • Are now genuinely shocked and horrified by the election of President Stupid.
-- are now all converging at the same point Liberals were twenty fucking years ago, without ever once mentioning that the Left was right about the Right all along.

Again, from Mr. Sullivan:
And then, on the little shuttle bus on the tarmac to the plane at Reagan National, I found myself sitting next to a recently retired pilot, who struck up a very pleasant conversation. He told me about a recent career change, retirement, his family, and his new neighbors who had left England to escape “the Muslims.” Okay, I thought. No need to make a scene. Just listen for a while. At one point, I gingerly indicated that I didn’t exactly share the views of his neighbors. “Oh I understand,” he said. “My wife is always telling me never to talk about religion or politics with strangers, but I can’t help myself.” No problem, I told him. I do it all the time too. Then he leaned in, pushed his wire eyeglasses up his nose, and looked straight into my eyes. “Let me tell you something,” he said. “This president will be the greatest president we have ever had in our entire history.”

These are, it seems to me, the two unstoppable narratives grinding our politics to a halt. The status quo in Washington — an unhinged, unfit, mentally disturbed narcissist as POTUS fast losing any faint credibility with even his own staffers — is utterly unsustainable...

And yet around 35 percent of the country still somehow views every single catastrophe Trump perpetrates on America and the world as either a roaring triumph or a huge middle finger to the elites, and therefore fine. For them, everything is sustainable. When Republicans can shrug off giving top-secret Israeli intelligence to the Russians, there is nothing they cannot shrug off. We are not talking about support for various policies here. We are talking about the kind of following a cult leader has. In poll after poll, around 80 percent of Republicans still approve of the job Trump is doing. Still.
...
Or as one disreputable Libtard said long ago...
So it turns out that virtually all of Mr. Sullivan's hard-won epiphanies amount to little more than the well-thumbed history and plainsong lore of our Fucked Up Modern Age as it has been long understood and passed down among those awful Liberals.
First they ignore you because you are too intolerant.
Then they laugh at you because you are too strident.
Then they fight you because you obviously hate Murrica.
Then they just rip your shit off, file down the serial numbers and resell it to the same people who wouldn't touch you because you were too intolerant, too strident and obviously hated Murrica.

Speaking only for myself, I'm on the fence as to whether this "sharing" of Israeli intelligence with the Russians is really as bad as it's made out to be. Call me crazy, but I feel that every single thing that happens with Trump has been amped up x 1,000,000 anymore. I'm not quite sure that everything he's done - taken separately - is as awful as it's made out to be by the Very Serious People in the M$M.

Disclaimer: I dislike Trump and didn't vote for him. Just cynical about how propaganda is used in this country by the M$M to create legends, memes and narratives. Caveat Emptor.

I commented on a another blog today that if Trump chooses the LIEbertoad as the next FBI Director (I mean: what possible "real" experience does this grifting shill have to head the FBI??? For starters, that's just a joke), then I have no sympathy for whatever befalls Trump. Trump might as well install Bibi Netanyahu as the FBI Director, but I suspect that's why LIEbertoad's name is at the top of the list. Genuflecting to Israel, which I heartily disagree with.

No surprises that Madder 'n a Hatter McCain is joyous over this pick, as he and the LIEbertoad take turns sticking their tongues up each others' shriveled nasty butts on a daily basis. Bleah. Two more disgusting specimans are hard to find, even in Versailles on the Potomac. Both FAR past their Sell-By dates, I must say.

And finally: what does it say about LIEbertoad that he's so heavily praised by such scumbags on the R-Team? I mean, someone who formerly ran as Veep for the D-Team, and these creeps are lavishing praise on him??

I know you dislike the terminolgy K'rupt Duopoly, but really in SOME cases, the shoe fits.

Agreed, RUK, but many attribute Gore's lack of a runaway victory over W to his choice of Traitor Joe.
