63 Million of My Neighbors Conspired to Take My Kid's Health Insurance Away

"We’re going to have great health care at a fraction of the cost, and you watch. It’ll happen.”

-- Il Douche, October 2016

No. That's not going to happen.

Here is what's going to happen.
Repealing Obamacare affects everyone

Obamacare touches just about everyone.

It's not just for the 20 million people who have health insurance through the individual Obamacare exchanges or Medicaid expansion.

Under Obamacare, senior citizens pay less for Medicare coverage and for their prescription drugs. Many Americans have received free contraceptives, mammograms, colonoscopies and cholesterol tests. And small business employees with older and sicker workers have not been slapped with super-high premiums.

"The ACA made changes in every part of the health care system," said Larry Levitt, senior vice president at the Kaiser Family Foundation, of the Affordable Care Act. "Virtually everyone has been touched by the ACA."

President-elect Donald Trump and congressional Republicans have vowed to swiftly repeal Obamacare. They plan to start with the provisions that affect spending and revenues -- including the federal subsidies, Medicaid expansion, taxes and mandates that all individuals obtain coverage and large employees provide it. That will require only a majority of votes in the Senate. But Republicans have promised to eventually undo all of President Obama's signature health reform law, save for the provision allowing children under age 26 to stay on their parents' plan...
Almost all of my 63 million neighbors who conspired to take my kid's health insurance away are the same neighbors who voted to re-elect Bush Administration monsters who lied us into the wrong war, bankrupted the country, pissed away our global reputation and crashed the economy.

The same neighbors who ran screaming into the streets eight years ago in unhinged racist horror at the sight the first black president.

A smaller group of my neighbors pissed away their votes or sat this election out because they thought protecting my kid's health insurance was less important than their dainty feelings.

I do not care what any of these neighbors have to say about anything anymore.

I will never forget what they have done, and I will never forgive them for it.

Hopping Mad had an ACA expert that said Republicans have already dropped immediate full repeal because everyone in DC knows the economic/social shit storm it would cause the how politically devastating it would for them.

Instead, what they plan to pass next year will be an series of incremental role backs that post-date 2018 and 2020 in anticipation of keeping (and increasing power). Therefore the media can say "see, not so bad!" and when it does go to shit in 2021, 50% of the nation will say "see, congress screwed up again!"

Added bonus, if Trump is held to one term, the shit storm will fall on the next Democratic President and therefore be their fault according a collaborating media and 50% of the nation.

You know as well as I do that most Trump voters are of limited intelligence and easily manipulated. Republican leadership has simply been better at this task than the Dems have been. There is no reason whatsoever for blaming these voters for the debacle.

Also, you should consider taking responsibility yourself for the likelihood that your children will lose their health insurance. Unlike many of the Trump voters that you seem to detest, I'm sure a man of your intelligence could (or at least could have) obtain(ed) a job that would provide health insurance for your family. You made the decision that it is better to do what you do so just accept the consequences and continue the good fight.

Steve, you need medical attention for your case of recto-cranial inversion.

Spoken like somebody who has not read one single word our host has written on the subject of his employment situation over the last few years.

DA, I think the word you're looking for is recto-fossal ambiguity (from the Latin fossa, "a hole in the ground").

Of course, the media will claim that Obama is maybe, mostly responsible. Because, both sides.

These people are deranged and dangerous...derangulous?

Insurance companies that have to cover retired employees will be a constituent on our side. They will have to pick up expenses formerly covered by Medicaid or Medicare. I think this will help us in the fight. My former employers will fight to keep from having to cover all those sick employees. Let's hope we can fight together and not fragment.

As a fellow freelance creative with years of exp. in my industry who also has difficulty finding steady work, esp. work with benefits like HC from time to time, nothing is more annoying and infuriating than to have someone like Stevie give advice to anyone listening that you only need to put more effort into finding that perfect job with benefits. It has been my experience that those who comment that way are either retired or have a job in a low demand industry whereby they can be a complete FU and not lose the gig. They also do not know that the competition for jobs these days consist of 5-7 exp. younger individuals for less pay.

Welcome to the blog, Steve. Like Neo Tuxedo and others have mentioned, read some past posts to get a better idea of what DG has gone through. No need for whitesplainin' around here.

All right,

I apologize for having raised this issue. If racism is involved as Rusty's last sentence suggests, it is outside the purview of my experiences.

It's easy to be condescending & dismissive of "those people" who are slackers just too lazy to get a full time good paying job with benefits. Just because you didn't feel like it. Just because you can't be bothered to get a job. So easy to stand in judgment & say get a job ya slob. Pull yourself up by yet bootstraps; be a MAN; stop expecting a free hand out. Yeah that's the ticket. Blame citizens for not finding non existent jobs bc it's all their fault that the 1% exported all the jobs overseas or brought in cheap labor either illegally or via zillions of unneeded H1b visas.

Commenters here are upset w Trump voters. I'm not thrilled with them either. But they voted out of desperation- albeit stupidly- because There. Aren't. Enough. Jobs.

Wake up. Smell the coffee. Stop buying the bullshit divide & conquer propaganda. Stop by again when you actually take off your arrogant blinders & realize what reality is like for a huge percentage of citizens in our third world country.

It sucks.
And it will affect me directly.

A lot of people discount the citizens who will be directly affected for the worse who CAN'T perform "regular" or "real" jobs due to disabilities because their conditions prevent them from doing so. I am one of those people. Disability benefits are a pittance and I am able to work certain jobs with relatively minor accommodations, but these jobs are not what one might consider "regular". If you are healthy and fortunate enough to find a job in your field local to you that provides healthcare benefits (or was the type that did prior to the ACA), congratulations--I am happy for you. But don't pat yourself on the back, some things are provided by circumstance and good fortune isn't an achievement.

Aurora S. said...

It should also be noted that a lot of these "non-regular" jobs that are not union-backed and often take serious advantage of their employees, such as the service industry, tend to be female-dominated. I don't think that's a coincidence. Unions are being eviscerated and "right to work" laws are being passed with increasing regularity; this disproportionately affects the "blue collar" workers (also not a coincidence), so traditional "real" jobs with benefits and workers' rights won't be safe if the GOP gets their way. And they will, because they have the "supermajority" blank check with a preference for marching in lockstep. If there's one thing they don't exhibit (besides empathy or basic human decency), its party infighting.
