Let's see: Lieberman and Nelson... Care must be taken against other such weasels when we try to turn '18 into '06, as I remember something about "blue dogs" back then.

Off topic, but I heartily recommend Jeff Beck's latest album "Loud Hailer" as spirit-fuel for sanity upkeep:

Driftglass and BlueGal,

Thanks for another thoughtful and enlightening pod cast.

But I find myself unable to avoid taking up my role as officious twit to comment on a remark that Driftglass made in passing on the fall of Neville Chamberlain after the German invasion of Norway which began on the 9th of April, 1940 (along with the German invasion and occupation of Denmark). Those events did lead to a confidence vote in Parliament about a month later (with debate beginning on May 7th) which Chamberlain won; however, because he was unable to get the Larour party to join him in an Unity Government, he decided to resign as Prime Minister, which he did on May 10th, 1940, recommending that the King send for Churchill to form a new government. May 10th was the day that the German offensive in the West began with the invasion of Holland and Belgium. (for details, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neville_Chamberlain#Downfall)

I was aware of some of the details surrounding the time of Chamberlain's resignation because, since the election I have been watching (or listening in the background) to the mini-series of Hermain Wouk's book The Winds of War on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocjEq6NcZOw&list=PL4yhjkkQgNDvkt-Hil7e-Koz8Oz3ccq1v) a reminder of the attitudes and of actions of historical Fascists, along with outlook and behavior that made their rise possible.

I hope that Olive had a successful visit to the vet on Friday and that your new year is starting well.
