Donald J. Trump: Bullshit in a China Shop

POTUS steps in.

From the New York Times:
Obama Says Republicans Should Withdraw Support for Trump

In his strongest denunciation of Donald J. Trump so far, President Obama on Tuesday said Mr. Trump was “unfit to serve as president” and urged the leaders of the Republican Party to withdraw their backing for his candidacy.

Mr. Obama said the Republican criticisms of Mr. Trump “ring hollow” if the party’s leaders continue to support his bid for the presidency this fall, particularly in light of Republican criticisms of Mr. Trump for his attacks on the Muslim parents of an American soldier, Humayun Khan, who died in Iraq.

“The question they have to ask themselves is: If you are repeatedly having to say in very strong terms that what he has said is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him?” Mr. Obama said at a news conference at the White House.
...
Then, ten seconds after that happened, Don the Con decided that, since he wasn't busy enough already what with "attacking fire marshals and the parents of fallen soldiers [and] kicking babies out of his rallies", and siding with workplace sexual harassers, today would be the very best day to take the leadership of his own party out for a ride in the pages of the Washington Post:
Trump refuses to support Paul Ryan, John McCain in upcoming Republican primaries
You know for the sake of argument, let us agree that one strategy for diverting attention away from, say, a car you wrapped around a tree might be nailing your dick to the deck of a garbage scow loaded with toxic waste, then setting it on fire and sailing it up the Hudson River.

Yep, that would do it!

But most post-disaster marketing experts would not recommend it.

To borrow from my betters, too late the GOP are figuring out that while Trump might have looked like a viable candidate from 30 feet away, from 10 feet away he looks like something made up to be seen from 30 feet away.

At this point, I'm blogging some of this stuff for the benefit of my future self. Because in my declining years the day may come where I will simply will not be able to believe that things got this surreally fucked up without the story ending with "...and then the little boy woke up and it was all a dream."

Whew! Thanks, Drift. I've always had the sneaking suspicion we're all in a simulated universe, and that sometimes a computer coder fresh out of school fucks things up. Can we have the backup run about now?

Ya gotta give Obama mad props on his timing. He boxes McCain, McConnell, Ryan, et al into a corner by saying they should retract their [admittedly milquetoast] endorsements of Drumpf and expand upon their [admittedly milquetoast] criticisms of Drumpf for insulting Gold Star families and everyone who isn't Drumpf. But by Obama suggesting that, now they can't do it. Cuz Obama suggested it, and they are anti-everything Obama says. So Obama boxes them into the corner and walks away and then Drumpf walks up and spits in their faces by not reciprocating their [admittedly milquetoast] endorsements, but instead saying "I'm not there yet".

Well played, Mr. President. Well played. Alley-oop. That was a thing of beauty to watch.

And not a peep out of HRC today. This is good stuff.

Could it be that with BHO still at the top that the Dems are finally learning how to play this game? Dog, I hope so.....

I think a lot of us do what we do mainly for there to be a record somewhere to prove that "no one could have known that that would happen" is inevitably a lie.

If you've read much about the 1929 crash, you know that "everyone" agrees that no one could have predicted it in advance, even though many people did predict it and laid out exactly what was about to happen. It didn't suit the Republicans, either while they were creating the crash, or afterwards, to have people know that, so they've shouted it down.

We both lived through the Iraq war buildup. I remember watching Colin Powell deliver his speech to the United Nations, complete with cartoon biological warfare trucks, and aerial photos of warehouses that showed absolutely nothing, and thinking as he spoke that it was all a pack of lies. But once again, they made sure that the press parroted their line that nobody could have known.

This is just the way the right works, from Hitler's staged sham Polish attacks on German troops, to Trump's endless falsehoods. At least this time, thanks to the internet, there will be a record of what people really knew at the time.

I hope so anyway, because it sure seems that the kind of people who support Trump are never going to develop a sudden respect for reality.
