Fundraising week continues with the realization beginning to dawn on the bull-headed, fact-resistant base of the Republican Party -- all those junior Cliven Bundys who believe as an article of Conservative faith that any inconvenient rules out there in the world are for other people -- that the while their collective ignorant rage has brought them within shouting distance of the Trumptopia of their dreams...
...they must first pass through the Hot Gates of two, different convention rules committees: small groups of party regulars who will have it within their power to cook up a binding set of rules that can tilt the future of the party in any direction they choose.
So that should be interesting.
But before that particular Battle of Derpopylae is even joined we can all look forward to several months of the Republican party establishment trying to replicate their "Blessed are the Cheesemakers" Wisconsin Stop Trump strategy in the remaining Republican primary states.
And what is that Cheesemaker Strategy?
To somehow hold every remaining primary in the shadow of a Koch Industries seat of power, where the Republican governor, the Republican state legislature and important office-holders, the Republican congressional delegation and the integrated resources of the state's media and Hate Radio outlets all agree to coordinate their efforts and spend an enormous amount of time, money and political capital to get out the vote for someone they hate only slightly less than Donald J. Trump.
In other words, what Digby said...
Donald Trump’s “days of rage”: As the GOP primary reaches its tipping point, Trump prepares for all-out warTed Cruz won big last night, dramatically increasing chances of a brokered convention. This is about to get ugly...If last night’s reaction by Trump to this possibility is any indication, he’s hunkering down for an epic battle. He gave no speech or “press conference” as he has done in the past. Instead his campaign issued a statement:Donald J. Trump withstood the onslaught of the establishment yet again, Lyin’ Ted Cruz had the Governor of Wisconsin, many conservative talk radio hosts, and the entire party apparatus behind him. Not only was he propelled by the anti-Trump Super PAC’s spending countless millions of dollars on false advertising against Mr. Trump, but he was coordinating with his own Super PAC’s (which is illegal) who totally control him. Ted Cruz is worse than a puppet — he is a Trojan horse, being used by the party bosses attempting to steal the nomination from Mr. Trump. We have total confidence that Mr. Trump will go on to win in New York, where he holds a substantial lead in all the polls, and beyond. Mr. Trump is the only candidate who can secure the delegates needed to win the Republican nomination and ultimately defeat Hillary Clinton, or whomever is the Democratic nominee, in order to Make American Great Again.Basically, Trump accused Cruz of stealing the Wisconsin primary with the illegal help of his Super PAC and the GOP establishment. It is tantamount to a declaration of war.The Trojan Horse metaphor isn’t really on point, but the idea that certain rich donors and elected officials in the GOP are supporting Cruz for their own purposes is correct. They simply want him to block Trump so they can install a candidate more to their liking. Mitt Romney has been very upfront about that. It’s just that until recently Trump didn’t understand how the convention worked or that part of the game is working the delegates at state conventions. (He was reportedly fit to be tied when he found out and blamed his staff for failing him.)...

Good post and most likely a pretty accurate summation of what's what. I agree that the analogy of the Cruzer as a Trojan Horse is inaccurate, but there was clearly a full court press from some of the other billionaires to back Cruz to the limit. Their strategy worked.
We've seen the posts (from someone or other; forget who now) claiming, as some suspected, that Trump mainly only entered the race as a sort of lark and to shake things up. That is unverified but possibly true. If so, clearly somewhere along the line, Trump's gargantuan ego took control - quelle surprise - and he figured he could fool the rubes enough to just cake-walk to victory.
Well us dirty f*cking hippies didn't need DFBs to tell us what an idiot, know-nothing legacy silver spoon dummy Trump is. Even douchebag W at least came from a politicial crime syndicate that gave him lessons from day 1 about how one behaves (mostly how one chooses those running you behind the scenes) to be in power. Trump is just an entitled idiot, who's managed to make things work just enough to stay ahead of the game after his numerous bankruptcies.
But like most business types of his ilk, he's surrounded himself with toadying yes-people, and if something goes wrong, Trump just blames one his minions and fires them. No lessons learned, blah blah...
Now he's up against some really really big players, along with some powerful deep state types, and the rules of the game will be brought to bear with full force. Trump's finally waking up to the fact that he really isn't All That and a Bag of Chips.
My Q: will his rabble show up in Cleveland armed to the teeth?
I don't want a blood bath - not at all, never, but... these dittoheads are gonna be really pissed off when their bright shiny lord and master gets the dump. Just saying...

Even Obama said yesterday that sure, the stuff Trump says is crazy, and other world leaders are starting to give him a hard time over it, but really, the stuff Cruz says is just as bad.
And off topic, but hilarious: GMU is re-renaming their law school so as to avoid calling attention to what an asshole Scalia was...

Living on the east side of Cleveland, I can tell you that other than a big parking lot and slivers of lake front parkland and an old Nike Missile base to the east, Edgewater Park to the west, there is not anywhere near enough space for conceal and carry camping. Is the rumor true that Roger Stone wants 100,000 trumptoids to visit days of rage on the fair city?
Hair Duce's hordes also will encounter--little known fact!--the actuality that Cleveland is very deep blue.
I'm hoping to encounter GOP dunderheads and their funny hats way east in liberal bastion Cleveland Heights, known for its fine restaurants and boho neighborhoods.
It's on. Gotterdammurung, baby! I think Herr Donald is going to burn down the house, no matter what the convention result is. And Creepy Ted? He'll cause as much damage as his passive-aggressive personality will allow. That will be plenty.
I'm well stocked with popcorn and personal preference of beverage. Release the Kraken!
I'd really like to see Cruz get used to create a brokered convention only to the have the party oligarchs push Romney onto the stage....that night Democratic primary winner could order their oval office stationary supply for the next 8 years.
I also seriously doubt Herr Trump's Brownshirts will do anything other than what white male conservatives have done since 1968 after threating to rain hell on our heads should we deny them their birth right...go back home, turn up Rush, pre-order Bill O'Rielly's next book, and talk about all the stuff they'll do when "It" happens. Like the Bundy clan...they are all paper tigers angling for a reality show.
"Days of rage"? They sound like a bunch of hippies back in 1968.
Thank you for "Battle of Derpopylae!"
When this old world starts getting me down ,
And Republican get to be too much for me to face,
I grab a bottle and read me some Driftglass..
( When you leave it open to finish the intro, we fill it in).
“.they must first pass through the Hot Gates of two, different convention rules committees: small groups of party regulars who will have it within their power to cook up a binding set of rules that can tilt the future of the party in any direction they choose. So that should be interesting. “
Note; The GOP have been immune for quite some time of laws pertaining to election suppression. The experience gained from all the practice is now expert. And yes, they will block voting on their own (see Arizona GOP primary 2016).
As for Digby stating "it is going to get ugly" Well what have I been witness to already. Get Violent? More so?
I predict before the California GOP primary, Trump and Cruz will be arguing How tightly closed their wives keep the back doors at home.
It will be religiousocity vs White Supremacy.
This buffoonery that Trump or Cruz for that matter will destroy the country? I
WE are speaking of the same GOP that voted bush/cheney twice.!
I agree, The NON Trump voter despises Cruz 2% less but the Trump voter is fit to provide Cruz a tour of Al Capone's meat plant. Specifically the meat grinding into hamburger Department.
They can hate Cruz slightly less with the millions spent and exhausted manpower and media to dangle shiny objects to hold their attention. But dementia and ADD cannot be controlled long term by shiny things.
Trump is about to be Al Gore'd by a political party he paid a fee to enter to run. A party that accepted him and his money into the GOP club.
Wisconsin's GOP primary with GOv. Walker machine, their media control, voting suppression. Reminds me of the Koch Bros. influence on the entire state. Because Kansas was not enough for the Kochs.
