Bill Kristol Cuts and Runs From Yet Another Conservative Disaster

Bill Kristol has long been equally famous for being hideously wrong about everything, and for walking away from the carnage he creates and into one high-profile, paid media gig after another.

And so...
Bill Kristol would back third party over Trump

Bill Kristol, the conservative pundit and editor of The Weekly Standard, said Tuesday that he would vote for a third-party candidate if Donald Trump is the Republican presidential nominee.

“I doubt I’d support Donald,” he said in an email, according to CNN Money. “I doubt I’d support the Democrat [nominee].

“I think I’d support getting someone good on the ballot as a third party candidate,” he added. Kristol’s admission comes as Trump leads the race for next year’s GOP presidential coronation across multiple national polls. Trump ranks first out of 16 Republican White House hopefuls with 29.8 percent, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of samplings.

Kristol revealed on Tuesday that he believes former Vice President Dick Cheney and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) are a much more attractive option for voters in 2016.

“[It] would be an excellent independent ticket,” he said of that pairing.

Kristol is a vocal critic of Trump and argues the outspoken billionaire could not defeat the Democratic presidential front-runner in a general election next year.

Trump responded by mocking Kristol’s publication in a tweet earlier this summer.

“Bill, your small and slightly failing magazine will be a giant success when you finally back Trump,” the real estate tycoon wrote on July 23. “Country will soar!”

...
One of these days some enterprising journalist is going to steal Jonathan Greenberger's lunch money and refuse to give it back until he coughs up the unspeakably obscene details of the bargain which put Bill Kristol back on teevee as a paid ABC news contributor.

Until then, the brave baristas who serve Young Mr. Greenberger coffee will just have to continue whizzing in his cup and telling him that it's the same, rare Civet blend that Rupert Murdoch drinks.

Good afternoon, Mr. Glass.

"Kristol revealed on Tuesday that he believes former Vice President Dick Cheney and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) are a much more attractive option for voters in 2016."

I'm wondering which word in Often-Wrong Soong's sentence is supposed to have quotes around it. "Believes?" "Attractive?" "Voters?"

Be seeing you.

Cheney as third party nominee? Bloody Bill WRONG Kristol is really outdoing himself with the idiocy with that one. Bravo, Bloody Bill. You can still surprise.

Cheney would be lucky to get three votes. His own, Bloody Bill's, and his equally deranged daughter's.

The Cheney/Cotton campaign would, missing the irony, use the punk band Fear's "Let's Have A War" at their rallies. The band, seeing the irony, would probably let them.

Wow, just wow. I can't even on this one. It's Iran monomania and war to the 100th power. How anybody, even Bloody Bill Kristol, could publicly advocate in favor of Cheney for anything other than a defendant's seat in a war crimes and conspiracy-to-torture trial is mind blowing. Cotton, that crass neocon-fed calf from Arkansas and author of the unconstitutional (and criminal) Senate "letter to Iran's leaders," is equally beyond the pale.

And through it all this rictus-smiling sonofabitch keeps his perch on top of the Village-media dung heap. It's like John Birch is being taken seriously.

As Charlie Pierce says:

Blow me, you monstrous, bloodthirsty fraud, you silly, stupid chickenhawk motherfker who plays army man with the children of people who are so much better than you are, and who would feed innocent civilians in lands you will never visit into your own personal meatgrinder to service your semi-annual martial erection. You and the rest of your cowardly cohort helped prepare the ground for the worst geopolitical mistake the country has made in 30 years. You fought the battle of the Green Rooms and the think tanks while other people's sons and daughters died for your fantasy of how the world would work if you really were the pimply, adolescent Zeus you see when you look in the mirror every morning. The country does not need you lectures any more. The country does not need your counsel. The country does not need your advice. And, as sure as human beings have become dead because of your lectures, and counsel, and advice, human beings about whom you otherwise care nothing, the country does not need your hectoring that it has become insufficiently bellicose to fulfill your newest, blood-drenched fantasies.

My worry is that Trump was merely the first shot in the war against the American voter.

If the super-rich's money is spent well, they'll be able to dominate the "news" until election day with fake fights between fake candidates, which will totally alienate most of the knowledgable electorate.

Then Tom, Dick and Jebbie can be trotted across the stage as "reasonable" choices that will hush the furor.

And no one will be really surprised.

Or has organized to get rid of the Diebold-manipulated voting machines.

And from the look on Hillary's face lately, I think she finally sees her dreams of being the shoe-in Dim candidate dying on the vine.

And the country flinches, horrified like in the wake of 9/11.

Cheney and Cotton. What a third party option that would be: a war criminal and a traitor. Bill has outdone himself in wrongness.

If Kristol genuinely believes that Dick Cheney is a viable/attractive candidate for the Presidency in 2016, why didn't he say so in 2008, or 2012? Or did he, and was he just unbelievably wrong-headed about it then as well?

Also, Kristol seems to confuse his personal viewpoint for actual facts. The polling on "Cheney as President" would likely be ranked somewhere below "catching Ebola" on the popularity scale.

If Trump is the republican nominee, I bet my life savings that Kristol will vote for Trump. And he'll almost certainly praise him to the skies for the last month of the campaign.

@ Red Hand
I'd actually pay money to be able to watch George Stuffinupyurass' face while Charles Pierce said this on "This Weak". Alas, I think that the Media Whore Love Train will not stop be stopping for Mr.Pierce any time soon. He had me at "Blow me, you monstrous blood thirsty fraud".

About my Senator Neidermeyer, er, Cotton:

We pale-skinned hobbitoids of the Arkanshire used to show an ornery, truly independent streak, but enough of my people have been turned into Reptilian pod people now to make my state reliably Reptilian.

To paraphrase John Brummett, a political columnist of the Arkanshire, Arkansas has become East Oklahoma.

Lessee, where'd I put that barf bag... :P
