From Dr. Krugman:
Style, Substance, and The DonaldAUGUST 5, 2015 12:28 PMJust about the entire political commentariat has been caught completely flatfooted by Donald Trump’s durable front-runner status; he was supposed to collapse after being nasty to St. John McCain, but nothing of the sort happened...
One correction, which Good Doctor K already knows full well: Just about the entire political commentariat has been caught completely flatfooted by Donald Trump’s durable front-runner status...except the Dirty Hippies.
Once again the only people who have been completely unsurprised by the most recent, yawping, orangutan-coiffed manifestation of the plain and terrible truth that the GOP is a cesspit of bigots, lunatics and demagogues (because the leaders of the party rigged it that way) are the same people our elite political commentariat will not let within a mile of a Serious Media microphone, camera or keyboard.

Grifters like Trump can always find an audience. All sizzle, no steak is the American Way. Curious (not really) that the mark always seems to be the gooper masses.
You remain highly adroit in being accurate about the "pig people."
A while back you & Blu Gal mentioned the Salt Lake Tribune and, I think, that you were under the impression that the Tribune would be conservative. It is more middle of the road on news and the opinion pages appear to lean left a bit, though they allow a Koch addict to post an op-ed on occasion. When that happens the Koch addict is very quickly outed by a very intelligent & robust comments section.
I think that you would be very pleased & amused to see the Pat Bagley cartoons, give them a look on a regular basis, you will not be disappointed, guaranteed.

You're right, of course, that the DFHs saw the Trumpgasm coming and understood why it is happening before anyone else and understand why smearing John McCain did not hurt Trump with his supporters (and probably strengthened him with some, who still can't forgive him for losing to the Kenyan Usurper).
Krugman isn't wrong to exclude the DFHs from his post, though, in the sense that the DFHs are not part of the "political commentariat" he is referring to in any meaningful sense.
"yawping, orangutan-coiffed manifestation of the plain and terrible truth that the GOP is a cesspit of bigots, lunatics and demagogues..."
Now that is some descriptive writing!
I live in NYC.
Will nobody call Trump on his bullshit claims of being a successful businessman, negotiator, and real estate magnate?
What Trump has always been (and his father Fred before him) is a political fixer. Every dime of his and Fred's "success" was made with government tax breaks, subsidies and grants from politicians they "supported".
He and Fred came out of the old Brooklyn political machine which has always had a rank reputation.
Trump just carried the modus operandi over to Manhattan with political donations and golden handshakes to any politician, Democrat or Republican, who was positioned to help him.
He's a bigger grifter and fraud than Charles Ponzi ever was.

Trump isn't the only failure. Leave it to a Brit to call the pig people out for the failures they are:

Do not remember where I got this link. It may have been from a commenter here. Needs to be broadcast far and wide.
