That #MrRobot Song You Were Wondering About

With tonight's episode, Mr. Robot is now the natural successor of Breaking Bad.

No kidding.  It's breathtaking.

Some Velvet Morning - Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood:
Some velvet mornin' when I'm straight
I'm gonna open up your gate
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
And how she gave me life
And how she made it end
Some velvet mornin' when I'm straight

Flowers growing on a hill, dragonflies and daffodils
Learn from us very much, look at us but do not touch
Phaedra is my name

Some velvet mornin' when I'm straight
I'm gonna open up your gate
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
And how she gave me life
And how she made it end
Some velvet mornin' when I'm straight

Flowers are the things we know, secrets are the things we grow
Learn from us very much, look at us but do not touch
Phaedra is my name

Some velvet mornin' when I'm straight
Flowers growing on a hill
I'm gonna open up your gate
dragonflies and daffodils
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
Learn from us very much
And how she gave me life
look at us but do not touch

And how she made it end
Well Eliot does get straight.
And does open up a gate.
And a buncha other things happen too.
Oh my, oh my, yes they do.

OMG. I totally forgot about that song.

Slater's character is a little too Rasputin-y for my taste but otherwise, best television on right now...

Just so everybody knows, no relation. ;-)

one of the worst songs ever recorded. Nonsense lyrics trying to sound deep and meaningful. None of it makes sense

@Kathleen O'Neill, me too. Every once in a while "Jackson" or "Summer Wine" will pop into my head, but this one I looked at the lyrics and couldn't even remember how the melodies went. So very weird, too.

@Time Served in many ways your objections are reasonable. It's meant to sound pretentious and definitely doesn't mean anything. Still it achieves some WTF splendor.

In defense of pretensions, if all popular musicians feared being thought pretentious, we would have no progressive rock.

Maybe the composer and the performers were trying to be ironic? It doesn't mean crap and we know it sort of thing. A radio station I listen to at night uses it for bumper music. Drives me nuts, especially the beginning, middle and end.

@Time Served @Yastreblyansky

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who can't figure out what the hell it means. I must have forgotten the song for a reason.

I absolutely love Jackson, but not the Nancy Sinatra version. The Johnny/June or Kingston Trio version.

Isn't there supposed to be a half-submerged Statue of Liberty somewhere in that video?
