It continues to appear as though I am much more widely read on the DL than my traffic, comments, link rate, employment prospects and contributions would indicate.
On Meet the Press, White Soul Brother Number One -- David Brooks -- was joined by the profoundly crazy Ben Carson to have a National Conversation About Race ™ because who better...
Brother Charlie Pierce from Tuesday morning:
SOUL BROTHER NUMBER ONE: MISTER DAVID BROOKS ON RACEBy Charles P. Pierce on December 2, 2014
As the proud owner of a stack of rejection letters tall enough to be able to ride the Full Throttle roller-coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain unescorted, I get it that sometimes there simply is no market for what one writes.
So if there really were no market for what I write or how I write it, I'd understand.
But clearly there is.
So after a decade of writing into the abyss I have to conclude that it's me, personally, who for some reason is unwelcome at the grown-up table.
Well, so be it.
On the plus side, it is my understanding that when I die, on my deathbed, I will receive total consciousness.
So I got that going for me.
Which is nice.

The labels are for the SEObots, right?
(Yes, it is vastly unfair that your concepts get lifted without at least acknowledgement. In a fair and just universe, you would be the Mike Royko Professor (Emeritus) of the School of Journalism of your choice, and Mr. Sullivan would be writing cranky screeds that no one read, but I'm not allowed to run things here.)
You frequently knock it out of the fucking park, as far as I'm concerned.
Which is nice.
Heh - I remembered I'd seen an interesting piece with the "Soul Brother David Brooks" appellation, when I'd gotten interrupted and navigated away. Now, where was that...first place I looked was Driftglass, sounds like him, but no headline when I scrolled through the titles. Had to Google it - ah, it was Pierce. Except it WAS you.
Your stuff is as good as anyone else, maybe a little bitter in parts, maybe grinding those axes just a bit too sharp, but who the hell wants more mush, we want/need real people telling the truth. I hope you get your shot, and yeah, I can see you could get tired doing this on a regular basis without something in return, but, I urge you out of at the very least my own personal selfishness, don't stop now!

quasi on topic!
Mr. Pierce totally loves you, as do we all. He just has a hard time expressing himself. Meanwhile that Total Consciousness thing is going to be great, and worth waiting a really long time for.
Fuck that DG! You keep your head up(as if you needed me to tell you that), and you keep on keepin' on. I for one am ever grateful for your writings, even when i don't comment. You, Mike Malloy and Cenk are bout the only ones that call it like it is and 'make it plain'.
I will say that Mr. Pierce makes me laugh sometimes so he does has that going for him.
If you're going to steal, steal from the best, and when the best steal from you....er, I'm not sure, but it must mean you're doing something right. For which you will surely be rewarded in the next life, so you got that going for you.
Somewhat OT, but today Pierce delivered a slobbering kiss to Snowden and Poitras' "documentary", closing with the statement, "These are brave people".
Sorry, DG, you are miles, miles, galaxies and the plural of cosmos better than Pierce could ever hope to be.
i used to read your blog fairly often, then for no particular reason, I wandered off and stop keeping tabs. Recently I came back ... and immediately was reminded why I had you as a must-see stop on my trip round the interwebs.
I think you're consistently putting up solid thought provoking work.
I love it.
When I am closer to climbing out of the economic hole I'm in , I'll drop a few chips in the pot for you.
