The Widening Gyre

    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity...

A slightly askew comment to the topic at hand.
I would add this dialog from the movie “Sin City”: The character played by Booth Powers speaking to the character played by Bruce Willis “…power comes from lying, lying big and the whole damn world will play along with you. Once you got people believing what they know in their hearts ain’t true, you got’em by the balls”. Wayne Lapdog LaPierre is a slimy slug of a liar (No offence to all the good hard working slugs in the world). And his continuing success at lying and getting people to go along with those lies, and the circle of “The Columbine Effect” will remain unbroken. Another fine example of the grifters art.

That dialog, of course, applies to many of our current horror movie scenes being played out in real time today, successfully put into action by some of the biggest lying ever seen. The group that comprises the billionaires club are the biggest, fattest, liars to crawl on this planet (they are so low they couldn’t crawl under a hat). The resulting slaughter doesn’t matter, it’s always, forever, all about the power and money. The flesh, blood and bone, smashed, splashed, and splattered, well, it’s just business. Nothing personal, just business. Just another day.

There are consequences to these things - just not any that make sense. Columbine caused a slew of laws that mean that any kid that brings a swiss army knife to school is expelled. And we all have to take our shoes off to get on a plan because of one moron. But there are no consequences for the shooters because FREEDOM!!!

When speech is money and the gun manufacturers and weapons sales industry has plenty of money.
We see how the Roberts Court has intensified this agony.
Apathy sets in just as it does over voting rights and campaign donating activities

"Guns don't kill people-people kill people"
This is the slogan that should cause background checks and close loopholes.
Because it is people buying guns..
Even nutty unbalanced people.

I have been waiting for the NRA to come out promoting that the right to bare arms cannot be infringed, even when a criminal is convicted and sent to prison. I mean HELL, Don't these convicted criminals have a right to protect themselves in prison. You know, I heard prison can be a very very dangerous place to live.

This country is ruled by the High Church of Redemptive Violence. We don't believe in the Constitution, the Bible, the Koran, the assembled works of Lovecraft, or anything else. We trust Violence to resolve any situation. If Violence doesn't solve the problem, then the problem is that we didn't use enough violence.

We think that Violence has the power to bring closure, end conflict, convince those who disagree with us of the rightness of our position, and establish the rightness of our position. We have no hard evidence of any of this, but we believe it nevertheless.

So why would we give that up? Why would we lay down such a magical tool? We can't. We won't. We will gladly hand over our time, our fortunes, our lives, and our children's lives to keep Violence in its honored position in our lives and our society. Those who carp or cavil at the cost are to be scorned, ridiculed, and made outcast. They are Not Serious People.
