""Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.”
-- Abraham Lincoln

What happened to science fiction university?
Love the podcast, but you lost me on hoping David Brooks learns a lesson.
I know hope springs eternal, but given both you and your amazing wife have worked in IT, you both know ignorance does as well. (As Albert Einstein said, it's more plentiful than hydrogen.) There are two problems. First, no, DFB will never learn because his vast spaces for entertaining depend on him not learning. Yes, divorce is awful, but he has poisoned our civic discourse on a national level. If his wife has pictures of him snorting meth off a hustler's ass with Ted Haggard, I hope she donates them to the Library of Congress. Ruin of his own doing cannot befall him, so ruin must come from without to remove him.
Second, the greater problem is the base. Elsewhere, I commented on the Martin Bashir / Sarah Palin thing:
"If she [Sarah Palin] were to be photographed in a Sharia Law Black Mass orgy having sex with Muslim Lesbians with birth control provided by the Socialized Healthcare of France, while reading a book on evolution, she would harp and drone about how the "Libhrul Lame-stream Media" is out to get her, and her fans would only hate the rest of the real world even more. It's not that she can do no wrong, it's that the base is so blind and idolatrous that her actions simply do not matter."
Part of the problem really is superstitious idolatry.
Conservatism cannot fail, and Centrism cannot fail. If DFB's wife gets vengeful and post movies of him making fun of people paying him to blubber gibberish, it won't matter. He will go "on book-leave sabbatical". The usual suspects will talk about how he became misguided late in his career. He will be swept under the rug.
The same drivel will be spoken by a different well-paid puppet.
