That's not a true conservative church camp. Remember, conservatism can never fail; it can only be failed. Much like authoritarianism, which Jesus Camp (and its amazingly, screamingly lesbian camp director) had in spades.
W Bush WAS a conservative by the standards of the time. But that was way, way back about several years ago. That's an eternity by GOP standards, since most of them can't clearly remember what was happening a few years ago.
These days, W is what passes for a "moderate". The Overton Window is moving right just that quickly, or at least it is in the DC bubble.
Think I'm exaggerating? Consider how the in-fighting now in the GOP is between the purist Tea Bagging right wingers and the "moderate" wing led by Karl Rove.
Karl Fucking Rove.
He's now symbolic of the relatively moderate and rational faction of the GOP.
As the Paladin said, the passengers are shoveling Hell's own coal, books, and children into the engine of the crazy train to make the flames burn brighter and the train go faster. Reagan is only a conservative because he was a movie star and a spokes-model. He was mythologized to make him useful. It is too difficult to mythologize Bush the younger.
Also, "Jesus Camp" was a truly chilling movie. However, as a Wiccan and someone who has always taken a historical / contextual interest in things like folk magic and the evil eye, watching that movie is amazing. The children are practicing sympathetic magic, plain and simple. Praying over the cardboard Pres. Bush is no different than a Wiccan praying over a poppet or a Louisiana root woman conjuring over a moss doll. Even their cup ritual is out of many other religions. I would love to be able to watch someone explain that to them.
These folks are scary! Perhaps if we were to tax religious organizations like the average citizen is taxed, they'd be limited to people's living room and not setting up indoctrination centers for our young...
Speaking of stupid stuff about what's conservative and what's not, Sullivan is on a real hippie-punching tear right now. Hopefully our gracious bloghost will address it. I don't think my emails to him telling him how full of shit he is are working.

So much for the Second Commandment.
