The purity police are always pure :-)
Apropos of nothing, my blog is now averaging +100 spam comments per hour, which is thoroughly gunked up my email inbox and has become unsustainable. So unless the tireless robots at "binary ring" casino gambling for the lobotomized, "fake laboutin" bags to accessorize your "cheap nikes", raspberry stank juice, big!dick!big!dick!big!dick!, "Друзья вперед качать" and a dozen other stop shitbombing the site, expect me to turn the Captcha function back on soon

As long as the blasted Captcha is legible--I've seen some really fuzzy ones.
(I hate spam.)
DOH!
Seems to me bloooger could fix this without making people use the infernal captcha...IF they wanted to.

IF they wanted to
We're talking about Google here. Fixing things is always a big, BIG "if" for them.
Trouble is, every alternative has its own problems. And no matter what you pick, they've already got spambots crawling around looking for places to drop their steaming loads.
The solution? xkcd figured this out some times ago.
Ah, if only...
You do what ya gotta do, Driftmeister. I can put up with Captcha.
You were wise to turn the captcha back on. Back around 2005 or so I wrote something that pissed someone off and suddenly my server was getting up to 30,000 referral spam a day. I got booted and had to find a new host.
I can't blame the 'pugs because I routinely defamed Scientologists and Moonies, but some day I hope we learn just what all was going on during these early years online.
