I personally believe that Romney’s taxes probably have nearly every problem anyone was come up with so far and then some. The guy has made a living understanding the rules then exploiting them. Mitt would become the case study for why this "Job Creators" lie is just that.
I'm no tax expert. However the reason I'm guessing as to why he didn’t fix them for the run up is, he can't. These schemes have been going on for so long and the money trail is so dirty that to clean it up in a year or 2 without raising huge red flags can't be done. Tax experts would take a look at the returns and scream from the mountain top over all the suspicious things, it would incite more inquiry and guesses over his history.
Romney has made it really interesting because I think almost anyone can relate to his experiences in money problems and so forth that it sparks an interest on how he was able to manage to worm his way out of the problem.
