While I Pondered, Weak and Weary

Man you shoulda seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe.

Overall, my super-ooper-duper meta-opinion of the Reagan Debate was this: "Like I give a shit what these people think."

However, the pure moonshine being huffed the next day by those who have been cast out of Wingnut Paradise and now scamper alongside the cretinous Leviathan they helped create, kicking impotently at its ankles, is kind of hilarious.

A prime example (FrumForum):
...
Republican primary voters have in the past shown themselves very tolerant of candidates with less than perfect mastery of the facts. But those other candidates had something else going for them, even Sarah Palin. What did Perry have?

As the economic news gets worse, Republicans will realize: they are not merely choosing a nominee. They very well may be choosing the next president of the United States. What confidence can anybody have that Perry will come to work as president any better prepared than how he come to this debate or that he’ll show more insight and intelligence than he did in this first national outing ? Not much.
...

Witness the cask-strength wishful thinking of another weak, Ivory tower Conservative on the outs with his Movement because the monster he helped build finally turned on him.

For 30 years we on the Left have watched facts bounce off of the Republican Base voters ever-thickening yahoo carapace like spitballs off of a Rhino Runner, so let me ask Mr. Frum: Where exactly are this hidden reserves of rationality supposed to come from? From what previously invisible treasure cave will physicians suddenly emerge carrying the healing medicines that will break the wingnuts' fever and cure them of the fatal Limbaugh-Hannity Syndrome with which they are so gleefully afflicted?

And once this miracle does occur and the lame are made to walk, the halt are make to speak and the Teabagger is made to see reason, wouldn't the second or third batch of rodents they would put up against the wall for screwing them so badly be goofs like you, Mr. Frum?

Sorry, but no.

No such anti-stupid vaccine is on its way to save us (and if there were, damn betcha the Teabaggers would opt out, because [as we learned last night] the True Blue Conservative solution to Famine and Pestilence [and, presumably War] to the is to leave them for pure laissez faire Capitalism to sort out because, y'know, Freedom!) Instead, these Golem that the GOP constructed to win elections are performing exactly as designed, and as a confirmed Liberal who long ago gave up on trying to convince people to see reason who are actually proud of how fact-resistant they are, there is a certain, gallows humor in hearing the squeal of clowns like Frum as they are eaten alive by their bastard children.

Freaking brilliant pix.

I resonate with your take on things as I too used to be disgusted, but now I'm just amused when I viddy the socially retarded right wing take turns gangraping Reagan's ghost.

30 Years ago all of those fuckers on that stage last night would have slithered off in shame, never to be seen again in a political setting. 60 years ago they woulda been shot or hauled off to an institution and used for scientific experiment.

Another gem...

Man I hope someone sets this to the original music, like the Pink Floyd thing a couple of years ago.
I just LOVE this sh*t.

Rachel Maddow slips and says (of Obama) "He's not saying, 'Republicans *are* the problem'..." and then corrects herself.

At least The Esteemed Driftglass has been quoted on MSNBC prime time. I know she's spoken of Republican obstructionism, but I don't think she's ever been that blunt, even in a mistake.

About fifty years ago these whack jobs would have given Goldwater real competition for the GOP nomination.

His wipe-out in the general election, did not discourage the radical reich, but directed it to change the American scene so that the "Goldwater of the future" would be elected.

They are dangerously close to realizing that goal.

Excellent, pure and simple... and thanks once again for enduring that dog and pony show for our greater good. I tried to watch it, I really did... but after about 30 minutes or so, I had to throw in the towel. You don't need ipecac in the house when you have this merry band of lunatics on your teevee.

I really don't think that it's dawned on the Republican establishment that the monster they created cannot be controlled, used and abused and then tossed aside, like so many of their other tools that they have used so well over the years. And I have to admit that to see the Frums, Stockmans and Bobos recoiling in horror at what they let loose on the world gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Couldn't happen to a better bunch of guys.

Unfortunately, if nothing is done to stop this, all of us will suffer the consequences of their insanity, nevermind that we never bought a ticket to ride on that crazy train.

"I Am The Walrus" was playing at a Dutch pannekoeken house where I stopped in for breakfast after working my third midnight shift in a row at the psych ward. It's always weird to hear that song, even moreso after dealing with sleep deprivation and mentally ill people (who, thank doG, were well-controlled that night.) But it doesn't get stranger than seeing the lyrics matched up with quotes from Snow Weird and the Seven Trolls. Well-played, sir!
