Spoiler Alert: If, over the last 44 years, you have somehow missed the 1967 science fiction classic "Five Million Years to Earth", please note that this is the final segment of that movie.
Another great post.I understand and agree with your assessment of the present state of affairs. You nail DFBrooks yet again. As dark as these days are I still carry a sick sense of humor about it though. I wonder how many of these right wing pundits are actually bought as opposed to those that truly believe in the cause. I pondered that BEFORE the Tea Baggers arrived, now it's even more complicated. I put DFBrooks FIRMLY into the bought category. The proof is in the subtle back pedaling he's revealing. There are no centrists in the Republican party, you are either a conservative or you are NOT a member of the GOP. A lot of the boughts are getting second thoughts. Is it wishful thinking on my part or can others see a bit of apprehension in the non-believers?
If you haven't seen it, the original BBC Serial "Quatermass and the Pit" upon which this is based is up on YouTube.

In particular the scene where Breen proposes a desperate, stupid, ludicrous lie to explain what's been happening and the minister believes the desperate stupid ludicrous lie because it means he can make a nice statement to the press and not have to worry, and simply waves off the mountain of contradictory evidence struck me as something the audience here would appreciate.
Ooo, thanks Driftglass. This film scared me when I was young. I saw it in a theater, not on TV, when I was ten or eleven years old.
It's also a film which is impossible to find now. It's out of print (VHS) and seems to have never been on DVD.
And I'll give it more thought as to what it means. You posting the clip and a reference to now and something deeper. I'll get it later today, after I go to bed and when I'm lucid again.

That movie gave me nightmares! Only movie that scared me more was the original "Haunting" with Julie Harris. I still get nightmares over that.
This movie scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. Too bad NetFlix can't get ahold of it...
Once again, there's nothing I can say but: Dayum!
Nigel Kneale's script for FMYtE (and the original BBC serial) was so damn literate and brilliant and above all creepy.
"What color was the sky?"
"Brown ... deep, dark brown ..."
Thanks for evoking a snort of grim amusement out of this current mess, drifty.
