GA Rep: Borrowing Over Debt Limit Is “Impeachable”
July 6th, 2011

WASHINGTON — While some have asserted that the debt limit might be unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment, and therefore President Obama does not need congressional approval to raise it, Republicans have been quick to express skepticism over the idea. On Tuesday, a Republican congressman went a step further, saying that if Obama were to use that argument to bypass Congress on the issue, it would be an impeachable offense.

“This president is looking to usurp congressional oversight to find a way to get it done without us. My position is that is an impeachable act from my perspective,” said Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) at a meeting sponsored by the Tea Party group LowCountry 9.12 Project on Tuesday, first reported by Lindsay Street on Summerville Patch.
...

I don't pretend to know how Mr. Scott manages to represent both the people of "GA" and "S.C.", but leaving that aside for a moment, for those of you keeping score at home, according to the Party of God here is the revised list of impeachable offenses.

This reported about a microsecond after report that Prez Totally Spineless offered the GOP terrorists a literal 4000:1 debt ceiling "deal" of spending cuts ($4 Trillion) to tax loophole closures ($1 Billion).

What if Obama DID order the Treasury to directly pay maturing debt. (Highly effin' unlikely!!!)

Would those "lost" nuclear weapons (UN-impeachable) be detonated under the White House?

And I'm constantly reminded that Obomba is no better. In fact he's even worse when you factor in the fact that he has managed to completely neuter the "left", such as it is, and has steamrolled from outrage to outrage with nary a peep from progressives.

Card check betrayal: "But what about Palin!?"

Cat Food Commission: "But what about Palin!?"

Af/Pak slaughter expansion: "But what about Palin!?"

Gitmo? Open for business: "But what about Palin!?"

Record whistleblower prosecutions: "But what about Palin!?"

Continued Wall Street subsidies: "But what about Palin!?"

Yeah, Arthur Silber called it ages ago and does so here yet again.

Not really a bad idea

If the House Rs really go ahead with this, and refuse to raise the debt ceiling until the national debt bumps into it on the way up, that will put the administration in the position of having to do something against one law or another. Respect the ceiling and violate all the laws creating a legal obligation for govt spending, or repsect the legal obligations to spend the money and violate the ceiling.

Both alternatives would require breaking one set of laws or another. This is why, if it does come to that, one set or another of these laws will be thrown out on judicial review.

But between the day the president leads the administration in openly violating the ceiling law (his only real alternative), and the day the courts get around to tossing the ceiling law, there will be a period of time during which the pig people will have their real, live Kenyan Usurpation to froth over.

In that case, if that's how it happens, we should all welcome an impeachment. The House managers will troop over to the Senate and make their case against the Kenyan Usurper, and he (or more likely, suitable spokespersons) will have a perfect forum in which to very calmly make the simple case that the House created this situation in which the administration had no choice but violate some law or other, and simply chose to violate the law that had the advantage of not wrecking the economy, vs violating the laws that would also have brought down a fiscal and economic Armageddon.

People don't understand that now. They mostly think that raising the ceiling is like some local bond issue, that it would only need to be raised because Obama is proposing some massive new spending programs. Let it be calmly explained to them that, no, it needed to be raised just to keep up with money already legally committed to their govt payroll checks, to SocSec checks, to paying soldiers in Afghanistan -- to everything the govt does -- and our side wins. Our side wins much more cleanly and decisivley than we won the Clinton impeachment.
