It’s OK When Republicans Do It

Palin Hong Kong Speech Blames Government For Financial Crisis; Some Walk Out In Disgust

HONG KONG — Former U.S. vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, criticized for her lack of foreign policy experience, emerged in Asia on Wednesday to share her views from "Main Street U.S.A." with a group of high-flying global investors.

In her first trip to the region, the former Alaska governor addressed an annual conference of investors in Hong Kong in what was billed as a wide-ranging talk about governance, economics and U.S. and Asian affairs.

Two US delegates left early, according to AFP, with one saying "it was awful, we couldn't stand it any longer." He declined to be identified.

"I'm going to call it like I see it and I will share with you candidly a view right from Main Street, Main Street U.S.A.," Palin told a room full of asset managers and other finance professionals, according to a video of part of the speech obtained by The Associated Press. "And how perhaps my view of Main Street ... how that affects you and your business."

Palin spoke out against government intervention in the economy. "We got into this mess because of government interference in the first place," Palin said, according to the Wall Street Journal. "We're not interested in government fixes, we're interested in freedom," she added.
...

She didn't refer to President Barack Obama by name, the Wall Street Journal reported, but said she called his campaign promises "nebulous, utopian sounding... Now 10 months later, though, a lot of Americans are asking: more government? Is that the change we want?"

Some attendees were disappointed by her focus on her home state and her attacks on President Obama.

"As fund managers we want to hear about the United States as a whole, not just about Alaska," one told AFP. "And she criticized Obama a lot but offered no solutions."
...

OK, two things.

First, I asked my advisers about me quitting my little job and picking up a six-figure gig trotting the globe and slamming the President.

They told me I didn’t have the tits for it.

Meh.

Second, as all of you who escaped our nation's 25-year-long Conservative prefrontal Limbaughtomy remember, six short years ago when a singer blurted out a dozen unprepared words dissing George W. Bush at a concert in London (or, as wingnuts always ominously intone "On Foreign Soil!"), the Right absolutely lost its collective shit.

There were marches. Vigils. Coast-to-coast Hate Radio rants. A virtual embargo on playing the music of "The Dixie Chicks" anywhere in this Home of the Brave.

It was pretty much this...

Hell, they made a movie about it and everything:

Or don't you remember?

But now, of course, everything has changed.

Now the White, Conservative, Southern, Evangelical, Republican imbecile failure is out of the White House.

Now the smart, Black, Centrist Democrat Secret Muslim Communist is in the White House.

And now Joe "Old Yeller" Wilson has added another chapter to the popular career and fund-raising manual for budding, Conservative demagogues: "How To Make Friends and Influence Pig People."

For myself, I couldn't care less if Bible Spice ran through the halls of the Kremlin warning the world that under Barack Obama, NASA is funding top-secret orbital abortion and gay-indoctrination camps (Because face it, it's only a matter of time.) She is merely the latest punch line in our long, tragic national joke that began thirty years ago with, "Didja hear the one about the Republican Party being turned over to crazy people?" and her carefully prepared remarks (Hello, Newt!) were obviously calibrated to lob another verbal "Pay!Attention! To!Me!" cinder block into traffic.

But while I might not care what the Wasilla Grifter has to say about anything, anywhere, every single fucking Conservative who pretended to be standing on righteous principle when they went full DEFCON 1 monkeyshit in 2003, and who now stays silent or cheers Caribou Barbie on needs to have their voter registration card confiscated and ceremonially burned atop a pyre of Tobie Keith records.

For starters.

Corporate media not ginning up a firestorm on cue because the ideologies in play aren't congruent with their controller's agenda?

Unpossible!

But, Dg, didn't you know everything's different now (9/12'ers unite!)?

You, on the other hand, are not!

Kudos on your fine reporting.

P.S. I've had someone from Wasilla visiting my site! (I'll bet I'm not the only one.)

Someone screamed "you lie!" at her during her speech, but it was spoken in Malaysian, so it's all good.

You are so batshit crazy- liberals are the preeminent invertebrate life form on earth, spending your life chewing through manure, because that is your natural environment.
I am not a great admirer of Palin, but she has ANY of your side beat hands down, and she could probably skin you faster than most people could talk.
The fact that she is not a bi- coastal elite just has your panties in a wad, doesn't it?
Just can't handle a real woman who is conservative, can you? That's too bad, because if your family came over to the US in the 1800s, you doubtless had at least one or two in your family, or you would not have survived. It takes a woman with a real grasp on how things are to survive in those days, and personally, I believe we need more of these women, and less of you wimps.

Wow! I found my way to your website via Balloon-Juice.com, and I instantly became addicted. You write some of the greatest snark (in a good way) I've ever read. Brilliant! Thanks.

Yep, that's just what's currently wrong with the US: we're not equipped to deal with the problems of the 1800's.

Loki must have been home-schooled.

Wow, Mauimom- smoking much of that stuff? I'd take Sarah over some of the moonbat loonies I have had contact with- all failed hippies who never realized that you have to quit inhaling and actually do something to make a difference.
The world has changed, as you might notice if you looked up from your bong every once in awhile, and Sarah has a better grasp on how the real world works than many of you.
You all are as crazy as Nobama and his little commisars.

Don’t want to feed the troll too much. Loki, looks like you used the tried and true response. Personal attack on the writer rather than deal with his or her ideas. Don’t see anything in your comments dealing with the issue of how it was treason for the Dixie Chicks to criticize the President on foreign soil but when Ms. Palin does the same thing nothing is mentioned.

Why don’t you share your thoughts and try to explain the apparent hypocrisy of the right on this issue?

It's nice to see comic relief provided here in the form of the obviously satirical comments from "loki". He or she has *perfectly* captured the nuttiness of the clueless, blind Palin worshippers by subtly exaggerating the crazy things those people actually say. Bravo!

Look at all the fantastic goofball right-wing idiocy he or she has crammed into just a few spoof posts: batshit crazy liberals (good one!), Palin as a "real woman" (was there doubt?), loonies, hippies, bongs, Nobama, "commisars".

Amazing, brilliant stuff. Hats off to "loki"! You nailed them good.

I bought my first Dixie Chicks CD and then four more after they were banned from clear-channel radio. As I recall Taking The Long Way Home went multiple platinum without airplay. Sweet.

Bravo!

Great pic - and that's one of my favorite scenes from Ghostbusters.

I've never fully forgiven Leno for his opportunistic Dixie Chicks bashing. He knew it was complete bullshit, but it got him cheap applause from the more thuggish, authoritarian members of his audience.

lcdrrek- look around you- you are the trolls you despise here- as for the DCs- they were perfectly free to use their freedom of speech, but they just didn't have the intelligence to pull it off.
The more I hear these hollywood celeb types open their mouths, the less I want to see their brainless dreck.
Don't they realize they are just jesters, and NO ONE takes a jester seriously- at least not if they wish to be taken seriously.
Most of you all just react to stimuli much the same way as a dead frog's leg.

Loki - Fuck You. Don't you have some course to be staying?

This is the hammer nail bangin'est damn spot on depiction of sarah palin ever!! It is exactly right on with the loooooony crap they pulled the the 'Chicks. They freakin' threatened their lives even.... for telling the truth of their opinion.

"Joe "Old Yeller" Wilson"...... woof lololololololololol

Unfortunately, the troll "loki" isn't being satirical. He's one of the TeamSarah/Conservs4Palin charter worshipers of Palin, and they have NO sense of humor or satire whatsoever.

He's reacting to the Photoshop picture pretty much the same way Palin herself reacted to the "malicious desecration" of the "iconic representation of mother love" of her grandson Trig when SomethingAwful.com denizens Photoshopped it to oblivion.

Neither got the point at the time that the SomethingAwful jokers were skewering Sarah Palin, not her innocent child, who was cynically used as a campaign prop at 4-6 months of age (vulnerable as a DS preemie, w/heart condition, probable sight and hearing deficits).

It's all about Sarah.

i might need a subscription to EW now - as for loki

when even an imbecile like George BUsh calls Palin an imbecile

well you do the math

loki said...

Myrtle June- nice mouth- if that is the extent of your logical argument, i can tell you were poorly public- schooled- at least Joe said the truth the traitor lied- gotta call 'em as they are, right?
And Kajo- I do have a sense of humor- I laugh everytime Obama lies, because we conservatives are just that much closer to unmasking the Commie in Chief.
He will be undone because he CAN'T SHUT UP- he loves the sound of his own voice- but then he didn't have much of a parental influence to show him when to be seen and not heard, did he?
And actually, the photoshop pic wasn't bad- it wasn't all that good quality wise- I've seen better done by National Lampoon in their heyday, and that was before photoshop actually existed.

I seriously think you are comparing apples and orangutans here. Sarah Palin was commenting on the policies of a political opponent. The Dixie Chicks, who are billed as country singers (and most country fans are conservatives) where attacked as traitors TO THEIR FANS, not as traitors to the country as a whole. Country stations (which market to conservatives) started pulling the DC songs from play lists, which resulted in the big mess.

That's how I remember it, anyway.

If some big Liberal entertainers came out and said they where embarrassed that B. H. Obama was from Chicago (or Hawaii) I'm sure the left would be upset with them too.

Great Photoshop job... NOT!

Why are you so scared of this woman? Oh yeah, she is young, good looking & not liberal.
