Famesick
I do not give a shit.
Nightline just ran a sandworm-length piece of excrement during which they reported on their mystification...
...over the fact that Anna Nicole Smith was famous only because people like them kept reporting on their own fascination with her inexplicable fame, because she was famous for no damned good reason...
...other than people like them kept repeating that other people like them kept reporting on her.
“And that” we are told firmly “IS a story.”
So why does anyone wonder that in our hopelessly polluted dunghole media, wretched filth like Bill Kristol, talentless typists like David Brooks and outright traitors like Dick Cheney breed, thrive and go implacably on and on and on and on?
On a nihilism scale of 100, I would rate this slice of masturbatory-solipsistic-necrophilia -- which ran for around nine minutes on prime late night air – around 94, and I’m a harsh grader.
It really only lacked only a live shot of Terry Moran jerking off into her grave while simultaneously asking the camera in his most ponderous voice "Next up: Who are these mysterious ghouls that jerk off into Anna Nichol Smith's grave and what motivates them?" to make it a perfect 100.

Thought I was reading the Rude one for a moment.
Two things: she had huge tracts of lands and, anything to entertain the Base.
This ain't nothing. Wait until she's preserved (ala Lenin and Mao), placed in state above Las Vegas's Luxor Hotel to be viewed by sightseeing helicopters (her silhouette to be projected upon the smog layer at night).
This story has legs.

The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason.

She couldn't stand to turn 40. Death is one way to avoid that.
Welcome back Drifty. You made your A-list point with a hell of a lot of class.
Love on ya.
Once I more I bless the lack of commercial media in my house.
Anna who?
pwapvt
A lot of assholes got a piece of her over the years, and even death isn't chganging that. You can bet the step-son's lawyer got paid (probably into 7 figures). Never saw her nude photos or TV show, but I always liked her.
She's gone, let's show some kindness.
A wonderful, succinct synopsis of what is perceived by many to be a symptom, but you, oh Dr. Driftglass, recognize as the disease itself. Thank you.

But thanks to those tubes in these world-wide internets, we can still read actual news courtesy of the rest of the world.
Lots going on the last few days, especially in the middle east, it seems. Looks like it's no longer safe for U.S. soldiers to drive or to fly in Iraq, for example.
Never know any of this from American TeeVee, though. So thank the gods for the press in the rest of the world.
Great to see another of your rants, DG! Keep up the good work!
Comrades, derogoye Americkanyati, why can't it just be said that her fame was directly attached to one nice pair of titties?
