Wee Blog Marks One-Year Anniversary
After an exhausting night of celebratory boilermakers, bathtub absinthe and hen-teasing, hooligans take a rest in Castle Driftglass' square, Saturday, April 1, 2006, the day of the first anniversary of my first really-really-for-real post.
Later I invited them all in for breakfast.
There was not nearly enough for everyone, and yet somehow all ate their fill.
In my relentless quest for sainthood, the rigors of which are much steeper than I was given to understood at the inception of my Master Plan, I'm hoping this will be marked down as Miracle #2: The Miracle of the Pancakes and the Scotch.
'Cause I really want to win that car!
Also I think if I can find the time, the next project might be tidying up and stitching together (read "Tightening up the apostrophe-targeting software.") 25-40 essays from the stockroom and trying to get a small press publisher interested in a book. Because succeed or fail, trying to get a book out is something I think every writer needs to take a run at, at least once per lifetime.
Tentative title: "Bang the Dumb Slowly -- Googlewhacks, Christopaths and My Blog Year."

Three cheers and a tiger! Your literate and almost surgical posts are a constant inspiration.
Go for it, Drify! Your writing is thrilling, righteous, and seems as spontaneous as breathing.
You need any free editing help with those anarchic apostrophes or anything else grammatical, I'm at your beck and call.
don't mess with the title---you are there---
Yes, yes, yes -- there needs to be a book! I read the title so quickly I didn't start laughing uproriously until tomitron encouraged me to read it again. -- so little says so much!
Although I hate to offer praise to the leftist blogosphere, I feel compelled to recognize any freedom-hating hippie who can stick to anything for a year (I have heard that extensive marijuana use tends to make one lethargic.)
That said, good luck on your publishing endeavors. We of the righteous right are always looking for more furl for our book-burnings!

Even the title is a gem....
Well, a belated happy anniversary and April Fool’s Day, courtesy of Assclowns of the Week: April Fools Edition. On the spit this week:

"Skip the facts, just gimme the details"
Congrats upon uno ano of caching away the best knitted words this side of the bloggslide.
Hey Brother, count me in for a copy! Congrats on a year of "banging the dumb." I'll have some Scotch in your honor.
Yo Rex, you little book-burning dipshit, put away your old cliches, we're bored of them, and as you will soon enough discover, they are inaccurate. Your world is falling down around your ears, I suggest you listen to the message in the wind.
Congratulations, driftglass.
Although I don't always post, I always lurk -- and never miss a word.
xxx...The girl who gave you your first blog "kiss."
I'll have some Scotch in your honor.
I'll raise this glass of Grey Goose vodka to toast your one year anniversary. I've said it before but it remains true: I wish I could write half as well as you. There are few wordsmiths of your caliber. I wish you were conservative, that way I could hate you under the pretense that your excellent prose is only gilding for a big pile of steaming feces. As you are a liberal with whom I largely agree, I'm stuck with simply envying your talent. Congratulations, you gifted prick!
Happy Anniversary, DG! We're all glad you dove in to the blogosphere and took us with you.

Congratulations to His Driftiness on the first anniversary! I would ask what "hen-teasing" means, but I suspect I may not really want to know. ;)
BTW--check out sonafide.com for a polite exchange (Mistress Drina and I don't differ that much) on immigration. The blog also has some really cute pictures of her niece Maria, who just turned 1 the 26th.)
Whoaa...
Rexxi, dude, don't kid yerself. LOTS of Rebubba-lickins are allllll about the ganj.
Ain't nothin better than burnin one up and sippin a cold brew while discoursing with my conservative friends and family.
Some call them moderates or libertarians, I just call em hippie rednecks with guns.
That Was the Year That Was*
And what a year it was!
Oh well, it's late, and there's a nasty electrical storm bearing down on me, so I'll just mumble "Congrabulations!" and get the heck outta here.
* Obscure reference for all the other old farts out there.
I went to Rex's site. I think he's actually one of us, making fun of the Elephascist fudds.

Drinking my big black cow and getting out of here, Kid Charlemagne
Mr. Driftglass, hearty congratulations on your one-year anniversary, and may there be many more. Some of your material is just so amazingly, er, ah, amazing, that my fingers get paralysed, my mouth hangs open, and I don't know how to say, how outstandingly good it is. E.g. the latest "Sunday Mornin' Coming Down." The picture, too.
And to the folks who misunderstood Rex above, he is like Jesus' General except in a different part of the military. Besides, by their links shall ye know them, and his links are mostly fine upstanding salt-of-the-earth ones. See his

I, for one, would prefer you think bigger; globally even.
Sure, vanity pressing may stroke your ego briefly. It might even emigrate your sageness onto a few bedside tables, coffee tables and bathroom bookracks, where it might suggest kindred to some of man's loftier pursuits...
My suggestion is purely shallow, selfish and, dare I say, capitalist. Prior to seeking a publisher, first cash in on your cache' with a semi-complete Driftglass line of apparel and eclectica for your legion fans. Available painlessly by clicking the link and loading one's cart.
After branding & licensing your line, you will be "marketable" for the print publishers. You'd also be an attractive spokesman for Driftglass Rocks glasses filled with Driftglass Preferred single malt. So fatted, you could be a significant player in the next elimination round.
Happy Birthday! The tradition for the 1st is to shove your face and hands into the chocolate cake. Go for it!
With thanks to Owl - Now I 'Get It!'
(ok, maybe the greenery does slow 'tings down abit. Hitting checkered Vans against head.. Thats my skull!!)
But speakin of all things stoned and Trollular - I've noticed that in one years time there has been a significant lack of trollage sprouting between the cracks.
DG - yer like Roundup to Rethugs!
When your eagerly anticipated tome hits the stands, I hope it has some Pop-Up features based upon your original photoshoppes. But toss in a free spork so the reader can gouge their eyes out when done.
Cheers (again)
muddy,
Mmmm. Cake bath.
Anon,
They come and they go. This is still much too small of a target to notice.
Kid Charlemagne/Owl,
Indeed, Rex is to True Believers what Jesus' General is to the True Cross.
He will destroy us all one day :-)
rehctaw,
Much too labor-intensive in areas where I have no expertise.
And I'm not ego-kooky enough to think that this blog has that much of a range.
Although silk tour jackets has a nice feel to it :-)
prof fate,
Nah. Tom is alive and well and dancing to the Masochism Tango in my stax of wax not 10 feet from where I'm squatting.
mac,
Thanks. I believe I still owe you a column on dating/serial celebacy/or somesuch thing.
John,
Thanks, ya bastard.
res ipsa loquitur,
And it has lingered on my lips like wine all this time.
Walt,
Thanks. Surgical? You can't see my hand shaking.
Figbash,
Might take you up on it, of just use Twain's solution. Sprinkle the bottom of the last page with punctuation and urge the editor to insert where appropriate.
tomitron/triozyg,
I like it too.
Joe Max,
High praise, amigo. Thanks.
drbopperthp,
We missed you and you left me in an awful bind.
I had to slake to dark thirsts of both kinky nurses who showed up demanding naughty bad fun.
Barely escaped with my life.
US Blues,
Thank you my friend; it has been a strange sojourn.
Big mazeltov!
Congratulations! [nice patio]
I have to admit, you seem to have a very well put together blog here!
