What Chicken Hat?

I’m not wearing a Chicken Hat!

Why do you insist on giving aid and comfort to The Enemy by scurrilously insisting that there is a Chicken Hat on my head?

Well, fish gotta swim, and birds gotta fly

And little Scotty Dogs gotta lie, lie, lie...

This article does, in fact, demonstrate in one, compact space, the only two cards this Administration of duplicitous criminals and dimwits have left to play.

First, the blustery, non-denial-denialish kind of verbal flatulence of a man who fears his boss slightly more than he fears the truth and who counts on the supine press not to call his bluffing on a busted flush...

W.House dismisses Democrat's call for Bush censure

Monday, March 13, 2006; 9:56 AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Monday dismissed as politically motivated a Democratic senator's attempt to censure President George W. Bush for ordering domestic eavesdropping on U.S. citizens without a warrant.

Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday that he intends to push for a resolution in the U.S. Congress that would censure the president for what he considers an unlawful wiretapping program authorized by the White House after the September 11 attacks.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Feingold's move "has more to do with 2008 politics than anything else."

Feingold is considered a potential candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.

Bush has come under criticism from Democrats and many of his own Republicans for letting the National Security Agency eavesdrop, without court-ordered warrants, on telephone calls and e-mails to and from overseas contacts with suspected al Qaeda ties.

The second counterfeit trump that Republicans play is just naked, bold-faced mendacity.

The pissy, prissy, passive-aggressive outright lie that still plays in certain Republican malebolges (look it up :-) because anyone still standing shoulder-to-shoulder with this White House has chosen to throw in their lot with gangsters and is, as such, entirely unfit to hold elective office.

So see if you can spot the lie, because it's soooo fucking subtle.

A congressional censure would be an official rebuke of the president. The move seemed unlikely to go far in the Republican-controlled Congress.

"I think it does raise the question, how do you fight and win the war on terrorism?" McClellan said. "And if Democrats want to argue that we shouldn't be listening to al Qaeda communications, it's their right and we welcome the debate. We are a nation at war."

Critics say the NSA program could violate constitutional protections against unreasonable searches, as well as the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which requires the government to seek wiretap warrants from a secret court even during times of war.

Of course, no Democrat anywhere, at any time, over the entire, pathetic history of this horrorshow of an Administration has ever, under any circumstance, using any means of interpretation suggested that we should not be tapping al Qaeda phones or doing anything other than moving Heaven and Earth to destroy them and prevent another attack.

The White House, on the other hand, plays into the hands of terrorists at every opportunity like they were on commission.

Having blithely ignored every red light, red flag, warning flare, klaxon, fire alarm, Bat Signal and Mile Hile Flashing Danger Strobes about unleashing 37 flavors of chaos into the most volatile spot on the globe, George Bush has created a hell on Earth fit only for four things:
Making his Vice President’s friends richer.

Making the American taxpayer poorer.

Radicalizing more locals and minting more terrorists than bin Laden could ever have dreamed of in his wildest fantasies.

Getting American soldiers maimed and killed.

From turning Iraq from a tidy tyranny into a festering Petri dish for radicals clerics and terrorists, to categorically refusing to take things like port security seriously, the Bush Administration has shown where its true loyalties lie.

And it ain’t with us.

And now that their criminality and towering incompetence is on indisputable display for everyone in world to see, what do they have left?

Scotty-dog McClellan.

Either oinking out his little farts of fake outrage, or simply lying through his teeth.

Swearing that this Administration is Not Wearing A Chicken Hat, even as it inexorably crushes them, live, right before our eyes.

Kick Ass!

It would explain a lot wouldn't it. My mom was making the point that the Bushes must really envy the ruling families of Saudi Arabia and UAE. Maybe this is their plan for how to get their hands on their share of the big bucks.

Um, Scottie Wottie Bo Bottie, Sir: Got Al Qaeda? Get FISA Warrant. Simple. Duh.

Scottie isn't human. He's a robot. He is programmed to say x number of words each day. Once he runs through his daily cycle, he simply repeats it. If the questions don't match his answers it doesn't matter. He just rolls on. Inside, he's just as empty as his words.

As a Canadian blogger often criticized for commenting on American affairs, my defense is that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are global threats, and as such, are of distinct interest to me. Your post articulates the (un)intended results of BushCo's Iraq debacle very powerfully. I completely agree. I think the intent of the war is not to bring democracy anywhere, but to whip up the hornet's nest of the middle east and nudge the world toward "nuculer" conflict. Only a demonic hemorrhoid like Donald Rumsfeld could refer to a new generation of nuclear arms as "baby nukes." Too many itchy trigger fingers on hands that should only be wrapped around the handles of golf clubs.

"demonic hemorrhoid" that works really well for me.

The only positive contribution of the Chimp and his band of merry men has been to resurrect that wonderful old word "mendacity" from the ash-heap of history. Tennessee Williams would be so proud. Maybe the Chimp can try out for Brick after his current farce ends.

You forgot "Totally enraging and simultaneously depressing half of the population of the United States."

Thanks for "Malebolges". The free version of Merriam-Webster online didn't even have it. One of these years, I'm going to actually READ 'The Inferno'.

Why in the hell does anyone show up to even listen to McClellan's bumbling idiocy?Jesus,he's not even a GOOD liar,he's too high strung and twitchy. What the hell does"the press"have to lose by just ignoring this worm?

One of the big things that pisses me off about the neocon/theological/industrial complex is they think everyone else who ain't in the club is a moron.Too many are,but far more are not stupid. We're fucking pissed.

Yeah - what if Scotty-Tissue gave a *press conference* and nobody showed UP?

Rock on, D.

It's reassuring to see that someone can still muster some outrage as the congress and the administration play the same stupid tricks, over and over again, year after year, even as the public has gradually become utterly sick of it.

...What is so often lost in the chatter is why it matters if the wire taps are illegal.

...Say Fart-boy gets lucky an taps the stupidest terrorist alive...then hauls him/her into court.

...If i'm the defense lawyer I have already creamed my jeans cuz EVERTHING gotten illegally is INADMISSABLE.

"Rumsfeld's Blinkers
By David Brooks
New York Times Op-Ed

Some weeks nothing happens; some weeks change history. The week of March 24, 2003, was one of those pivotal weeks. U.S. troops had just begun the ground invasion of Iraq. They were charging north, but hadn't reached Baghdad. The Fedayeen had begun to launch suicide attacks and were putting up serious resistance in Nasiriya.

Everybody denigrates pundits and armchair generals, but immediately the smartest of them recognized that something unexpected was happening: the U.S. was not in the midst of a conventional war, but was in the first days of a guerrilla war.

Michael Kelly, embedded with the Third Infantry Division, wrote a column describing how Fedayeen guerrillas had taken control of towns like Najaf. Kelly predicted the war would be long and tough. David Ignatius in The Washington Post wrote that it was "time to shelve the rosy scenarios" for the war and face the fact that the U.S. was confronting a difficult battle against resistance fighters.

Gen. Tommy Franks was slighting the insurgents as a mere speed bump, but the terrorism expert Rachel Ehrenfeld estimated there were at least 30,000 insurgents "and they are dangerous." Gary Anderson, a retired Marine colonel, suggested the chief threat would not be Saddam's Republican Guard, but a drawn-out guerrilla war against the "occupation."

Some of the most prescient pieces came from the Islamic world. In Pakistan, a retired politician named Shafqat Mahmood wrote: "This is becoming a kind of war where holding territory or even cities is meaningless.... Saddam Fedayeen and all manner of Republican guards and security forces will take off their uniforms and vanish among the people. They will regroup and continue the fight. We are heading towards a guerrilla war."

All of this, and a great pile of similar commentary, was written in the first few days of the ground war.

In TV studios and on op-ed pages, the debate shifted that week. If the U.S. was confronting an insurgency, more boots on the ground would be needed. Ralph Peters, a retired officer, wrote stinging op-eds in The New York Post and elsewhere savaging Donald Rumsfeld for not understanding that you can't prevent sabotage or ethnic cleansing without a large troop presence. The Weekly Standard, which had been bashing Rumsfeld for years for shrinking the Army, echoed Peters's argument on its Web page. Retired officers poured into TV studios, calling for more troops.

Not everybody looks prescient in hindsight. The brilliant historian John Keegan doubted that there would be an insurgency. But when you look at the commentary - at least during that week - you are struck by how smart a lot of it was, and how the commentariat responded sensibly to facts on the ground.

The debate inside the administration was different. We now know a lot about events inside the Pentagon in that crucial week, thanks to "Cobra II," the definitive account of the war by The Times's Michael R. Gordon and Lt. Gen. Bernard E. Trainor.

The officers on the front lines saw the same thing the smart pundits saw, and in more detail. But Rumsfeld and Franks stifled the free exchange of ideas, and shut out the National Security Council. They dismissed concerns about the insurgents and threatened to fire the one general, William Wallace, who dared to state the obvious in public. The military brass followed the war in real time on computer screens. As long as the blue icons representing U.S. troops were heading north to Baghdad, the U.S. was deemed to be winning. The technology seemed to provide real-time information, but it was completely misleading.

The week of March 24 is vital because if Rumsfeld had made adjustments to the new circumstances then, much of the subsequent horror could have been averted.

But it is also a reminder of the reality one sees again and again: Debate inside any administration is less sophisticated and realistic than the debate among experts outside. The people inside have access to a bit more information. But they are more likely to self-censor for fear of endangering their careers. Debate inside is much more likely to be warped by the egotism, insecurity, power lust and distracting busyness of people at the top.

That's true in general, and it's true in spades in Donald Rumsfeld's Pentagon. "Cobra II" makes Rumsfeld and Franks each seem like Barry Bonds: a formerly intimidating figure who now just seems pathetic. Those two were contemptuous of the armchair generals and the TV kibitzers. But at the crucial moment in their lives, they got things wrong, and the pundits often got things right."

Do you want to do the honors or should I this time?

jp,

I have a post all ready to go on this very thing, but Blogger won't let me post the damned thing.

It won't let me post anything.

I keep getting a "EOF while reading from control connection" error message whenever I try to post something new, republish old posts (just to see if it'll work) republish the blog index, or republish the whole blog (which usually flushes out any glitches).

Which means, if I can't find a fix, this blog is shot, at least for the time being.

I've always maintained that the only reason Bush keeps Scott McClellan at his job is that he makes Bush look slightly smarter by comparison. I defy anyone to come up with a better theory. If you do, keep it to yourself! Like all good Republicans I am an enemy of facts. So no matter how much evidence you might have to back up your claim, I will still you are wrong. And to be safe I'll also label you as a coward and a traitor.

I will still say you are wrong, that is.
