Mullah Pat

Makes Sweet Baby Jesus Cry.

Again.

About a month ago I wrote this…
“Always inflammatory, or hateful, or homicidal – and often all three – Mullah Pat’s Fucktard Fatwas come with the clockwork periodicity of some kind of Fundamenstrual Cycle.

Just about every 28 days, Mullah Pat has some fresh loony that he just can’t help shouting to the world.

Here’s this month’s tirade against Reality.”
Looks like his Pinhead Period was just a little late this month

Robertson Finds Radical Muslims 'Satanic'
By SONJA BARISIC, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 21 minutes ago
Television evangelist Pat Robertson said Monday on his live news-and-talk program "The 700 Club" that Islam is not a religion of peace, and that radical Muslims are "satanic."

Robertson's comments came after he watched a news story on his Christian Broadcasting Network about Muslim protests in Europe over the cartoon drawings of the Prophet Muhammad.

He remarked that the outpouring of rage elicited by cartoons "just shows the kind of people we're dealing with. These people are crazed fanatics, and I want to say it now: I believe it's motivated by demonic power. It is satanic and it's time we recognize what we're dealing with."

Robertson also said that "the goal of Islam, ladies and gentlemen, whether you like it or not, is world domination."

The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, called Robertson's new comments "grossly irresponsible."
"At a time when inter-religious tensions around the world are at an all-time high, Robertson seems determined to throw gasoline on the fire," Lynn said in a statement.

“…the goal of Islam, ladies and gentlemen, whether you like it or not, is world domination."?

Tough talk from the babbling codpiece for a religion whose stated goal is not merely the domination of the world, but the end of all Creation.

I don’t know that I’ll be spending the small increment of discretionary time I have these days on Mullah Pat anymore.

Yes, it is a tragedy that so many millions of Americas turn to this hateful wretch for guidance and inspiration. Yes, it is a deeper tragedy that these sick, pathetic creatures regularly turn their particular brand of evangelical psychosis into the electoral Mother Lode for the Party of God.

There was a time when I would have sided with Yul Brenner’s Ramses in the “Ten Commandments” that Mullah Pat should go mocked but otherwise unmolested under the principle"Let Him Rave on that Men May Know Him Mad."

A bright “Warning: Radioactive Waste” sign so simple and clear and unambiguous that 10,000 years from now, whoever and whatever inherits the Earth knows not to dig there.

No more.

As far as I can tell, there are no more fence straddlers out there in the world.

No one is on such a trembling verge that they’re one click to the left away from being a Progressive, and one right click away from a being born again into the Church of Dobson. Kicking the ideological tires on Liberalism and Fundamentalism, walking around both, saying, “Weeeeell, I just don’t know…”

Choosing your existential gang affiliation doesn’t work that way.

If your head is already packed with Chick Tract Nightmare Christianity steeping in an ooze of Falwellian Nihilistic Embalming Fluid, you are dead to reason from jump. Lost, in every sense -- more hopelessly gone than any addict (There are no churches full of cheering junkies telling you that staying on the spike is your only way to salvation. No ideology that threatens you with eternal damnation if you put the pipe down.) -- and there are no magic conjure words and reason and compassion that can win them back.

No, the ravings of Mullah Pat are not a cautionary tale. They serve no purpose but incrementally increasing Robertson’s Dominionist street cred, giving aid and comfort to home-grown theocrats who want to raze our Democracy, and reminding the rest of us of that about which we need no reminding – that Conservative Fundamentalists are a cancer on this country and should never, ever be allowed anywhere near the levers of power.

Indeed, indeed. What I find so sad about these people is how they project their profound neuroses onto the Spirit in order that they may call these neuroses virtues and call healthy that which is manifestly unhealthy. The true seeker knows that the Spirit is always so much more than any one human mind in any one time or place imagines the Spirit to be. And the true seeker knows that if the Spirit would have us do or be anything, the Spirit would have us evaluate our choices in terms of whether or not they are serving the constructive purposes of life, and be willing to change when our choices are not doing so.

Jeez, drifty.

Fuckwad Fatwas.

Pinhead Period.

Fundamenstrual Cycle

three times in one post I'm choking on my lunch. Quite a way with the turn of the phrase there.

Preach it, Brother Drift!

My only caveat is I do agree (unfortunately) with Mullah Pat that Fundamentalist Islam is not a religion of Peace (and never had been, from its bloody beginnings). Where I disagree with him is the underlying assumption that his brand of Christianity is any less toxic. In fact, looking back at history, absolutist chiristianity was MORE toxic, so his solution makes no sense :)

Whenever someone asks me "Well then, what is the first thing you would do as president?", I reply with the Biblical example (at least in the movie) of Rameses (where Yul Brynner's character still may have some validity), in (paraphrasing):

"Let the name 'George W. Bush' be stricken from the temple walls, the monuments, the history...'

Unfortunately, it would take a lot more than that to erase the effects these monsters have wrought.

I refer to the Rethug Fundamentalmidgets by the Arabic translation of that phrase: Hezbollah. American Hezbollah.

I just want to remind everybody that authoritarian religion, whether authoritarian Christianity, authoritarian Islam, or authoritarian whatever, does not speak for the Deity. If God thought dictatorship were the right way to run a society, He'd just come down here and do it Himself, rather than relying on fallible, corruptible human beings.

Drifty:

Xtianity is conceptually based on guilt and violence. That's destructive. And since the Spirit is the Creator of Life, and therefore a creative engineer of sorts, I am inclined to think that the Spirit would have us be constructive rather than be destructive, and that's why I could never believe in the Supreme Deity in the Fundie Xtian way.
