The Tears of a Clown

“Now if there's a moue on my face
It's only there trying to fool the public…”

Jee-zus.

Bringing the missus along on the job interview?

Outside of an episode of “Bewitched”, where does this make sense? Except as stagecraft? Except as Sammy’s own tightly scripted, on-cue-emoting, “high tech lynching” moment to help clear a few of those pesky, factual hurdles.

Still, it had a silver lining.

It inspired the inimitable LowerManhattanite to pen this.

Sung to the tune of Roy Orbison's "Crying"

Questioning got tight...for a while,
Fell back on guile for a while...
But we decided last night,
To stage a lachrymose sight,
When Lindsay Graham would nod just sooooo...

This lie we'll sell.
How can they tell,
That you were cry-yi-ying, right on cue...
Cry-yi-ying, right on cue...
And that you'd ...run along,
Weeping...and playing the wronged.
Wronged and crying. Crying. Crying. Cry-yi-ying.
We've played...our hand.
Media flames...we've fanned, thanks to your crying.

Trying to lie,...my way through,
Past misdeeds a'comin' due.
This right-wing whore, longs for so much more,
So darling, here's what you must do...
For the G....O.P.,
Break up...the ennui,
And start cry-yi-ying, right on cue...
Cry-yi-ying, right on cue...

Turn on your heel...be gone.
Move the focus, from here on...
On your crying. Crying. Crying. Cry-yi-ying.

Crying.
Cry-yi-ying...
Riiiiight onnn cuuuueee!

END.
(and with my deepest apologies to the late, great Roy Orbison)

When his writing isn’t plain knocking me out, LowerManhattanite just cracks me right the hell up.
