The Republican's Patriotism Problem

Who Loves Ya Baby!

As the Right made abundantly clear during the 2008 Presidential campaign, there is one and only one true test of a patriot -- one and only Shibboleth for loving the land of the Free and home of the Brave more than the common run of citizen,

The Flag Pin.

Now, I don't pretend to understand all the "science" behind it, but apparently flag pins are to secret America-haters exactly like holy water is to a vampire, or silver is to a werewolf, or questions about what newspaper you read are to Caribou Barbie: politicians who wear the pin prove beyond any doubt that they love their country more that you, ya dirty hippie bastard; conversely, those who don't should at a minimum be held in indefinite detention on suspicion of being cheese-eating, America-hating surrender monkeys.

Mind you, I don't believe such transparently demagogic drivel, but man oh man, the Right sure does.

And don't just settle for taking my inherently unreliable dirty hippie word for it.

No lesser authorities on 100% pure, unalloyed Murrica Pay-Tree-Oh-Tism than Sean Hannity...
"[W]hy do we wear pins? Because our country was under attack." He continued: "And to politicize once again the war to this extent. Well, who cares about the war? Are you proud of your country?"
Michelle Malkin...

So, Barack Obama refuses to wear an American flag pin because it has become a substitute for “true patriotism.”

Can you imagine the Obama-approved presidential seal should this moonbat win the White House? (Yes, I’m having fun goofing off with the Photoshop spraypaint brush. It’s just one of those days.)

OBAMA DUMPS AMERICAN FLAG

Seriously, you want this for President of these great United States. This is how he catches the attention of a media aligned with the terror force? This useful tool won't wear an American flag pin? Talk about pandering to the radical base, he ought to run against Ahmadinejad.

He is scoring points with Georgie Soros. Won't be waiting long for his Soros stipend, I'm sure. What's Obama Hussein's new campaign slogan, "America Sucks!" ? Polls out today show Obama is down 30 points off sHrillary - is this his attempt to grab the Move on and Media Matters crowd?

Clearly Obama is running for vice-president. European socialist Clinton pretends to be a moderate and Obama snares the code pink crowd.

Fox & Friends' Doocy reported Obama's "patriotism problems"

October 23, 2007 2:09 pm ET

During the October 23 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, while previewing a discussion of a clip of Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) in which Obama did not place his hand over his heart during the playing of the national anthem at a campaign event in Indianola, Iowa, co-host Steve Doocy asserted, "First he kicked his American flag pin to the curb. Now Barack Obama has a new round of patriotism problems,"

Obama's Flag Pin Flip-Flop?

By Jay Newton-Small/Washington Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Obama may make it sound like just a random fashion choice, but there is a large swath of Americans who take symbols like the pledge of allegiance, the national anthem, and, yes, the flag in its many iterations very seriously. And, as former Clinton adviser Doug Schoen pointed out in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal this week, these are people — mostly white working-class folk — whom Obama can ill afford to offend given his losses in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The pin saga started on October 3, 2007 when a local ABC reporter asked Obama why he didn't wear one. Instead of the standard Beltway refrain, "My patriotism speaks for itself," Obama launched into a long explanation of his decision-making process: "The truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin. Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for, I think, true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security," Obama said in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. "I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest. Instead I'm going to try to tell the American people what I believe what will make this country great and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism."

It didn't take long for opponents and Republicans to jump on the idea that Obama wasn't as patriotic as he could be...

...will back me up on this.

And as we quickly review the patrio-sartorial choices of the principles around the table at "Debt Ceiling: American Held Hostage -- Day 88", what do we see?

No flag pin.

No flag pin.

No flag pin.

Flag pin.

Barack Obama loves America.

Republican hate America.

Please do not forget that your patriotism is doubled when adding an Israel pin to another portion of your not-made-in-America wardrobe. (See Caribou Barbie)

Well, well... No flag pin equates to being unpatriotic... I guess that explains why Max Cleland, formerly the senator from Georgia, lost his seat in 2003 due to charges from the Bush adminstration that he was unpatriotic, despite the fact that he was a decorated veteran and a triple amputee. No flag pin! Oh well, there was that little thing about him harshly critizing the Iraq war and refusing to sign on to Bush's idea of homeland security. You know, the wiretapping and the email hacking, conscripting the cable guy to survey what books and magazines you have around the house... gotta keep an eye on those liberals, ya know... they're all weathermen sleeper cells, after all..

But boy oh boy, none of the top three Republicans are wearing flag pins! Oh what the hell, mendacity is nothing new to the this bunch. If I could stomach watching FOX, I'm sure I'd see that NOT wearing flag pins is now a sign of true patriotism. Hey, the Kenyan Anti-Colonialist Mau Mau President is wearing one, so it must mean that anyone who wears one hates America. Good grief!
