Because any country where some

unelected council of

conservative mullahs

can just swoop down and

thwart the will of the people

is just a dictatorship staging a democracy puppet show for the cameras.

Right?

No one (country) does it better.

Or gets away with it more.

Who'd have thought the "greatest generation" fought in WWII to bring us to this point? Millions are churning in their graves.

Just sayin'.

Thanks for your commentary, Dg. Always spot on.

I really hope people are taking notes on this schooling we're being given here.

I also like how focused they are. ONE issue here, on point. No smiles, no partying, rainbow wigs or hula hoops. Yes, this is how you protest.

Prayers for them and their safety and their success. I'm so impressed.

You have to think this sea of green has been in the making for thirty years. A generation held back from modernity by the hand of God/Allah.

Even if the status quo remains in hand, the green movement will not easily be cast aside. There are moments that I recall the same catch-your-breath feeling. The solidarity movement in Poland, the Berlin wall coming down, Tiananmen Square. To what degree of success they will have, we can only hope.

I just read this week -- I think it was in the Jane Mayer NYer article about Panetta at the CIA -- that some D.C. genius has an idea about a torture truth commission to be headed by Sandra Day O'Connor.

Christ, can you imagine? But for Sandra Day, there would have been no torture.

One wonders how the woman sleeps at night.

(And yeah, I'm okay with the whole truth commission concept. But putting a dishonest broker like Sandra Day at the head of it is just sick.)

Like your new background, Drifty :-)

Very interesting about Sandra Day O'Conner. Totally agree with you, RIL. Make no sense and will have no credibility. Reminds me some other puppet show going on right now.... hmmmm.

Yeah, the comparisons between the stolen elections in Iran and the US are rather blatant, but the corporate media dutifully ignores them.

But where are the giant puppets? The 'Free Mumia' signs and the hippie dancers and musicians?

Now that the repubs are excoriating Obama for not doing more to help (JDAM help?) the Iranian people, it's a good time to ask where were the bleeding heart conservatives when the Shah was ass-raping Iran?

the point is devadstatingly right-on.

Libhom's comment that not a peep is to be found in the establishment media about this obvious 'while we're on the subject of presidential recounts' point is seems right to me too.

With the Honduran crisis, this post works on a whole new front (the more things change...).
