Yearning Man

Senator, as you know full-well, the art of high-stakes Progressive politics is trying to sculpt something that remotely resembles responsible, humane public policy out of napalm, scripture, pitchblende and hair tonic in a completely hostile environment where every turd in the Great Red State Outhouse is trying to shove a grenade up your ass.

And however right and righteous your cause, and however new-penny-bright you may be, in 2008, anyone who plays at high-stakes politics at the Presidential level while wearing flash paper underpants is a Complete. Fucking. Idiot.

Now go away and spend the next decade apologizing to your wife.

Alas. I -- Ye Olde Originally for Edwards Yeowoman -- have to agree with you, Driftglass. Especially on that Burning Man / Flash Pants imagery. Giggled so hard I wet my Depends, Mi Lord.

Didja hear that Hillary Shills are blaming Hill's countrywide losses in the Democratic Primaries to ... TAH DAH The Human Torch JRE!!

The angry old losers that comprise the Hillary-OR-We-Vote-For-McCain branch of Undemocratic Looney Tunes claim that philandering Edwards robbed - ROBBED I TELLS YUH - their annointed one, Queen Hillary.

Course, it's all delusional BS of the same Caca-Poo flavor we've come to expect from the GOP in campaign M.O.

1. Edwards quit BEFORE the big SuperTuesday primaries at which Hillary performed as well as a tired, overly-entitled, damp dish rag.

2. Even El Grande Boob Toob - the TV - just noted that post-caucus surveys after Iowa (BEFORE Edwards quit) found that 43 PERCENT of the folks who voted for Edwards said: OBAMA WAS THEIR 2ND CHOICE.

Not Shillary. Barely 22 percent of Iowa caucusers for Edwards said they would have picked The Hillary as 2nd choice.

Boo hoo hoo hooo.

And still they mewl and puke and whine and threaten and kvetch. And still Hillary gets the microphone in Denver.

These old fartistas never ever ever face up to it. Their gal lost. Get over it, "ladies" and Bob Shrum / DLC Spineless Ones.

Yes, 'twas a stupid of all teh stupids. Gah. What were they thinking, and I mean they... he and his wife.... that, while I agree its a private matter, that it would remain private? What? He's guilty of more than one bad judgement here.

AND I hold the hunter wholly accountable for doing this shit to another woman. Its just not right. And, just take the freakin' test fer gawd sakes. Its a swab, that's it. But I guess "Andrew Young's love Child" isn't quite going to bring in the Enquirer bucks is it.

Anonymous the First: Right on. They still are searching for their minds. All of them. Is there a Department of Lost and Found for minds? Because perhaps they should try there. Trippy damn people they are.

Hillary is going to try something at the convention. I can feel it. Yes, they're that fucking crazy.

What a complete prune! Seriously! If you're going to play this level of high stakes poker, a slight sigh and a hand tremor when you move the chips forward............. doesn't help anybody.

Goodbye John Edwards. Hopefully he'll use his legal/eagle skills to help others.

Not until it was suggested above had I thought about HRC. But given Bayh was a wash thankfully, and there IS no one else of Gore or Edwards stature, HRC just might dayam well be back in the pantsuit saddle.

Hell of a post Drifty, I hate to send Edwards off this way, but, it's best for all . . . you gotta keep yer personal gonads wrapped up if ya wanna hold the Big Office . . . male OR female . . . gotta check them at the gate EVERY STEP of your political life . . . once you've gone monogamous that is . . .

So, anyone know what happened to that post Operation Brimstone Naval Armada 'sposed to be headed to an Iran Blockade (and us to WW3)?

Word is, it's now headed to the Coast of Georgia. Any buyers for THAT one? Course, if a Nuke War is what Cheney wants, he'll get it if he interferes in the Black Sea . . . and in Russia's personal affairs.

Cui Bono, though, for a nuke war?

Thanks, Dg,

It hurt too much to say it myself. He was the good guy of the campaign, attacked as a metro/homo/sexual by the righties who were terrified by his plain-spoken campaign rhetoric, rallying the common people who were left out of the financial great leap forward of the Bushyears (and I guess they had to be corrected).

Poorer us. And if HRC comes riding to the rescue of the party, we are doomed. Again.

dg,
at a time when my words fail, yours don't. many thanks.

p.s. this probably explains why he bailed so precipitously, just days before super tuesday. (never mind being in it "all the way," how about lasting until the Big Delegate Feed where you stood to rack up your best day as a candidate?)
i was wondering which of the other dem campaigns had told edwards we'll make sure this blows skyhigh if you don't drop out NOW. judging by the hrc crowd's protesting-oh-so-much, it seems obvious it was them.

I couldn't agree more, Drifty. And it saddens the hell out of me; I've had a soft spot for Edwards ever since the aftermath of the 2004 election, in which it came out that Kerry decided to lay down and die without a struggle - and this after promising Democrats that he'd be "a Fighter", by God - because he was practically whimpering with fear at the prospect of the going against the media's wishes and having them turn on him. (Well, moreso than they already had, obviously)...while Edwards was reportedly saying, "So what? Fuck them! Let's fight!" To what extent he actually meant that is hard to say, of course, and we'll never know just how effective he would have been even if he was sincere. But at least his heart was in the right place.

Viewing the dismal group running for the Dem nomination this year, I couldn't help favoring Edwards based on the above alone. Not that I was crazy about him, but he seemed by far the least bad choice. Perhaps that seems like damning with faint praise, but what the hell. In retrospect, it's clear I was justified in not losing myself in any wild enthusiasm over the man. I've found it's best not to expect too much from politicians, even ones that seem like good guys. Given half a chance, they'll let you down every time...

And as saddened as I may be, I'm every bit as angry. Maybe even more so, because stupidity on this level is simply inexcusable. Alexander Cockburn has been reporting on this little episode over at Counterpunch for a couple of weeks now, and he's been speculating that some rival Democrat (probably Hillary) had a mole in Edwards' camp. So, in addition to the media and the Rethugs, any rational Democrat in Edwards' position has to watch out for any and all potential ratfucking attempts from their DLC rivals, who only employ these kind of tactics against "fellow" Democrats. That seems like a pretty stacked deck to me, not least of all because the media will savage any Dem candidates over the same things that are either ignored outright, or are actively relished and encouraged, when done by the Rethuglicans. What the fuck can Edwards have been thinking?

Cirze said...

Thanks for that, John D,

I've also wondered about the mole possibility and (I hate to say it like this, but I can't help myself) think she must have been a plant: a bought-and-paid-for character assassin. One of those go-for-the-gold young women who actually think they get ahead by angling for the important man - no matter the cost in integrity or dignity. I'll almost bet (if I had any money - NOT) that she approached him in such a way that he thought she was a sympathetic supporter and caught him with his guard down. Okay, pile on me now. But I just can't imagine him cheating on Elizabeth under any other circumstances.

I always said she was the best candidate (of them all) anyway. Ask anyone. So sue me.

suzan - Hunter was absolutly the hunter in this scenario. No question she pursued him. He's the one that participated though. But she IS the hunter here. Also, this mcgovern guy and her set him up at that extortion meeting. Lookit the "photo" of him inside that room. Either its a 'shop job OR its taken from an angle that from inside the room without his consent or knowledge. And, might be taken from a hole in the wall from the room next door.... where mcgovern was staying. Set.UP.

Regardless, he's stupid for doing this. Just dumbass stupid.

He was MY pick too. I sent money. I too wondered about his dropping sooooo sudden like that. Maybe hillary's camp had somehting on him BUT the emails/memo that penn says something about releasing "tapes". What's that about.

Alla this smells big time. Those memos prove hillary wasn't even a viable candidate, out of money, before NH!!! And the Enquirer publisher or editor is previous clintonista.

She's planning something. This is part of it. This isn't over. The Clintons are not done scorching the earth here.

Here's more signs of the clinton's intentions to do a take down on obama....

Senator Edwards:

I lobbied friends for you; I donated money to your campaign; I wrote letters, blog posts and generally annoyed my extended family on your behalf, and on behalf of your campaign. I saw what I thought was the spirit of Bobby Kennedy channelling in your rhetoric about the "two Americas" and the need to look after the poor and powerless. I was concerned but accepting when the Misses' diagnostic nightmare became public - because that charismatic lady was all about pressing onward. You had Gary Hart, the Man from Hope, and any number of other, lesser living breathing cautionary tales to learn from, and then you parsed the few inaccuracies in a tabloid story to continue denying it for a convenient while. What a downer, what a disappointment. Please send my $500.00 refund/rebate check
to the Moonies - at least that will be an honest waste of money.

Dear Susan of Pottersville:

I saved your round-up on the mind-fuck that is "Bruce Ivins -- now deaded -- was THE anthrax killer."

That's mighty fine processing and integration, Susan of Pottersville.

And don't the Edward's Dick Thing smell kinda funny too?? A total unknown and incompetent in chosen field - whether Level 4 biohazards or political videography -- suddenly become the experts. ???

I think the hand-wringing about John Edwards dick and philandering is a total 1,000 percent mind fuck. This only has traction if people spit and sputter about it. Self-righteously.

Do NOT put this past the DLC - GOP Lite branch of Hillary and Bill fake Democrat central org. Did you not see Jon Stewart's pants-breakaway-Bill-Clinton-as-Male-Bunny routine? The Clintons have soooo far screwed the pooch, all they can do is Chippendale Routines now.

Don't bother whacking John Edwards' pee pee. It's yours.

I thought I read in Newsweek that she was planning some hare-brained television show about helping men by having affairs with them??? Let's hope she doesn't have everything recorded....Jebus, that's all Rove needs.

Cirze said...

Myrtle June!

You've called it before and I can't agree more with you. And I'm certainly expecting a lot more scorched earth around Obama (not to mention poor Michelle).

I saw something today in Media Matters that shows faked footage of John at a window, so you called it well.

Either its a 'shop job OR its taken from an angle that from inside the room without his consent or knowledge. And, might be taken from a hole in the wall from the room next door.... where mcgovern was staying. Set.UP.

And Via,

It really makes no difference whether it's the Rover boys or Ms. Hill's gulls, does it? Our political choices have been fixed since Reagan proclaimed that wonderful false "morning in America" and called Jimmy Carter a wimp.

Nothing really has changed. The good guys are wimps, Don Juans or look French. (Of course, the righties are gay and sexually perverted - "but there's nothing wrong with that.")

And I still say, poor John, his wife is still going to die horribly, and probably in his arms. We never know the personal details of people's private lives. This is a tragedy - peculiarly today's American Tragedy
(h/t to Dreiser).

Oh, and I don't respond to trolls (especially anonymous/untraceable ones of either stripe).

Late to the party, as usual....

I was an Edwards supporter, too. In fact, I'd still probably vote for him. His personal behavior was pretty vile, but there are many worse actions, like avoiding the draft via a sketchy assignment in the National Guard, then bailing on that obligation, then lying about it forever.

But it is what it is. I guess Edwards is ruined forever now. I hope he makes it right with Elizabeth in whichever way works best for the two of them, and I hope he devotes his time and energy to helping her, and I hope that she doesn't die horribly. I hope that she continues to manage her illness, and that the extra months or years she gains will see some further treatment options, and that she'll keep going with as high a quality of life as possible, and that while she's still alive, we'll find a particular treatment that will turn off those particular types of cancer cells, and that she lives until she's 100, with eight of those years spent as a two-term President.

So yeah. Elizabeth. Geh gesund, Elizabeth.

By the way, I don't know anything about the baby allegations, and don't particularly care to learn more, but jeez, why wouldn't a guy, if he's fathered all the kids he intends to, head down to the vet for a vasectomy? Is it really that traumatic for guys? I am asking because I don't know, not because I think un-vasectomied guys are dumb. I'm just curious, is all.

What "Lost" said, and Myrtle June, and the rest of the posters on here, and especially, of course, Drift.

My send was only $60 worth, but I, too, would like it back, please.

Myrtle June is as right as a snake, about Hillary's lurking for hell-raising at Denver.

I would not put it past her to be of the mindset that if she can wreck the party's chances there, with some kind of insane "Frankenstein Rises!" attempt to resurrect her candidacy, it will much increase the chance that McBush WILL ooze into the white house. And he will be a one-term preznint, via the fuckups he will fairly inherit, since he voted for them, and his age, itself.

That gives Hillary another chance in 2012, to do a better job of kissing rightwing ass than she did this time around. (If that's possible...)

I hate to be paranoid, but this scenario has been on my mind a lot, lately.
