The 27% Problem.

Part Three of Three.

The simple, ugly fact is this: The Pig People never apologize.

They never have an attack of conscience.

They have the heart of that semi-mythical beast,“The Karlichman”

Play them a tape of their Leaders flat-out lying, and they're blame the media.

Play them back their own history of simple, flat-footed assertions every one of which has been shown to be 100% wrong, and they shrug it off as irrelevent.

Show them that the dirty hippies have been right about everything all along, and they're scream "Traitor!" and "Soros!" and "Conspiracy!"

And until they are dragged away in irons, they will never give up or back off.

And so in the real world, this speech never gets made

And it is certainly never followed by the villain breaking down and confessing all

Then PAINE rises stiffly--his face a complete blank--and
starts toward the cloak room, several feet away.

The tense, silent shock of the Senate floor is broken and
men start for Jeff's inert form. A tumult goes up, and
JEFFERSON is seen inert--completely gone--as men surround
him. And then--suddenly--off-scene--a pistol shot is heard.
Heads turn violently in the direction of the cloak room.
Women scream.

In the CLOAK ROOM, near the door to the Chamber, Paine is
now struggling with three or four men, who wrest a revolver
out of Paine's hand. In violent desperation, Paine tears
himself loose and rushes for the chamber.

In THE CHAMBER Paine comes toward the center aisle. (Jefferson
still lying face down on the floor.)

PAINE
(crying out to the
Chair)
Expel *me*! Not him. *Me*!

He continues toward the chair as he talks--a man distracted--
the whole house on its feet.

PAINE
Willet Dam is a fraud! It's a crime
against the people who sent me here--
and *I* committed it!

PAINE walks mechanically toward the chair.

PAINE
(shouting)
Every word that boy said is the truth!
I'm not fit for office! I'm not fit
for any place of honor or trust in
this land! Expel me--!

SAUNDERS
(wildly, clutching
Diz)
He did it.

DIZ
Wait a minute. I've got to write
this story.

PRESIDENT
(pounding vainly with
his gavel)
Order, gentlemen, please.

DIZ
(to Saunders)
Will you please let go of me.

SAUNDERS
(screaming)
He did it! Yippee!

Stirring, imaginary speeches by movie Senators that never were or Friedman Presidents that will never be solve nothing, because the 27% will stand by Bush forever.

Dog-loyal until the end of time.

And after Bush leaves, the Base will remain in firm, shrieking command of the GOP until they are driven out with pitchforks and their degenerate beliefs are once and for all buried at the crossroads with a copy of “Common Sense” driven through its heart.

In Iraq they will clap louder until their hands fall off and then bang their stumps together until the bodies are stacked high enough to blot out the sun. Impervious to fact, emptily shouting Administration lies and slander louder and louder as the yesterdays lies and slanders implode all around them.

They will stand with him forever because it has always, always been in their heads that Iraq would be the beginning of a Grand Decapitating Tour of the Mideast. That we would behead troublesome regimes and that the legions pf Sekrit American-luvin’ expats and underground opposition leaders would precipitate out of the air and convert Syria into South Dakota and Iran into Iowa.

And if it costs a million lives? So what?

10 million? Fuck it!

If we have to back up our sabers with nuclear warheads? If a billion have to die?

Cool. Show the raghead whose boss. Nuke ‘em ‘til the survivors crawl out from the rubble and embrace the Prince of Peace.

If we have to declare martial law from sea to shining sea to get shut of the lefty Constitution-huggers? Drag then by their smelly dreds into black prisons and saw off their hands until they shut up?

Understand that a world in flames, their every enemy – imaginary, real, here, abroad – writhing in agony, dying in as uncountable vast numbers as grains of sand on the beach is not a nightmare to them.

It is their dearest dream.

Hunkering over a bleeding globe, armed, insane, invulnerable, leering, dictating terms at the point of an ICBM and making the rest of humanity DANCE is their dream. The Bill of Rights a tattered memory. The bequest of our Founders mounted on pikes and paraded around in torch-lit processionals on Saint Reagan Day.

The do not fear fascism. They do not have the slightest problem with a New Inquisition.

They have no problem making this America’s New Face

The face of a raving nuclear-tipped sociopath, indiscriminately killing anyone who looks at them funny based on imagined slights and the voices in their head.

They only fear a holocaust where they are not the ones wielding the axe.

As I have said before, it’s a helluva story.

The most important story of our generation.

Too bad we no longer have a free and fearless press interested in reporting it.

End Part Three of Three.

I agree, the 27% are the problem, to some extent.
Would they could just all be eliminated in one fell swoop.

But that would not solve the REAL problem.

The 27% are NOT the phuckin problem hoss.
And I'm gettin tired of telling people about it.

The Dem's are paid and bought for by the same shcekels that AIPAC, The MIC, The Fundie's and Big Bro deal out to wield their control.

Blaming the 27% is a false lie, hoss.

The BIG lie and the BIG blame is on our system, our corportatism, our governence who is FED and LED by the Money.

The 27%? A mere chink. The rest of our elected officialdom is as corrupt as the 27%. Just cuz they ain't overtly racist, gender biased, etc. don't mean they ain't evil and corrupted.

Huh. The 27% is not the problem, the problem is US. The Nation. The Business. The Big Brother We Have Become, Beholden to capital outlay, profit mongering and some sick sense of global domination and control of what ever poison trades as the common currency of the day. It used to be gold, now it's oil.

We ARE Big Brother, top to bottom. We ARE the problem. Any fuckin attempt to critique or repair all this shit MUST take that simple fact into accouunt, and blaming the 27%'ers is just another bullshit smokescreen to make believe there's still a Republic, or even a two party system.

Yer off yer game, hoss. But then, so is most of this country, so I guess I shouldn't single you out, anymore n the rest of the blogs, who have NO ANSWERS for my question:

How do we change this Big Brother control? Hmm?

No one even wants to TALK about it, that we are all sold out top to bottom, cuz they are afraid of being 'renditioned' to somewhere.

We are cowards, barking falsely wolf like, at a new moon that don't exist. We are cowards, all of us.

It's a good essay, driftglass.

I think sunlight is the best disinfectant. The reason this 27% is so twistedly loyal is they all have skeletons in their closets which their "friends" are protecting from exposure.

Anonymous said...

Yup. The question for me is how do we effectively deal with their insanity, without resorting to violence.

I think you give 'em too much credit. 90% of the 27% are passive blobs with rancid dreams, sofa yellers. What's more is that there're fewer and fewer replacements as the old ones die off. (Even Bobo has noticed this.)

Jail the ringleaders (e-z after the GOP collapse) and watch the base shrink away.

The Money will move on too. It always does.

Larue,
"Blaming the 27% is a false lie, hoss." As opposed to a true lie?

This "Society is to blame" nonsense of difusing responsibility out until "we are all to blame" is as pointless and yelling "Diebold" every time something breaks. A pickpocket is as much a lawbreaker as a mass murder, but that doesn't mean are equally destructive or equally immoral.

Whig,
Exposure...to whom?
There is this common fallacy that "the American people" will somehow rise up and smite the wicked once they get a good look at 'em and that is simply not true.
Ann Coulter gets all the face time she needs to prove to anyone with eyes she's batshit crazy. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson have been stinking up the national spotlight for decades.
And yet they continue merrily on, raking in fortunes and brokering real political power.

US Blues,
Gonna take a long time. Not until being a Republican is a source of mockery and shame will things change, and that means changing the media.

Even without the media, I sense there is already change a-brewin. It is no longer cool to be a republican, and even less so to admit you think Bush is anything but a spoiled toddler, an empty suit. Common sense has finally gained majority status, further pushing the lizard brained loyal into the darkness. Ironically, it is the occupation that is the undoing of the GOP and their self proclaimed "War Preznit." The more Junior stamps his little size 7's and the field of gooper 'o8 candidates keep pimping his efforts in order to appeal to the base, the more irrelevant they (and the idiot base) all become.

If we all listened to Larue, we'd have just fucking given up when the Bush Gang stole office. It is because we are fighting back and not letting them get away with their crap (even if the MSM does) that they are now the 27% minority. Granted, that number needs to shrink more, but we are making progress.

LaRue has a point, of sorts

But it ignores the fact thatwhile the Dems may be in thrall to the system, the 27 percenters are determined to game the system in service to their blind, unreasoning prejudices and hatreds, not to mention greed.

It's the difference between a systemic problem that deters good, and the orcs and goblins who enthusiastically endorse and pursue evil, because evil makes them feel that they matter. It helps make the doubting voices go away, for a little while.

Perhaps the press is in denial? It takes a strong stomach to keep ringing the bell about the Christopath Uruk-hai.

Which is why I appreciate these posts. Good to see you're back in fine form.

The press has been headed downhill since the early 90's. The OJ Trial seemed a harbinger of the presscesspool we're now smack dab in, and that chain around journalism's traditional mantra ("to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable") has been labored upon tremendously since. Its now a ponderous chain, Drifty. That's why you and everyone else in the 'sphere have to keep on composing, 'cause the David Gregory's and the Brian Williamses and the Bob Schieffer's of the country's airwaves are too beholden to their mammon masters to stand up and channel Ed Murrow and Howard Beale.

Oh, and is it just me, or does the Karlichmann beare more than a passing resemblance to my dear local carpetbagging congressman, Brian (Shill)Bilbray?

"Yup. The question for me is how do we effectively deal with their insanity, without resorting to violence."

You do it the same way the GOP tried to do it with the Democratic Party. The way Saint Ron did it with the USSR. You delegitimize the tools that appeal to them and the Party that represents them.

Call a spade a spade and don't go on their talk shows. Berate or freeze any 3rd tier "strategist" who does. Don't feed any press criter who even attempts to promote their world view. ("Some say you need to train the kids to watch their parents for disloyalty. What do you think, Senator?") Don't even acknowledge their view point as worthy of consideration. Call it for what it is.....UnAmerican!

And the Party that represents them, is no longer legitimate as well. Deal with them only as a necessity; not a courtesy.

As for W, ignore him.

Start talking about the great things that can be achieved in 2008 once the GOP is dead. And use those terms. Discuss them as the terminal patient they are. And the dying have no place in the future.

Even talk up the replacement party that will grow once the GOP is buried. Mention realistic opposing viewpoints. Name drop responsible opposition leaders who could head such a party....

Always look to the future and continually denigrate the Party that represents the past. The one that fed Fear and Greed, not Hope and Optimism.
