The Never Trumper's Lament

The Rime of the Cranky Bulwarker.

It is an ancient Bulwarker,
And he stoppeth one of three.
'By thy long grey beard and glittering eye,
Now wherefore stopp'st thou me?...

There is a story Never Trumpers will recount to anyone who will listen.  And -- How lucky for them! -- they have been elevated by the Liberal media to a very high place from which they have access to a very large audience.

And here is the story they tell when they stoppeth one of three:

OMG, I am so sick of being right!

I know.  It's crazy how right we were.

Just once, I'd like us to be wrong, but noooo.  We're always right.  Always.

And our old friends who are still in the party hate us for it.

We warned 'em.  All of 'em.  And we were right and they were wrong, wrong, wrong.

We knew their voters better than they did.

We knew them better than they knew themselves.

And they hate us for it.

Really, really hate us.

No one has ever been as despised for being as right about everything as we have been.

Yesterday, when I was on MSNBC, I was just sick to my stomach.  I had to sit there for hours pretending to care about poll numbers when all I wanted to do was talk about how right we have been.

I know, right?  When CNN called, all they wanted from me was my take on the crosstabs on the entrance polling numbers, not my rant about how right we were.  Then The New York Times called and wanted the same thing.

It's crazy!  Just before I went on MSNBC, I went out to an exclusive insider political club and the gap between what they were saying and what pundits were saying was so huge.

You should write that up for your next column in The Atlantic.

Think I'm kidding?  Take a listen.  A coupla minutes of your valuable time, at most.

And you know what, Bulwark guys and gals, I feel your pain.  I really do.  Frantically warning about the terrible trajectory the GOP is on, and being not just ignored but outcast is maddening.  Like something out of The Twilight Zone.  Transported back to the night of Lincoln's assassination with foreknowledge of what's coming --

-- or the deck of the Queen of Glasgow which is about to be attacked and sunk -- over and over again -- by a U-boat on which they themselves are also captain:

That haunting, exhausting feeling of being damned by whatever power put you in that place and at that time, but never with enough time or influence to prevent disaster.

And you will find some variation of this lament in virtually every Never Trump podcast and every Never Trump op-ed in every major American newspaper and magazine.

But you know what you will find in no Never Trump podcast and no Never Trump op-ed in any major American newspaper or magazine?  Any acknowledgement that Liberals have been right about the Right all along.

Any acknowledgement that Liberals were right about the Right decades before it began to dawn on any of them that there was anything was going horribly wrong with their depraved party.

Any acknowledgement that the price Liberals paid for being right about the Right all along was being shunned and exiled.  Locked out of any media platforms but the small, rickety ones we built for ourselves.  All while being mocked and pilloried by the same people who are not bitching about not being heeded when they started sounding the alarm...20 years too late.

It's not that they refute or rebut that fact.  It's that, now that they have completely colonized the media, we Liberals have been disappeared.  Our extremely inconvenient existence has been erased from the official histories.

And when we try to flag our Never Trump "allies" down on social media and ask them why they have erased us, this is what happens...

the reason they cannot admit being wrong is they aren't. how can a desire to lower taxes, no matter what the instrument used, be wrong?

they can admit 'distaste'. that's about all....

trump IS them..coarser but not greedier or more self serving.

Never do I hear reporting that in the cut taxes issue. First cuts always to the wealthy. They come first. The same wealthy that own business / corporations comes 3nd to have their taxes cut.

When there is a financial collapse. It is all hose wealthy and corporations that put their hand out and have it filled with socialism. Once that occurs, they immediately spend their money on lobbying to cut any financial assistance for working and poor classes.
They definitely use their tax cuts to fund more right wing insanity from Oligarchs control of SCOTUS to owning the
GOP
legislators and put them in power to do their biding and not the people's behalf.

You see, if corporations are people, that makes people something less than a person.

Watching the House GO
P use tax dollars in their committees to campaign for Trump by making all sorts of accusations and investigating
Watch their committee hearings on CSPAN and then watch the GOP committee people going on the FOX. They are two different things. Do they realize we can view both and easily see how their FOX appearances are wild fabrications while the CSPAN committee hearing have nothing and never should have operated like that for a year?

What I get at is, the fiscal conservative is an illusive unicorn never seen. With only further fairy tale stories told like it is some sort of series of stories.
