Thank you so much (as always) for your trenchant commentary on this, DG and BG.
I hope you do not mind if I cite your incisive language to folks over on some other liberal (cough DK cough cough) web destinations. Specifically the section from 14:57 to about 27:00, discussing the vicious and comprehensive stranglehold exerted on local news outlets by wealthy conservative interests, and the depth of infiltration those interests have undertaken into most significant public communication spaces (and legal spheres) to accomplish their goals.
Thank you both.
I liked the history rundown. I first got online in 2003, I believe, and I happened to know a woman named Lisa Rein, who had a blog called "On Lisa Rein's Radar" which hasn't been posted to since 2010. I can't imagine what might have happened in 2010 that discouraged her from posting to her blog...
Anyhow, on her blog I read about new and interesting people for the first time with names like Rachel Maddow and Jon Stewart (some of whom have aged better than others) and also back in those days there was a thing called Digg.com, on whose front page I discovered a few blogs with names like Blue Gal, Angry Black Bitch, and Field Negro that I still read to this very day.
And what a day it is. Perhaps we should have taken the whole "we create our own reality" thing a bit more literally at the time, but it's a hard call which mental malfunction you come across to actually start planning for dealing with on a regular basis.
I don't watch Fox, which is easy when you have never owned a television, but I did get a pretty good sense of the estimate of their constituents' mentality Republicans have this week from Billy Long's description of how he was gonna get Fergus reinstated as president.
Like dude, if you're gonna make your own reality, you need to do better than that, even for Republicans.
Thank you again for the podcast. I almost got a picture of a frog today, but was just a bit too slow on the draw with my phone...
