Speaking of meeting Republicans in the wild, yesterday at the grocery store I noticed this white haired guy in a Smokey Bear t-shirt who was kind of loud and obnoxious and wasn't wearing a mask, so I was keeping my distance until I got close enough to read the caption below the Smokey Bear picture on his shirt: "Only you can prevent socialism."
So not just a prick, but also a Republican. Like I said, he was being kind of loud and obnoxious and apparently not watching closely where he was going, because he rammed his cart right into a firefighter in a bright green high visibility vest who was at least twice his size.
Now, aside from the "socialism" aspect of having firefighters in the first place, we're way out in the fucking boonies between two massive burn scars and just had officially the driest goddamn winter on record.
Firefighters are revered around here, and there's a semi-permanent sign on the main drag through town thanking them for being around to save our asses every damn year.
I scooted off down a side aisle to giggle to myself where I was less likely to get my ass kicked for doing so. The firefighter seemed mildly amused.
My friend Sara in Huntsville promised me last week that she would send me more cat pictures, but as of yet hasn't done so. I'm not riding her about it as she has her hands full down in fucking Alabama where the covid numbers have been so awful that elective surgeries have been out of the question for a couple of years now and her dad needs his hip replaced.
If you would like, I will send you a new and better picture of Littlebeast, who has already been IKotW a while back, and either way I'd like to take this opportunity to say goodbye to Squeaker, Zsuzs' cat, who passed away last month. He was also IKotW, and the picture of him emphasized his magnificent front claws...
Thank you again for the podcast. I don't know whether I've been around for all seventeen of the years that you have been blogging, but I have at least been here ever since you won that best blogger award back in '06 or '08... I remember Blue Gal lobbying everyone to go vote for you, and I either voted for you or for her, one of the two.
