To win elections, Republicans built themselves a temple of rage and paranoia and racism and a depraved perversion of Christianity. They did it proudly, loudly and right out in the open where everyone could see.
Now that temple is on fire and some of the cleverer rats are starting to scurry for the doors. Swearing that nothing all that bad was going on inside the GOP before Trump...or if there was, they personally never knew about it...or if they knew about it, well, so what, because Both Sides are equally terrible.

When you say this is a "depraved perversion" of Christianity, you're gaslighting
the living shit out of people who know literally the slightest thing about
Christianity's history. Blood libel. Crusades. Pogroms. Inquisition. Hitler's
extremely cozy relationship with the Roman Catholic Church of which he remained
a member in good standing until the end of his life. Just in case you're not
recalling, I will remind you of the currently running massacre that is
opposition to condoms in regions affected by AIDS, along with the systematic
rape, torture and murder of children by the Church as an institution.
The stuff I mentioned--and it's by no means comprehensive, and it's in no way
limited to any particular denomination--isn't some kind of anomaly. It's a
direct outcome of the doctrine of substitutionary atonement a.k.a. the scapegoat
sacrifice a.k.a. "Jesus died for your sins." There is no "there" to rescue. You
either reject this crap in from the base on up, or you're part of perpetuating
it.
You've got the moral courage to punch up at the rest of conservatism. How about
taking on the part nearer to where you live?
