Today In Republicans Bringing Shame To Their Country: Mitch McConnell

Today in Republicans Bringing Shame To Their Country, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell once again invokes the GOP's not-so-secret "Obama is only 3/5th of a President" rule.

Thanks again, Kentucky!

Tony was a self opinionated blowhard who has done more damage to the country than most people on the right could dream of doing in two lifetimes. Consider the myth of an "Originalist" interpretation of any document. Context counts, understanding the language and political limitations of the time sets the context. So in a country that did not want or could not afford a standing Federal Army the following needs to be considered.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

This is a call for all free men to prepare themselves to assist in the defense of the common good (The country) and no law shall be passed to prevent them from having the weapons to do so, also the privilege to owning these weapons comes with it the responsibility if called, to join in to protect the society you are building.

My interpretation of this statement is that there is a social contract to come together in times of need, for all people to contribute to the protection of the society. This could be the most definitive example of the founders intention that the United States of America should be a Socialist collective for the benefit of all when required. When threatened, when the task was to great for the individual society's needs would be met by the entire population.

McConnell's refusal to deal honestly with Obama with regards to Obama's CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY TO FILL ALL JUDICIAL VACANCIES to the best of their ability is a clear sign of massive disrespect not only to Obama himself but to the role of the President in the Checks and Balances between the three branches of federal government.

There should be no further proof than this that the modern Republican Party wants the entire Constitution shredded and our government to fall apart. In some places, they call that TREASON.

It is perfectly acceptable for McConnell to come out and say that Obama should fill the vacancy to someone of "Scalia's standards", which obviously no Democratic President would do, but still it would be a public expression of respect for the role of the President. Instead, McConnell is attempting to negate Obama's existence as President, as though the elections of 2008 and 2012 did not matter.

When the Democrats went against Bork, they at least had the decency to hold hearings, and allowed Reagan to submit another candidate or two. These Republicans are positioning themselves to not even TRY.

@ Paul Wartenberg. Mitch McConnell's refusal to respect the Constitution and implement the advise and consent function that the Senate has respecting judicial nominees is just another example of how and why modern Republican Party is as despicable as it is. These people simply are lawless. We saw it time and again during the Bush administration, and we have seen it time and again all through the years of Obama's presidency. Another example is the House refusal to even consider the budget that Obama sent to Congress.

Republican behavior transcends mere partisan politics in innumerable ways. The party is lawless because it absolutely refuses to respect the mechanics of government as much as its substance. Government shutdowns are another example.

Part of what I think has happened is that the Repubs believed their own bullshit about the "permanent Republican majority" that was supposedly ushered in during the reign of St. Ronnie. After having been out of power for as long as they were, they thought they had a lock on it for the indefinite future, once they regained it in the 1980s and 1990s. The elections of Clinton and Obama were therefore considered illegitimate per se. How could the Democrats have gotten power back? It's supposed to be "our turn."

I do subscribe to the view that there is a special hatred for Obama because of his mixed race. It goes with the territory of being a modern Republican, where only white people are allowed to have power. However, the demographics of this country are changing, forever. I hope in my lifetime that those changes hasten the end of this despicable party and all that it stands for.

How can they bring something they don't have?

This is it! This will finally be the stunt that proves to the American people that the republicans are treasonous psychopaths and all of our wishes come true!

Not.

I expect Kraken knows this already, but just in case:

The GOP voters know their pols are treacherous psychopaths. That's what those voters LIKE about the GOP. :P

Hey Driftglass, I hear you are tight with someone who is on the inside of Crooks and Liars.
How about putting the notion bug in for some video collages of the best of Justice Scalia. As we little people knew him.

I think it is what many Americans need right now. you know, for the healing process.

There was his recent comment of good universities being to stressful for blacks and they should go to less stressful schools.

Of course the Broccoli Health care argument.

Citizens United support.

Gutting the section in the Civil Rights Act discussion. Very Scalia ugly.

His 2nd Amendment Rights opinions.

His banning of buffer zones for Planned Parenthood while enforcing a 500 yard restricted area for his court.
There are so many to remember him by.

It would be what he would want. How he ruled is his legacy. As was Dread Scott legacy was for him after all this time.
