On this Holy BummerNacht*

We pause to remember how Frank Zappa wiped the floor with Conservative crackpots on CNN 25 years ago.

John Lofton: But good grief, can't we call on our government to help us in this fight Frank. I mean, you have kids. Are you an anarchist? Is it the government's role to do nothing about this?

Frank Zappa: No, I'm a conservative and you may not like that but I am. And the fact of the matter is, this bill that they're talking about in Maryland is stupid.

For the record, Frank Zappa went on making music and slugging it out on the side of the angels until he died in 1993.

Robert Novak went on being a thoroughly miserable shitbag of a human being and Washington Beltway institution who paused briefly in his long and ugly life to help blow an American spy's cover during a time of war before keeling over dead in 2009.

And John Lofton -- the peeved little wingnut grubworm to Frank's right -- is still rolling along, spiraling ever further rightward
...
Describing himself as a "recovering Republican," Lofton is most closely allied with the Constitution Party.

Lofton edited Monday, the weekly publication of the Republican National Committee, from 1970–1973. He later became a syndicated columnist for United Features Syndicate whose columns appeared in 100 newspapers from 1973–1980. He became a columnist for the Washington Times in 1982. During his seven years at the Washington Times, Lofton became nationally known in print and on the nascent cable news circuit.

Lofton advised Pat Buchanan's Presidential campaign and was the Communications Director for the 2004 Michael Peroutka Presidential campaign.
...
now getting his crackpot freak on at "The American View" and lecturing Ron Paul on the Biblical "fact" that gays are the children of Satan.

Or something.

The entire CNN exchange is worth your time if only to note how remarkably little the Right's core opinions and attitudes have changed in the last 25..30...40 years.

Because when consider the current GOP presidential field is one in which the lead has bounced from New York's most insufferably ignorant, gold-plated, conspiracy-peddling asshole...to a conspiracy-peddling inflatable Bible-MILF doll...to a Bible-thumping Texas village idiot...to a conspiracy-peddling Bible-thumping Uncle Ruckus to the conspiracy-peddling Doctor Evil...

...while John Galt's crazy uncle and Tobor the Great have been hanging on in their respective persistent vegitative states...

...and over at the kiddie table John Huntsman and Rick Santorium have clung tenaciously on to the right side of the decimal place...

...if you are honest, you cannot help but notice how straight an ideological line it has been from the CNN Crossfire days of Reagan and Falwell to the grab-bag of lunatics and hucksters the collective psyche of the GOP of today has vomited up on our electoral shore.

I'm very sorry to have made the acquaintance of that nasty Christo-fascist.

It's gorgeous justice that Rightist candidates have to engage intellectual reptiles like this man as if he was owed any sort of engagement or consideration. I've worked in the field of psychology for many years, and have heard far less delusional commentary from insitutionalized people.

Names change, positions stay roughly the same. Conservative News Network and Nice Polite Republicans change labels, but ... same zero-calorie filling!

I prefer to take my humble pie -- embarrassing and outrageous, but full of rich and creamy goodness, oh my!

I'm sorry Driftglass, but I could only get halfway through before I had to stop and ask... was there a scourge of incest related rock music in the mid 80's that I missed out on? Because that Lofton turd seems convinced that there was a whole lot of sisterfucking going on during the new wave...

Zappa is absolutely brilliant, as per usual.

Just scroll to around 10:00 minutes in and listen.

I remember fondly Lofton's appearance on 'Politically Incorrect', when he enraged Sandra Bernhard to the point that she spit on him. And he dearly earned that honor, honestly, because he is quite a dick.

People don't shill anymore like they used to.

Zapa was a Grade A shillmeister a giant of a self-promoter...in a good way! He was good at his craft, and promoted himself with zeal. He was due every shilling he earned.

Today, shillers who go on the teeveez wouldn't dare speak their minds the way Zapa does in this clip.

Too many cowards. Too much fear. Not enough self-belief.

zappa, alas, did not wipe the floor with them, unless you happen to be sane. they were completely unconvinced that he made any reasonable arguments. you cannot give eyesight to the blind. also, i was reminded how little the 'from the left' meme has changed through the years. the host sided as much with lofton and novak as with zappa. plus ca change...

nasty little minds filled with fearand hate. zappa scored a bull's eye every time he spoke, but he might as well have been speaking farsi.
