I have a vision too.
In David Brooks' vision, President Obama behaves like a imperturbable saint and tells everyone to shut up while he reinvents the U.S. tax code, after which all the equally naughty Democrats and Republicans stop behaving naughtily and quiet down until he is down.
Then everyone follows his beacon of Pragmatic Tax Centrism into the light.
"The tax reform process would reintroduce the parties to each other, and reduce the Manichean caricatures that have built up in their heads."Yeah, because the real problem with the Right is not the aggressively and premeditatedly ruthless, merciless, reckless and often sociopathic way they actually act -- and have acted for decades -- but merely the Left's kooky caricature of them.
In my vision, the New York Times goes out of the maudlin Centrist claptrap business, stops putting 800-word embarrassments like this on the editorial page of America's paper of record, and Mr. Brooks retires to a quiet life of McDonalds assistant-managerhood where he spends the rest of his years boring high school girls with tales of how he almost didn't get everything he ever believed completely fucking wrong.
And why not?
"Visions" are cheap, and apparently in some professions -- like journalism -- there are absolutely no career downsides for getting them completely and hilariously wrong.
Over and over and over again.
UPDATE: Yes, I did leave my helpful suggestions in Mr. Brooks' comment section last night.
And, yes, they seem to have disappeared into digital heaven.
Well, I'm sure they're in a better place now. No more tears, little comments! Now you can laugh and play in Snarkylysium with other comments forever.

None so blind. In his defense, DFUCKINGB, is providing a glimpse of what he sees in his mirror, the view from his windows and the mindset of those with whom he associates. Or as he sees it, his truth.
As a reporter on that truth, Brooks is consistent.
The equation is:
(Profession (journalism)) + DfuckingB = prostitution
..and its a damned shame that journalism is so badly abused by this tedious sycophant.
I used to have visions too, then I stopped sniffing glue.

I love it.
Drifty, that's hardly fair to the Queen. Unlike DfB, she's tough, intelligent, geeky, and has a good sense of humour. Also, would DfB ever say something like this (especially if he were the head of an actual Established church):
"In our more diverse and secular society, the place of religion has come to be a matter of lively discussion. It is rightly acknowledged that people of faith have no monopoly of virtue and that the wellbeing and prosperity of the nation depend on the contribution of individuals and groups of all faiths and none."?
Also, DfB has never worn an awesome hat in his entire life.
