Gutless Gohmert

It should surprise no one that the Stupidest Man in Congress would try to hide from his constituents by cowering behind a woman.

But even I was surprised that the woman Louis Gohmert (R-Deliverance) would try use as human shield would be Gabby Giffords.  From The Hill:
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) on Thursday invoked the 2011 shooting of former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.) at a constituent event as a reason not to hold a public town hall.
"At this time there are groups from the more violent strains of the leftist ideology, some even being paid, who are preying on public town halls to wreak havoc and threaten public safety," Gohmert said in a statement.
"Threats are nothing new to me and I have gotten my share as a felony judge. However, the House Sergeant at Arms advised us after former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was shot at a public appearance, that civilian attendees at Congressional public events stand the most chance of being harmed or killed—just as happened there."

You may remember, that less than a month ago, Louis Gohmert was so overcome with concern with guns and public safety that he a co-sponsored a bill to make it easier for mentally ill people to buy an arsenal.

Because like any other vermin infestation, when you let Republicans run wild. this is just what they're gonna do.

I really appreciate this blog and the podcast and I understand that conservative politicians offer no shortage of examples of their hypocrisy and gutless groveling to their paymasters. They and their voters who are infected with brain rot are who they are and they wont change, I agree with that. I also appreciate the cathartic experience that your words provide.

I wonder, though, if there's a discussion to be had about the 90 million people who didn't vote at all. If liberals/progressive are going to find the votes for a rejection of the antediluvian worldview we now find dominating our political scene I imagine it has to come from this group of people, not from jettisoning values in the hunt for the "white working class" who seems to have chosen their side.

How many of these people were impacted by voting restrictions and how many were just unconvinced by either (any) candidate. How do we find a productive way of engaging these people? Pointing out the obvious flaws of our opponents hasn't been enough. Maybe that's not what you're trying to do here and I respect that. Your voice is important!

Gohmert pocketed that sweet sweet payola from the gunz 'n ammo industry & the NRA, and so, his work was done. Even the stupidest man in Congress knows to grab the buckeroo$ before fleeing behind closed doors to avoid all the nutballs out there with guns.

Once this country circles the drain several more times under the aegis of Trump and the likes of Gohmert, these amoral slimeballs are gonna be scuttling under the rocks for cover so fast you won't believe your eyes. Of course, they'll manage, as usual, to blame it all on teh eeevul LIEbruls and the dastardly Dumbocraps.

And their rube voters will clap, cheer and continue to vote them back in. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Ugh.

Let's not forget that the person who shot Gabby Giffords was not a left winger, but a Sovereign Citizen. The gibberish he spouted after he was captured was used as evidence that he was just a mentally ill person, but anyone who is familiar with the Sovereign Citizen movement would know that it was absolutely typical of them. The Sovereign Citizen movement was founded by Aryan Supremacists, and has long served as a sort of bridge between the most loathsome right wing thinking, and the ordinary right wing jerks that are out there.

Gohmert's behavior is just the Limbaugh/Gingrich/Bannon approved marching orders to never miss an opportunity to paint oppositional constituents as mean, arrogant, violent, and dangerous.

Anything to let Trump voters bury their heads a few inches deeper in the "Its a War For Civilization!" bullshit heap to drown out the daily Beltway insider download proving they elected someone less competent than Bush and their congress isn't going to do shit for the "working class."
