I See Dead Pundits, Ctd,

The Bobo Challenge

David Brooks has a column today.

Oh boy!

It begins like this.

Race to Sanity

By DAVID BROOKS

Sometimes it seems as if we’re doomed to fight a new culture war between orthodox liberals who have lavish faith in the power of government and orthodox conservatives who have almost no faith at all.
...

After which it wanders around for a few hundred words on the topic of "education reform" (bulwarked by data from -- surprise! -- the American Enterprise Institute) before crawling under the porch and expiring quietly under a big, fluffy pile of -- surprise! -- Glorious, Glorious, Centrism (Motto: "Boldly splitting the difference between truth and bullshit since 1982!")

But here's the weird thing.

While the media and political landscapes are positively littered with "conservatives who have almost no faith at all [in gummint]" I can find no evidence whatsoever of a similarly sized army of "orthodox liberals who have lavish faith in the power of government".

Not in gummint.

Not in the press.

Not anywhere.

I have spoken to Liberals I know, faxed the Sekrit Liberal Command Headquarters high atop Mt. Soros and even broke out

the Moonbat Signal.

Nothing.

Turns out that after 30 years of watching the vision of a prosperous, optimistic, tolerant America they believed in being pulverized under the steamroller of David Fucking Brooks' Radical Conservative Ideology, even the most bomb-throwingest Liberal culture warriors I know would be happy if gummint just went about the business of unfucking what three decades of Reaganism has fucked up.

Thrilled if everything from tax policies, to regulations preventing corporate malfeasance, to seriousness of energy policy purpose were merely rolled back to their pre-Reagan levels.

De-fucking-lighted if the Right would just stop lining up behind demagogues and fascists who make their daily bread by slamming gays, demonizing brown people, kicking the shit out of labor and celebrating the murder of abortion providers.

So give me ten names, Bobo.

Name for me just ten of these imaginary "orthodox liberals who have lavish faith in the power of government" that you use in one guise or another in every single fucking column to camouflage the utter, bloody failure of your beloved Movement.

Do that -- give me ten names of genuine, three-star "orthodox liberal" Culture War Generals who "have lavish faith in the power of government" and not some obscure academics or third-tier bloggers that the Wingnuttylvania has turned into Socialist fetish objects -- and I'll post it the next day.

Prove the existence of these legions of Powerful Hippies of the Unreasonable Left which, year after year, you repeatedly assert are in every way exactly as kooky and fringy and influential and dangerous as the Crazy Right -- do it once and for all and using the same kinds of objective, performance-based data that you seem to have no trouble tracking down when bolting together columns on every other subject (and, no, data from the fucking American Enterprise Institute will not be accepted) and I will happily publish those findings here.

This assertions is, after all, the thread by which your entire career as a Reasonable Conservative hangs, so I assume you have some shred of evidence to back it up.

In other words, Prove It, Motherfucker.

Ante up or shut up.

I'll be over here.

Waiting.

Dear David,

First, define liberal.
Second, define orthodox.
Third, define orthodox liberal.

I'm really interested in knowing what these words mean in your world.

Fourth, you are dumb.
Fifth, do us a favor and retire already.

Unorthodox Liberals everywhere.

Orthodox leftists exist, i.e., Marxists. But like Roket says, liberal orthodoxy is an oxymoron, and David Brooks is a noxious moron.

David writes
"They know there is nothing a man in Washington can do to plug a hole a mile down in the gulf.

On the other hand, they demand that the president “take control.” They demand that he hold press conferences, show leadership, announce that the buck stops here and do something. They want him to emote and perform the proper theatrical gestures so they can see their emotions enacted on the public stage"

Another Brooks effing LIE!

Americans want Obama to stop the blibber-blabber, conferences, and other happyCrappy: Want we want is the OIL TO BE CLEANED UP, and pay to save the wildlife that the oil is destroying.

And he CAN do that. Even an Ass-O like Brooks knows that.

Spot on. Reversing the destruction of Reagan and Bush the Younger would be monumental now, sadly enough, yet they attack a centrist president as a commie. It's further proof right-wingers will never stop attacking, because they're interested in power, not governing.
