Fox exec John Moody has it precisely right: the "Obama fan attacked McCain worker" hoax in fact does "forever link" the McCain campaign to race-baiting.
However, it's not just McCain. The entire Republican Party this year has been revealed as the Party of Racial Fear. Nor is it anything new: Republicans for years have tried to make hay off of racially incendiary cases that turn out to tell us more about the motives and worldviews of the torch-bearing mob than anything they might be chanting.

As they plummet in the polls with little left in the war chest but a $23,000 makeup artist?

Here. Let me 'splain, Lucy. And this is several posts OT cuz I want to make sure you see it, Host.
1. You do a killer "Letter to Mom" from Judith Miller -- ex NYT WMD War Whore as new cinematic Porn Dog on Fox TV. That was Mon Oct 20 but I never saw it till Wed.
2. In the meaner-times, I go to hear Eric Lichtblau, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist from the NYT who -- with James Risen -- blew the NSA Domestic Wiretapping can 'o worms wide open at the end of 2005.
I'm figuring he's got pantsloads of sand, you know? I mean they personally had Dick Shot-Face Cheney sticking pins in voodoo dolls over THAT wiretapping exposee ... from the COUGH Liberal Eastern Elitist Newspaper.
3. Course, I'm the first SOB to ask why the hell the NYT sat on that story for 15 months! Till after the 2004 Presidential Election, when it mighta made a diff.
Pultizer-winning Mr. Lichtblau patiently explains that the "powers that be" at the New York Times just did not feel the investigation was "quite there" yet. (Wherever 'there' is. The fact that Jim Risen had the stones to threaten to publish his own book on the topic -- scooping The Grey Lady NYT her own self -- mighta helped push things along.)
And no, the untimely release of that "NSA Knows Your Bowel Movements" investigation would have had no effect on the 2004 Election. (So, why don't I shut up already?)
4. Fortunately, somebody else asks about journalistic independence, integrity, idiosynracies. All those I words. And that's when Judy "Kneepads" Miller comes up.
Lichtblau says he worked with Judy Baby on other-than-Iraq stories. And she was QUOTE unfairly targeted for blame UNQUOTE in the WMD hysteria. Oh, really?
5. I tell my companion that Tuesday evening that Eric's certainly not a bad guy; but he ain't the Carl Bernstein Fire Breather I was expecting. And, oh, don't buy that crapola about Judy Miller being "unfairly" targeted.
I explained how Miller got her middle name "kneepads" -- sucking off Ahmad Chalabi, Curveball, etc.
6. DENOUEMENT It is not till the next night, Wed, that I get a chance to revisit Casa Driftglass.

I really love your blog most of the time. Actually, this is the first time I haven't. Just can't find it within myself to find a branded woman with a black eye funny, even or perhaps especially Sarah Palin. I say especially because the campaign against McCain/Palin has been so overtly but unashamedly sexist that it's forced women who don't like her politics to stand up for her. Because sexism is no better or any more justified than racism.
If the woman brands herself, whether with fake race baiting, or twenty two thousand dollar makeup "artistry" while accusing her opponent of elitism, then it is fucking open season on them, hysperia.
It is fucking open season on a WOMAN who CHARGED rape victims for testing kits, and who believes that once a woman is pregnant she ceases to be anything according to law but a vessel for foetal fetishization.
And it is fucking open season on a woman who, when an audience member yelled "he's a n**gger" at her, did not bat an expensive eyelash or open her fucking piehole in opposition to that blatant racism.
Don't get me started on the whole sexism against Palin bullshit. It's not sexism to call Sarah Palin an enemy, or to call her on her race baiting positions.
Hi blue gal. I'd say I did get you started on "the whole sexism against Palin" er, "bullshit". I agree with the reasons you dislike Palin. I think she's awful in many ways. I also realize that there is more than one way to "take" driftglass' photo work. I stand by my view - I've tried to see if in other ways and I can't. I don't think it's ever "open season" on anyone if that means using gender or race or any of "our" other ways of being bigoted, against them. All I can say is, we harm ourselves and each other when we do. I certainly agree that it isn't sexism to call Palin an enemy, even if I might not use that word myself, or to call her on her race baiting and I'm right in there with ya on that one. For me, it just doesn't make much sense to counter sexism with sexism.
