Sunday Morning Comin' Down - Part II.

The Year of Grieving Dangerously.

At the Timmuh Round Table…Holy Crap!

WTF is David Brooks doing everywhere?!

Timmuh: There seems to be an acknowledgement on the part of the government…something…something.

More-or-less is came down to the fact that, three years too late the gummint seems to be groggily noticing that all is not right, here or abroad. It was Brooks and E.J Dionne and Mike Allen on Radio Free Punkin’ Haid as Russert did his “repeating quotes from the NYT, Post, etc.” thing.

Then he chided the citizenry of the United States by imputing that “the American attention span” was at fault for NOLA disappearing from the front burner.

No you idiot: It is the President’s attention span that is at work here. Hey, I’m sure Bush was as serious about “spending whatever it takes” to rebuild NOLA as my alcoholic father was serious about driving cross-country to Disneyland, at 2:00, bombed off his ass.

Then he sobered up and forgot and moved on to the next thing.

The reason that NOLA is fading away into the land of Unmet Republican Promises is simple: You – Timmy -- and your circle jerking circus, won’t take five minutes away from playing the “Who’s Up/Who’s Down” Process/Horserace game to talk about actually, y’know, issues.

And as for BoBo, as NOLA proved, it doesn’t matter how horribly and lethally his Party fails this country. After a long coffee break of soul-searching, Brooks will always snap back -- like fucktard memory plastic -- to his original form.

This guy

Bush Apologist Number One.

Which I guess explains why he finds so many sweet paying gigs from which to vend his foolish ideas and flaccid prose.

On Chris Matthews:

Nothing to see but an open door on a GOP talking shop. Buncha wannabe mechanics standing around the heap of the Republican shitwagon imagining Guilliani and McCain both trying to squeeze in behind the steering wheel and going “vroom, vrooooom”

Face to Nation: Couldn’t make it to that party.

FOX.
As I’ve said once before, waking up to watch Brit Hume is too much like licking a dirty ashtray into which a Klansman has sicked-up for breakfast. However, seeing Herr Mister Doktor “Heart Breaker and Cat Life Taker” Frist explain how he “no earthly idea” how much HCA stock he owned was a laugh. Go over to the indespensible Crooks and Liars for the whole, sad thing…

This Week… had two plot lines that interested me…

First was Mike Leavitt, talkin’ ‘bout the Boundless Wonderfulness of the Bush Medicare Prescription Drug Program.

Ah, me. Last time I remember much public discussion of public health issues it was during the GOP garroting of the Clinton Health Care Plan in the cradle as the Devil’s Own evil, complicated Giant Government Bureaucracy that ate Kansas.

Now the Republican’s finally have an actual evil, complicated Giant Government Health Care Bureaucracy that ate Kansas on which they can focus their spleens.

Unfortunately it turned out it’s the Bush Medicare Prescription Drug Program.

Oops.

The “This Week” round table was also interesting for two reasons.

First was Cool Papa Fareed Z. articulating for the s-l-o-w children in the room why Torture is Bad. Why it endangers us. That the US has always been the gold standard for moral authority, and Bush pisses that away at our collective peril.

And, yes, to anyone who might be reading this twenty years hence, instead of saying “Fuck this. We’re Americans. Americans don’t torture. Period.” we really are having an internationally public hairsplitting Republican Tent Show about torturing people in custody.

Not pulling a gun on a man in the field where the tick of a clock right there, on the spot, might make the difference between living and dead Americans, but prisoners who have been spirited away to American gulags and are helpless. Men who are tortured according to time tables. Who are shackled to the floor in windowless cells year after year.

Who have Gantt charts on clipboards detailing exactly how they have been abused and humiliated hanging on nails outside of their star chambers.

Fareed seems to understand that as we set the moral standard for the world, so shall we be held to that standard by the world. The Party that feverishly impeached one President for blowjobs and yawns as another lies and lies and lies and sends our children to their graves seems to think the rest of the world will sit still for their sickening hypocrisy.

He seems to understand that wars come and go, but what the GOP is throwing away by picking nits over something as primally evil as torture will damage us irreparably and for generations.

Then George Will strikes up his truckling band and asks, “Are we having a debate on this? Is the public having a debate?”

No, George. We’re not having a debate.

We never had a debate. And for all the talk of having debates in this country every time a tough question comes down the chute, we really never get around to it. In fact you cannot have a debate when one side – and these days, virtually always the Republican side – is in thrall to anti-Democratic, monied interests, bigots and theocrats, dug in like ticks, completely impervious to reason.

They use their fake media to shield themselves from any honest debate as deliberately and consistently as Bush cowers behind hand-picked crowds and soldiers to deliver his canned speeches. And knowing the very definition of a Conservative Christian is one that eschews reason and tolerance for obedience and rage, they use their Christopath legions as mindless cultural cannon fodder.

These are not the hallmarks, George, of people that are in any way interested in laying the all the facts out on the table clashing in a spirited and honest way over the best course of action.

Which, believe it or not, I also very it encouraging.

First since the GOP bent every oar to politicize our rush to war – to avoid debate – they sound just like the lying idiots that they are now that they have started to Come To Jesus over the matter of public discussion. Because the politically A.D.D. pinheads they rely on for their “mandate” thought this was all settled.

Read any pre-2004 election poll to find out what they believed from the tips of their pointy heads right down to the soles of their shit-kickers…

I mean Saddam planned 9/11, right?

Because the 9/11 hijackers were all Iraqis, right?

And he had nukes, right? And mobile labs. And rockets. And poison-gas-spraying airplanes.

And the war was all over but the parades, like, two years ago, right?

And just for good measure, the Earth is 6,000 years old, right?

And anyone who doubts any of these verities is a traitor, right?

And now you want to debate? B-b-b-but isn't debate is for traitors?!

And second, consider for a moment how gammy, water-boned and year-old-tea-bag weak the conservative principles and champions must be that they have to whimper behind Swiftboaters every time the going gets tough?

How completely terrified they must be by the putrefaction and bankruptcy of their own ideology that they have to kneel before a despicable rat-fucking berserker like Karl Rove and smile while he betrays secret agents and gleefully shits on every one of their precepts even while they anoint him Pope Karl, Saint Karl and Defender of the Conservative Faith.

Jesus, guys.

Don't you have any pride at all?

A garden is a planned space, usually outdoors, set aside for the display, cultivation,
and enjoyment of plants and other forms of nature. The garden can incorporate both
natural and man-made materials. .....
