Memorial to Troops Killed in Iraq Is Vandalized in Texas

CRAWFORD, Tex., Aug. 16 - Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq, who has set up a vigil near President Bush's ranch here, said today that she was "very disturbed" that hundreds of small crosses bearing the names of dead American troops had been knocked down, and that her now 10-day protest was "only the beginning" of national movement to bring all American forces home from the war.

On Sunday, a neighbor fired a shotgun twice in the air on his property. No one was hurt and while the police investigated, no charges were filed.

On Monday night, the police arrested a resident who they said had used a truck to mow down about half the 500 small wooden crosses that were hammered into the roadside dirt. The crosses were put back in place by Ms. Sheehan's supporters this morning as flowers, including crates of long-stemmed red roses, continued to arrive from around the country.

"What happened last night is very disturbing to all of us, and it should be really disturbing to America," Ms. Sheehan said in a news conference at Camp Casey. "Because no matter what you think about the war, we should all honor the sacrifice of the ones who have fallen. And to me it's so ironic that I'm accused of dishonoring my son's memory, by doing what I'm doing, by the other side, and then somebody comes and does this."

The Flying Congressional Monkeys were dispatched. Epic Biological Mistake -- Tom DeLay -- darted ratlike to the head of the pack to blame Evil Judges, just like the ones who were “persecuting” him down in the People’s Republic of Texas…and welded his own vast and despicable criminality to the bulkhead of the Schiavo Juggernaut.

And oh my yes, but wasn't George Bush more than willing to interrupt his sodden vacation to jet back to D.C. to play his part in that grisly, horrific local production of “Weekend at Bernies.” (Look! She’s waving! And asking for pudding!)

And it completely blew up in their faces.

Like the South Carolina GOP Segregationist Country Mouse visiting his City Mouse Tax-Cutting-and-Tort-Reform Cousin…it’s always shits-and-giggles until, about three-drinks-deep into the festivities, Country Mouse whips out the Star-n-Bars, a cross and a jerry-can of gasoline and sez, “Hey, let’s all pile into my pickup and go show them Darkies who’s boss!”

And suddenly you could hear a silver spoon drop onto that sweet 18th century West Anatolian Ghiordes rug that you had your pal at Halliburton smuggle out of one of Saddam’s Tikrit Palaces.

Now as the Dog Days of Summer arrive again, the 101st Fightin' Keyboarders of the NeoCon/Chickehawk Right come roaring out of the “Take Them, Not Me!” Coward’s Corner of Republican Closet. To wantonly and sadistically slime and slander a perfectly nice Mom who disagrees with and wishes to confront the Public Servant primarily responsible for getting her son killed in the optional war this Public Servant launched based on lies..and lies…and more lies.

And even as I sit here, this too is in the process of blowing completely up in their faces.

Again, it’s shits-and-giggles and Spin-the-bottle and Can’t-We-Just-Blame-Clinton-For-This-Too until, a little after midnight, the NeoCons and Chickenhawks change into their Doc Martens and fingerless studded lifting-gloves and then it’s, “Hey, let’s all pile into my pickup and go kick the shit out of that traitorous whore of a Gold Star Mom!”

And again the room goes silent.

Which leads me to ask the same question yet again: What exactly is wrong with you “Moderate” fuckers?

What is your major malfunction?

What is it about you that's so deeply, fatal-systems-error fucked that you manage to RAM-Crash about every five minutes or so and completely forget who it is that runs your Party, and exactly what their agenda has ALWAYS been?

I mean DeLay or Malkin, or Coulter or Limbaugh, or Rove or Robertson, or Dobson or Hume are on radio or teevee or in print practically every fucking day saying the same shit and doing the same shit they have been saying and doing right in front of your very noses, year after year after year after year after year.

And yet, every single time, y’all act all Shocked! Stunned! But…but…but…that’s not me!

I’m not that way!

They’re just fringies! And the Left has fringies too! Uh…uh…uh…Michael Moore! And…uh…MoveOn! And (if your are Ricky Santorum caught telling Whopping Big Lies on national teevee)…uh…uh…Gloria Steinem!

And then comes the “Everybody is all somehow equally bad and equally awful and equally to blame and equally “extreme”...except me” rant, which is, of course, the biggest and most dreadful lie of all: the soul-killing lie you tell yourself to absolve yourself of your complicity in slaughter, plunder and treason.

And realize that, as long as you keep lying to yourself this way – lying to tell yourself that you had nothing to do with the innocent blood on your own hands – the scum that runs your Party owns you. You make yourself their willing slave, and will dutifully pull in harness like all the other slaves…and they can drive you wherever they will. Into Hell itself, and as you plunge into the Abyss you will still be swearing on the bones of your Sainted Mother that, somehow, some way, you are not responsible and, somehow, it’s really an imaginary “liberal elite” cabal that’s behind it all

Do you even know what a bunch of bad-acid, freaked-out-by-shadows morons you look like from outside the Republican Bell Jar?

You, my Moderate Republican Friend, Are The Fringe: “They” are now The Republican Party. And “They” now run the country, virtually unopposed.

And baby, if you voted for them, then you are them.

You, Mr. Personal Responsibility, are personally responsible for the mess we are in and if you continue to pretend that it wasn’t you, or you didn't know, or you didn’t mean it, or whining “Clinton was bad too!”, or the Klansman working the door at the GOP Clubhouse “doesn’t really mean it” or is just showing his “Pride”, then there will never be a Pettycoat Junction Water Tank big enough to hold the quantity of the Blood o’ the Lamb necessary to hose you clean of your sins.

So why do you keep doing it?

Are you plain dead-mule stupid?

Or just cowards?

Is it purely psychological, or is there also some kind of congenital cerebral malfunction?
