RNC Chair tells Republican Party to Fuck Off

Ken Mehlman shown here counting the number of Republicans who’d be left if the Segregationists, White Supremecists and Christopaths parted company the GOP...

...after which he leaps kittenishly all over Oprah’s couch proclaiming his love for George Bush.

Ken Mehlman is sooo fucked.

He has read the tea-leaves of the future of the GOP – from the coming midterms on – and the results made him poop out his Baby Jesus anal plug. The hypnotic power of 9/11 to suppress all criticism of the Bush Crime Family as they rape the Earth is not replicable or fungible, and the thick layer of Teflon that was troweled onto Dear Leader after the stood on the rubble and the dead and lied to the American people is starting to flake off.

Heavens, reporter were actually asking real questions instead of lining up for the Owl Pellets of Infinite Wisdom that Scotty Dog harks up every day!?

So like Jack Lemmon in “Days of Wine and Roses”, watch now as electoraloholic Mehlman begins the process of tearing the green-house apart looking fore new voters.

This from today’s WaPo (Mr. Gilliard also has a different and Gilliardian angle on Racist and Drugstore Cowboy First Class Rush Limbaugh’s horror at Mehlman’s yabber.)

RNC Chief to Say It Was 'Wrong' to Exploit Racial Conflict for Votes
By Mike Allen
Post
Thursday, July 14, 2005; A04
It was called "the southern strategy," started under Richard M. Nixon in 1968, and described Republican efforts to use race as a wedge issue -- on matters such as desegregation and busing -- to appeal to white southern voters.

Ken Mehlman, the Republican National Committee chairman, this morning will tell the NAACP national convention in Milwaukee that it was "wrong."
"By the '70s and into the '80s and '90s, the Democratic Party solidified its gains in the African American community, and we Republicans did not effectively reach out," Mehlman says in his prepared text. "Some Republicans gave up on winning the African American vote, looking the other way or trying to benefit politically from racial polarization. I am here today as the Republican chairman to tell you we were wrong."

Mehlman, a Baltimore native who managed President Bush's reelection campaign, goes on to discuss current overtures to minorities, calling it "not healthy for the country for our political parties to be so racially polarized."
...

It would be terribly irresponsible and in bad taste to suggest that part of Ken Mehlman's problem is that he's is a closeted, self-loathing, um, let’s say...biter of soft, hand-embroidered White House souveigner pillows. Or a smoker of the pemmican of persons of the same gender as himself.

Such irresponsible speculation would, of course, be even more completely irrelevant if he were not the gaping horse-faced spokes-mutant for a Party the only occupies the White House because of an 11th hour, nationwide, gay-bashing blitzkrieg engineered by the American Traitor Number One. Bush’s own Harry Lime. Karl Rove: The Turd Man.

But since Mehlmen has chosen to throw his lot in with a herd of despicable swine who hunt gays for partisan sport, I’m sure he’s cool with cruel, public meditations on the private habits of others. The personal is political again, Ken, because you fuckers made it so.

And I’d add that it would be especially irresponsible to imply that if Ken were so inclined (and no one is saying that he is), that, as Tom Waits said, he has perhaps “fallen for a tawny Moor” thus explaining his sudden desire to make all things racially harmonious across the aisle and in the closet.

The problem is, of course, that Ken’s party is run by degenerate racists. Unapologetic Dixiecrats who looove them some Rush Limbaugh, and who fly the American Swastika big and proud.

Jesus, Ken, open some of the documents on the last election and look at the fucking map you vile little cur; I’m sure they have a few laying around RNC HQ. Do you think it’s a fucking accident that every single Slave State skews GOP? Seriously, Ken, the idea that the Republicans would be able to even beat the Natural Law Party – anywhere on any slate -- without its army of bigots and wingnuts is laughable.

Hate it the fuel that powers your Party. Polarization is the only gag your intellectually dead and ethically bereft One Trick Party has left...so what’s the big Operation Overlord plan for keeping a GOP Majority once the Birchers all pack up and leave ‘cause your constortin’ with the Coloreds and maybe even promotin’ miscegenation?

And may I add how incredibly insulting and patronizing it is to suggest that our political parties are “racially polarized" because “Republicans did not effectively reach out.” Peddle your Revisionist Scout Cookies elsewhere you misshapen, ambulatory sack of whatever was left over when they bolted Rove together. How fucking dare you imply that black people are Democratic in overwhelming numbers because of “polarization” or some other partisan Jedi Mind Trick that evil Liberals have worked on them. How dare you suggest that black people are somehow too simple-minded or child-like to have chosen the GOP on a level-playing field.

Black folks are Democrats because they’re not idiots.

Because they see that for every four years, your party spends three years and 50 weeks making economic and social war on them, and then two weeks during the Republican National Convention parading token Republican Negroes around as if that’s going to make anyone forget the vast, white, Christopath and bigoted audience to which they are playing.

Racism is not some dim, pre-Cambrian relic from your party’s distant Past, Ken. Ronald Reagan began his 1980 presidential campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi – a place most famous for being the spot where civil rights workers Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman and James Chaney were murdered in 1964. There he loudly trumpeted “State’s Rights”, which has always been lightly encrypted code in the South for “Segregation Now, Segregation Tomorrow, Segregation Forever.”

George W., like almost all Republican candidates, made sure to make that bastion of unbridled and unashamed Southern Conservative Evangelical Bigotry -- Bob Jones University – an important stop on his road to the White House. Well, to the Supreme Court...then the Activist Conservative Judicial Coup D’etat...then the White House, but you get my drift.

So how about you get the majority of your Party to stop sucking Jeff Davis’ traitorous, long-dead dick and then we’ll talk?

Still, Ken, if you’re serious about not wanting to sully yourself by associating with narrow-minded inbreeders and racist, AND if you want to be around people who would be far more accepting of any, um, personal habits or behaviors that you might feel a little uncomfortable sharing with Tom DeLay and Randall Terry and James Dobson, man oh man, do I have a political party for YOU!

It's wimpy, it's from an evil slimeball douchebag, and I don't believe it's sincere for a second, but I guess it's better than not apologizing at all. I guess. "...looking the other way or trying to benefit politically from racial polarization" is probably about as close as an RNC chair can come to saying "Willie Horton."

It wouldn't surprise me if they've made an executive decision to give up on race-baiting because for now gay-baiting works so much better. Progress!

Driftglass, you have ripped into people before, most notably David Brooks on more than one occasion, but this screed is sacred ground, riding the knife edge of indignant fury and precise analysis- I thank you.

You are the emerging Gonzo Blogger, the Hunter S. Thompson of the 21st Century.

PS- Grep Agni, thanks for that bit of historical info, I had no idea (being a NY born and raised Yankee, tho' I hate the Yankees) that slavery was still going on in those places.

Grep agni:
technically every state BUT Vermont was once a slave state---Vermont declared its independence from New York *and* England and never saw slavery compatible with liberty. A fine distinction others did not make for a number of years...

What driftglass most precisely means is that the the GOP skew is prevalent in every former CONFEDERATE state. (Del, MD, and DC for various reasons were not in the CSA)

Hence, the proper name (and the one I've always bet they used in private because the symbology was there in the language at all times) should have been: "The Confederate Strategy" as it used every emotional and cultural trope to get the "message" across.

This is what driftglass is talking about --- the former Confederate States skew GOP as the campaign was designed to do.

And now for something completely different: Drifty, you've mentioned a fondness for science fiction at times. If you share my fondness for classic STAR TREK, I suggest you visit starshipexeter.com. These folks have done an astonishing job of recreating the feel of the original series on an even tighter budget than the original series. I would quibble that their portrayal of the Klingons makes them too mindlessly aggressive, but then, the original series also did that sometimes.

Weird idea I had some time ago: what if Adam West had played Kirk and William Shatner had played Batman? :)

Drifty,

I bow to your superior command of the english language. My skills, and I hesitate to even refer to them as that given we are discussing your SKILLS, and in your case, the upper is justified.

However, I do have some professional experience in an industry applicable to this small correction.

You use the phrase, Baby Jesus anal plug, which Drifty, I have to admit is pretty fucking hilarious. However, the proper term would be Baby Jesus Butt Plug. No one refers to them as "anal plugs". And in this case, my suggested alternate phrase has so much more rythm, don't you think?

And finally, just a remark. I was surprised to learn that uber-anti-faggot rick santorum's main flack is an out gay man. This confounded me almost to the point where I lost consciousness. I have the extreme displaeasure to be represented by the aforementioned senator and in responding to his latest episode of "Senator Humiliates State, Chapter #23", I learned this.

No matter, I keep hoping that Mehlman will be greeted with many rotten vegetables and loud shouts of derision. Though it would certainly be beneath the dignity of the assembled group mehlman is there to address, it's the very least his "speech" deserves.

Thanks for a great take Driftglass.

"The GOP failed to reach out..."

They certainly did...but what the fuck, when you're busy goin' menage a trois with George Wallace and Lester Maddox, how many new partners do you need?

Mehlman Walks Back From Southern Strategy "Apology"

A Morning Edition story today on President Bush's continued refusal to speak to the NAACP references the widely-reported remarks by RNC chair Ken Mehlman which have been seen as an apology for the Republican's Nixon-era "Southern Strategy". At 3:42 into the interview, however, they report this immediately after playing Mehlman saying "we were wrong" in front of a crowd:

----------------------------------------

DON GONYEA (NPR): But if that was meant as an apology -- and early media reports treated it as one -- Mehlman himself tempered the remarks later in the day in an interview with NPR:
KEN MEHLMAN: I think it's a mistake when people talk about a "Southern Strategy." The fact is that in the past folks in the North, the South, the East, and the West didn't do a good enough job in reaching out to African-Americans.

GONYEA: Mehlman then added:

MEHLMAN: If anything, the Democrat Party is today benefiting from racial polarization. It's certainly not in my best interests when Democrats get 90% of the African-American vote.

I would think that after a while a gay man in the Republican party would feel like someone sleeping with a Komodo dragon.

Did he *really* say "it's certainly not in *my* best interests....?" I would guess NOT Ken!

Oh, and a "mistake" to talk about a Southern Strategy? Nice REWRITE OF HISTORY fellas! That was your proud name for it---the GOP name for it. Live with it you sons of bitches! This isn't a slang or popular term for your "strategy" it was the damn name you were all proud to repeat and repeat and repeat. You know you meant *Confederate Strategy* as you played with every so-called "heritage" group and "council" you guys could get into an Elks Hall or a Baptist church from about 1948 onward.

I'm waiting for the TV commercials with the violins, soft focus and smooth narrator saying: "Come home to the party of Lincoln...."

Will you find another dozen or so African Americans *dumb* enough or careerist enough to fall for this? Yep, and they can live the same tortured lives that your idiot "Log Cabin Republicans" do now. The latter do it for greed what the excuse is for the six or so Black people who are in the party since that Bob Jones U/South Carolina strategy of "McCain's got a little black child!!! Oh mercy!" will be a mystery to me until I die.

(sometimes having a phd in US political history isn't a *good* thing---I read things like this and my blood pressure shoots to the moon.)

darrelplant said...

prof, he did say "mistake". my blog post has a link to the npr story from this morning.

And, of course, there was nothing about "reaching out" to African-Americans in the "Southern Strategy" (or SS, as I like to call it), it was all about reaching out to the racists who were angry about desegregation and civil rights.

Anonymous said...

Darrelplant:
Amen. I like to call it the "Confederate Strategy" as I mentioned above but a facistic SS designation will do as well. Both systems (Southern Strategy and the Nazi thugs) tried to appeal to the worst in their respective populations---scapegoating and bigotry.

And, since the meme of the day was that the GOP really really wants to up that minority enrollment I decided to hunt up my most bigoted Jebus-lovin' neighbor. The sort of guy the SS was created for and the sort who will still love old "Dubya" (as he picturesquely calls him) if he strangles puppies on TV. First, my old boy here doesn't believe it---"just trying to get votes, nothing' wrong with that!" but, when pressed, should the GOP suddenly find itself softening on "affirmative action" and "stuff like that" well then my gun-totin'-God-fearin'-GOP-votin' neighbor well...he isn't happy with that scenario.

Thus, driftglass' dead on analysis of this idiotic campaign....BTW, I'll look forward to someone asking if it is "troubling" that 95%+ of certain Christian denominations vote GOP. Since it troubles Mehlman and my idiot talk radio zealot locally that Black affliation with the Democratic Party is in the 90s, I'm going to assume that they don't find this skew by fundies "healthy" either.

I'll be holding my breath waiting for that question to be answered somewhere by someone...

I've noticed over the years that the worst oppressors tend to come from one's own tribe. Look at the insane fury that the neocons display towards leftist Jews, for instance.

The whole "Focus on Faggots" of the Republicans and the White House has been deeply suspect from day one because it feels so much like something Evil Closet Queens would cook up. Ken Mehlman, Karl Rove, Scott McLellan, they all read as secret cocksuckers to me (a non-secret cocksucker). It's all very, very creepy.

darrelplant said...

prof, as I said in an email to drifty, i'm not convinced that melmac was doing anything other than putting on blackface and singing a sad song for the colored folk.

i'm fairly certain that -- given the speed with which he turned around and dismissed the seriousness of his party's historical pandering to racists -- the speech was just an attempt to shine up the GOP's image with African-Americans, based on the gamble that the speech would get a lot more coverage than his denial that the SS was any different from what happened in the rest of the country. In a way, he's right, of course, the Southern Strategy reached out to racists all across the country, not just in the South.

good call on that and the "blackface" comment. I'm thinking that you are definitely right---and that he is likely to be right as well: the speech will get more press than the "correction"

SF Mike: you left the most obvious candidate for that gang off your list---GWBush himself. There was a guy I used to know on Dem Underground who had this whole "the guy sets off my gaydar when he just shows up on TV" thing that was both hilarious and oddly convincing. Yep, find a self-hating "whatever," convince them that if they turn on anyone like them that they can be the token who is "different" and they'll go for it every time.

Drifty:

Another magnificent spewage of well-turned bile aimed with impeccable precision at those most deserving. However, I'm surprised that you didn't note that this obviously shallow reaching out (or reaching around, as it were) had as its impetus not any attempt to make amends as to marshall African-American voters back to the GOP (not that they were ever conservative zealots since, as you'd rightly pointed out, "they're not idiots.)" As GOP chair, it's Mehlman's job to try to keep his party in power as long as possible through fundraising, speechifying, marshalling swing votes, cocksucking and whatever else his pay grade might call for. However, it will be a while before African-Americans and we liberals forget about those sixteen Repugs who refused to sign on to Sen. Landrieu's apology to the surviving relatives of lynching victims.

Expect Mehlman to offer the reacharound of love and an olive branch to the Log Cabin Republicans and their liberal brethern, saying, in effect, "We were wrong to ever condemn you for stuffing your filthy cocks into your fellow man's anus and producing a frothy substance called Santorum. And speaking of whom, I'd like to introduce the Senator from Pennsylvania..."
