Four years ago, in the midst of the Obama presidency, I published a book called “The Road to Character.” American culture seemed to be in decent shape and my focus was on how individuals can deepen their inner lives. This week, in the midst of the Trump presidency, I’ve got another book, “The Second Mountain.” It’s become clear in the interim that things are not in good shape, that our problems are societal. The whole country is going through some sort of spiritual and emotional crisis.Heh
"It’s become clear in the interim that things are not in good shape..."You know, if 30 years behind a keyboard hacking out Conservative tripe has proven anything, it is that Mr. Brooks does not have the slightest fucking clue how to deepen your inner life, or what the root of our national crisis is, or how to fix it. But I have to admit, watching this marketing strategy of "Buy my new book because my last book was nonsense written about a country which I fundamentally do not understand but have been profitably lying to you dullards about for 30 years" unfold is a helluva thing.

Would you believe he says that in the introduction? Kinda...it's more like a the last book was good, but incomplete kinda thing.
Anyway, I have my copy. Guess I gotta read it now.

Hellsbells Fucking brooks showed up on Andreeck Mitchell today and boy howdy (h/t Charles Pierce) if you get the tape he fckin lynches himself. Andreeck didn't seem enthused to have him book-pumping on her time. But they went out in agreement that they are both still looking for a soul inside.
