Not following sports is a good thing.
Here is a nice video on Chomsky's views on sports.

BTW, The football club is not Manchester University. It is Manchester United.

Another great show, learned something too:

"The Myrmidons of Greek myth were known for their skill in battle and loyalty to their leaders. In pre-industrial Europe the word "myrmidon" carried many of the same connotations that "minion" does today.

Good afternoon, Mr. Glass.

They're making "12 Monkeys" into a TV show...

Not sure how I feel about this.

Enjoy your weekend.

Somebody at Tiger Beat on the Potomac either fell asleep at the wheel or was shocked into waking up all the way:

If enough of the right people pay enough attention and take enough action, Western Civ may just manage a landing we can walk away from. A thin reed to hang your hat on, I know, but it's all we've got.

Quiggin on Yglesias on Douthat (is that like Tinkers to Evers to Dunce?)

The best way to understand Douthat’s piece is by reverse engineering his argument as a constrained minimization problem The objective is to minimize the craziness he needs to embrace, subject to the constraint that he must end up in line with the denialist conspiracy theorists who dominate the base. The best approach is to combine the most inflated estimates of the cost of mitigation, with the rosiest projections of the implications of doing nothing.

This is “reform conservatism” in a nutshell.
